"From the outside it looked quirky and reasonable. Prices seemed on the high side but not unsurprising in a tourist area. The disappointment came when I received my £6.50 toastie (extra topping added) as it was grossly below expectations for the price. It was 2 white slices from a sliced loaf toasted and with extremely scant filling. If I had seen what was on offer beforehand I would have thought £3.50 would have been about right. Alternatively, to substantiate the price asked, the cafe should consider higher quality bread, a decent amount of filling or even a club sandwich approach. When asked by one of the servers, I told him honestly that I was disappointed by what we had gotten for our money however I only received a ‘blank stare’ in response. I could hear that he conveyed my message to those in the kitchen but nothing further came of it. I was happy that at least I gave them the chance to engage with me before writing this review. I suppose being in a tourist town they feel that they do not need to rely on repeat business and so they do not need to keep passing tourist trade happy."

Lovely little family run cafe with excellent home made soups, sandwiches, cakes and snacks. Very friendly with additional tables outside. Really glad we found this little oasis.

A charming and relaxed atmosphere perfect for enjoying a coffee or tea, with a great variety of cakes and scones. This restaurant is dog-friendly, which is a bonus. I ordered a cheese scone and it was served with a small pot of grated cheese, a lovely added touch. It tasted delicious!

We received a warm welcome at this lovely cafe. My partner and I enjoyed jacket potatoes with tuna and coronation chicken fillings, accompanied by a side salad and an orange slice. We also had a cappuccino and a pot of tea. The cafe had ample seating both indoors and outdoors. We will definitely be returning in the future.

My husband and both mothers visited the restaurant today (Monday, 9/10) on a beautiful day, but decided to sit indoors. One of them was fascinated by the many teapots on display. We all enjoyed drinks with caramel shortbread and a piece of tea loaf, which were absolutely delicious and reasonably priced. The restaurant is tucked away off the main street.

Lovely little place for food and a chin wag. Called in on a shocking day for weather. Got a warm welcome, an excellent coffee and a cake. Been here once before for lunch earlier in the year and had an excellent lunch. All the cakes looked superb. Really warm friendly service with excellent food. I recommend this place most highly. They deserve our support.

I'm not a great lover of hot chocolate but for some reason just fancied one. This has to be the best I've tasted. Really nice and quaint coffee shop. We were heading to High Force and upon speaking to the owner he gave us advice on where to park. We took his advice and a great walk along the river via Low Force and on to High Force. If ever in the vicinity would definitely be calling in here again.

Came across Rumours whilst walking with our Sheltie whilst in the area on holiday. Impressed by the friendly welcome and seating outside under umbrellas. Good range of tasty meals and snacks and we selected Pate salad with toast and pickle, and homemade cream of veg soup with toast plus two pots of tea. Food was generous portions, tasty and well presented In all excellent value at £12.90, definitely one to visit again thank you all

We just dropped in whilst on a walk. We had no expectations about what they might have to offer. We had soup and a toastie; carrot coriander and tomato basil. Both were delicious, they were obviously home made and very hot and of thick consistency. Taken with the cheese and onion toasties they were a meal. Superb! I followed mine with a slice of coffee walnut cake with a capuchins. Again delicious. The service was excellent, as was the location. Rumours is without doubt worth a visit. Excellent thanks.
