"I agree with the previous contribution that the royal oak is a beautiful place to be on a sunny day next to the canal. my wife and I were pleased to have her sweet potato, cheek-pear and spinat curry was vegan and we both ordered this. I think, however, the cook has forgotten the choir because to say that this would be a blanching one. the texture was thin and very tomato flavored, there were actually a few lump sweet potatoes, a few cherry pebbles and a little spinat, but little curry aroma. as suppe it would have been good and we would like to have paid 6,00 for this with something nice brot, but as curry it was disappointing and safe overpriced. update: we went this year 2021 in the hope that the vegan food had improved, it is a nice environment, but was said that the falafel burger was not vegan as it had milk in it. my wife used again for the sweet potato,- kicherbsen and spinach curry and it was much better from our previous visit, but instead of brot it came with a nan that was not vegan and the salat was covered in a non vegan dressing. we had made it clear that we were strict vegans I had a bowl of chips! as in the sixties to be back! disappoint! updated by the previous review on 2020 09 16 of the previous review updated on 2021 06 08"

The Royal Oak was upgraded some considerable years ago from a bog standard pub to become a firm favourite of mine! It's well situated with its garden by the canal and, although the menu is generally quite short, the food it serves is always very good and excellent value for money. I highly recommend a visit!

The Royal Oak in Wales is a wonderful place to visit on a sunny day, especially if you've arrived by the Brec Mon canal and are in need of a refreshing pint. They offer a vegan curry dish on the menu, as well as specials like the felafel burger with chips and salad. I enjoyed a Welsh Pale ale from the Glamorgan Brewing Company, which was superb. I would definitely return for another pint of that.

that was a piece of heaven. beautiful small pub to foot from our campsite. beautiful friendly owners and employees. especially the food was delicious! we went two nights in a row. my brother had both pie. welsh venison burger is definitiw must. the pub garden goes back to the canal and is beautifully held. there is also access to the canal footpath if you have the pleasure to train an appetit before dinner.

the royal oak is located on the side of the canal, it has a beer garden that returns to the canal and can also eat in doors. due to the Kovid restrictions, it is best to make calls and book a reservation when there are many of them going. we had a party of 8, six adult and two children and we were able to sit close to each other. the staff was great with the children and eating was very nice. would recommend.

A friendly welcome, clean and well kept pub and beer garden. The beer garden looks onto the canal which is lovely. Kids meals aren't cheap at £6.50 no pudding) but are home cooked and fresh and tasty. Food was nice, we only had kids meals and some chips £3.50 per potion). Drinks are reasonably priced, nice cider on tap. Clean toilets and the inside seating looked nice and spacious. We sat in the beer garden where there were plenty of benches all spaced out.

we went today on the way to home from a beautiful day in brecon. from the booking of the meal to the arrival they were more than helpful. we needed to change it as we forgot to add 2 people we have forgotten to book, they were more than happy to care for us. it was a beautiful country pub, nice and quiet. the meal was amazing and tasty, not like the normal müll they find in chain restaurants. they went back and forth to make sure we had everything we needed from the beginning. would definitely be visiting with the family again!

We decided to give the restaurant another chance in 2021, hoping that the vegan options had improved. Unfortunately, we were told that the falafel burger wasn't vegan due to the inclusion of milk. My wife ordered the sweet potato, chickpea, and spinach curry again, which had improved since our last visit. However, it was served with non-vegan naan and the salad had a non-vegan dressing. Despite clearly stating that we were strict vegans, we were left disappointed. In the end, I had to settle for a bowl of chips. It felt like we had gone back to the 1960s. Overall, our dining experience was disappointing.
