"We visited Random hall three days ago to try out dinner we had never been before and live locally, however after our experience at random hall we will never visit again. Firstly when we called to make a reservation we spoke with a women who knows broken english and gives the general impression that she could'nt care less if we had dinner at her establishment or mc donalds. Her poor discourteous telephone manner and lazy attitude was sadly confirmed on visiting what appeared to be a tired restaurant. She showed us the table and sat us down. My salad that i ordered had a hair in it which was a rather unpleasant surprise. The main course was duck to follow which was nothing special overpriced and no where near the price we were asked to pay when I could cook better at home and believe me when i say i am no michelin starred chef! The beer i ordered was in a glass that tasted of neat detergent so i had to transfer it to another glass. Also strangly the bread and butter turned up after the starter which seems a strange way of doing things ! We were then told to pay cash for the food as they had no internet and the machines had stopped working i explained we planned to pay by card and was given a piece of paper and told to write down my card details which i refused to do. This was met with much disgust from the waitress the same lady who answers the phone takes orders and seats people in the restaurant ! Perhaps she cooks the food as well ?? No wonder she seemed unhappy. We were then reffered to the manager nigel who seemed fairly reasonable and by contrast to his rude staff seemed like quite a decent bloke. We agreed they would call us the next day for payment however this was not before the suggestion that we drop cash off to them the following day much to our disbelief!!!! I would not recommend this place nigel is a nice enough chap but everything else does not represent paying money for on any level. I also felt sick and had a stomach ache the next day who knows what that was?? Safe to say we will never return ....."

There is a nicely balanced menu for dinner. Not normally a steak lover but I chose the rib-eye with chunky fries. Cooked to perfection and with a glass of Pinot Grigio...a perfect way to finish the day.

We were taken here today by a couple of our good friends who had noticed the venue when driving past last month. Friendly service with good sized portions of tasty food. No undue rush which was a nice change indeed. Would certainly go again.

I was staying at a nearby location when I was advised to dine at this restaurant. The food was excellent and beautifully presented. The staff member was outstanding, providing a very warm welcome and offering suggestions for local beers and activities in the area. It was a lovely experience overall.

We didn't stay at the hotel but ate in the restaurant one evening. The food was first class nicely served. My husband had the braised blade of beef which he said melted in the mouth I had the sea bass, which was cooked to perfection. The hotel is a popular venue for weddings on being given a tour by the friendly welcoming owners, we can see why. Would certainly recommend regard a bill of £71 for 2 lovely courses each, 2 large beers, 2 vodka tonics plus coffees as extremely good value. View menu

Lovely venue for a wedding. Good food, great service although the bar service could be a little faster and training in people skills would help too (we repeated our polite request for a drink only to be told to 'calm down ' would help if they had listened to us in the first place). Their till didn 't help either as they needed to keep restarting it which only added to the frustration for those waiting in the queue. That aside, it 's a really good venue which created a lovely atmosphere.

I attended an anniversary function here a couple of weekends ago. The venue was beautiful, and very comfortable for the 50 or so people who attended. It was great to be able to enjoy the garden, and to have enough space to chat and move around indoors. The food was absolutely delicious and very well presented, and the service was great! We spent a wonderful afternoon celebrating with friends and will gladly return to the restaurant in the future. I would highly recommend this venue for a celebration party.

I was away with work on business and staying at the next door B&B (also amazing). They recommended I come down here for dinner and I wasn't disappointed. As a woman dining alone due to staying over for work, I am always filled with nerves and discomfort at eating alone. However from the moment I walked onto the premises I was greeted with a smile and polite conversation in the car park by a staff member running an errand and then the same by the waitresses. I was made to feel completely at ease and the food was incredible too. Would 100% recommend this resturant View menu

We came To Random Hall for my mother 's birthday for afternoon tea. The china tea cups were dirty and my mother 's cup had dried rice stuck in the bottom of it. We didn 't complain about the crockery at the time as the tea itself was poor. The scones were prepared with an artificial cream and smear of jam. The selection of cakes were all chocolate cupcakes just with different toppings .... a raspberry, a strawberry and one with just icing sugar. My father doesn 't eat chocolate and so when I asked the waitress for a selection of cakes rather than just chocolate cupcakes she said that the chef had only made chocolate that day due to a wedding and the bride had requested this. I explained that...

My review of Random Hall is positive and well deserved. Jackie provided, exactly, the planned function we had agreed on at our initial meeting. It was to cater for 15 adults and 5 children, with a midday lunch to celebrate a significant birthday milestone. It all went extremely well and the food was delicious and well presented. From the pre-dinner drinks to the coffee post meal, we were looked after very well by Jackie and her assistant who doubled up as bar-maid/waitress. Although we never saw the chef, his presentations were excellent and very well enjoyed by all our guests who were impressed with the venue and the service provided. Were we just lucky on the day to receive the welcome we...

"My mother and I had been following the Masterchef Pro comp ' last year and were really keen to sample some of the winner, Tom Hamblet 's, food. We travelled a 4 hour round trip for the experience. We don 't eat at fine dining restaurants often but we are foodies. Firstly, the setting of the restaurant is very lavish and comfortable with warm low lighting. That said, the dinner experience was a little too dark for my mother so that 's something to think about if you struggle with eyesight and low lighting. The service was friendly, attentive and speedy/efficient. The food: I 'll start with the dessert because that was a real pleasure for us. We both loved the flavours of Tom 's end of series winning dessert so the meal ended on a high (we ordered the Olive Oil sponge with lemon curd). I recommend not ruining your palette with the overly sweet petit four that are placed in front of you following dessert unfortunately ours were more sugar flavoured than any other identifiable flavour. Our starters and mains were very VERY underwhelming. They arrived looking beautiful, neat and tidy but failed to deliver on taste. I had wanted the celeriac themed starter but the waiting staff told me the vegan/veggie starters and mains were created by their head chef and not Tom. That was disappointing as his 3 month residency was the reason we 'd visited the restaurant. We ended up both having the lobster starters after the waiting staff recommended it highly as either a starter or an additional dish to share. The claw meat was minimal and tough and the foam mousse took centre stage on the plate. Whilst the plate had lots of textures to it, we felt it was unbalanced and generally with no 'wow ' to it. We enjoyed the coffee and rye bread with butter and pollen/fennel that came prior to this thought. I ordered the Guinea Fowl as a main after the waiter described it as a gamey, dark and tender meat. I feel like a better description to someone that hasn 't had guinea fowl before would be 'it 's like a chicken breast with a different flavour '. This is what arrived in front of me and I actually found it was quite dry and not dark at all! I would never have ordered anything that resembled chicken breast anyway so I felt ill informed about my choice. I also thought the girolles were overwhelmingly tart. I didn 't enjoy my main. Mum 's Hogget was nice but average for her too. Last comment I 've never in my life paid £6.50 for less than 1.5ltrs mineral water beware! I don 't care how much money you have it 's water!!!"
