"We visited the Scala restaurant as we had a voucher for a four course romantic dinner. Having called ahead to reserve a window seat (a must, for the view), we were pleased to see, upon arrival, that we did indeed have the last available window side table. We were greeted by friendly staff who proceeded to explain the menu, as well as provide us with our prosecco aperitif. The compliments of the chef was delicious, as was the selection of breads and butters/spreads. The evening continued as it had begun, with great attention being paid to our needs, making sure we were well looked after. The seasonal asparagus soup was simply divine, the highlight of our evening. The main course, Iberico fillet with some strange cheese topping, reminiscent of a Cheeto, was, admittedly, rather surprising, but entirely edible. The risk with such experiments is that they may not please everyone, as may be the case with this dish with other diners, but I can appreciate the effort put in to try and discover new classics. I found the dish overall to be quite tasty, though would not order it again, had I the choice. My partner's fish dish, however, was truly top notch. Finally, the dessert, banana in three styles, was served, and this once again stood out as a top dish. The wine recommendations provided by the waiter were very good (and not the most expensive). After the meal, we had a stroll around the top of the tower, taking in the splendid views of Jena and surroundings, which was a great way to cap off a fine evening with great food and top service. This was my third visit here, and both previous occasions were equally remarkable. This is clearly the best restaurant in Jena (though with a price tag to match, of course)."

I was curious to try this place, and after trying it I was so impressed. My favorite dish was the parmesan soup

Stop here for a lunch break (daily menu at affordable price). The food is very good and tasty, with emphasis on nice presentation. Do not forget to make a reservation (ask for a window seat in order to enjoy the view over Jena).

A fantastic view! And a great place to have a 75th anniversary dinner! The menu had an asian touch blended into the local style of Thüringen. Very well arranged and prepared! We very much enjoyed the locally sourced red wine from Mr. Proppe!

Wonderful views and superb food. A la carte with nuvelle quisine courses. Excellent choices of wine. The staff were attentive and friendly, topping up our glasses regularly. Above average prices but worth it with the quality and atmosphere. I recommend a visit when in Jena. View menu

We've booked a table for 4 persons to celebrate a wedding day two weeks in advance. The online confirmation was also received. Upon arrival that day at the entrance they said they didn't have a table because of some big group event even though they saw the confirmation email (where we specifically mentioned the occasion). No apologies, absolutely nothing. They could at least inform us of cancellation in advance. Absolute disaster!

Went to dinner with business colleagues. I was glad someone else knew how to get there - the switch in elevators, then up and down stairs was quite confusing. It was a weeknight so there weren't many diners. The weather wasn't perfect but even in the dark I could tell the view could be well worth the climb. The food was good - not spectacular but good...and the price seemed better correlated with the view than the quality of food. The service was good. The view gets 4 or 5 stars the food three so I would give it 3 1/2 stars if I could...

The restaurant is Jena's equivalent to Seattle's SkyCity restaurant, albeit all the good stuff. Possibly the only real fine dining place in Jena, usually flanked by the businessmen types. The place is very up class and the prices are exorbitant. The food doesn't match up at all to the hype. The presentation is certainly what you would expect at a gourmet place but the taste is absolutely mediocre. I would suggest that you give this place a skip. Pay 3€ to take the elevator to the Observation deck, enjoy a splendid view of Jena and the surroundings, and then head to Wagnergasse for much better gastronomical offerings. View menu

Not that there is anything wrong with German fayre ;-)I ate here with business colleagues and I have to say I really enjoyed it as it was my kind of food. I would say do not visit if you are a 'meat and two veg' kind of person. This is fine dining akin to Michelin standard. The food was beautifully cooked, well presented and tasted lovely.OK, so it's not cheap and the service didn't really match the food. It wasn't bad, just didn't get the 'feel' from it.This is the kind of restaurant I would plump for in the UK so it was nice to have something like this on offer in what is usually a hearty food country. The view from the tower is lovely, the town and beyond was completely lit up by the time...

We went to the Scala restaurant as it was part of a Jena package we bought. It was my first time on the tower and in the restaurant. We had a three course dinner, with accompanying wines. Every course was really delicous and thoughtfully worked out. The chef managed to diversify the foods and to still transition rather well from one course to the next.We let the head waiter, who was very good at what he did, choose the best wines for each course - which was a good idea. Everything fitted well together. At before the first course we got appetizers, which were good. It was a threeway of bread and bread spread. This could have been better, the bread should have been warm, as should have the olive...
