"During our twelve day stay in Berlin, we splurged on two higher end recommended restaurants. Richard, like many such establishments, has what one might expect: a beautifully appointed interior, rather quirky but interesting art, impeccable, tasteful service, and very creatively presented dishes. In contrast to the Rutz wine bar, we found the flavours here to be more distinctive and interesting--all of the dishes we sampled were not just beautifully presented but indeed, very tasty as well. All in all, we enjoyed our experience at Richard and it was a lovely choice for the last night of our twelve day vacation in Berlin.A few little quibbles: The menu is small, requires a fair amount of explanation (at least it did for us), and there are no options to order 'a la carte'. Diners have the choice to order a number of courses--four, five, six, etc. As is to be expected in restaurants of this nature, the portion sizes are certainly not hearty. My husband complained, as an example, that his ravioli dish contained exactly that -- ONE ravioli. So although we both chose the four course menu with a dessert to share, we left feeling sufficiently satisfied only because both of us partook of a fair amount of the delicious bread to fill in the gaps in the quantity. Similarly, they are really quite scanty in their definition of a glass of wine, completely unlike, for example, our experiences in Spain. Lastly, although the restaurant does have a lovely Romantic ambiance, I found the tables to be in too close proximity to each other. And, it is expensive. Total bill was 210 Euros for the four course menu each, a dessert, and three glasses of wine. This is decidedly more expensive than what we would pay in a similar type restaurant back home in Canada."
