"If you happen to walk along Landungsbrücken and the charming port area of Hamburg which overlooks the River Elbe, you'd better take your customs elsewhere. Unless, of course, you enjoy parting way with a load of money in return for one of the sloppiest and unfriendliest services ever known to man.To start with, you walk in and you're made to feel like you've just landed on the setting of The Wicker Man or any kind of 1970s horror, given the frowning looks of suspicion the staff will give you as you walk through the door, no matter how much smiling and greeting you offer. And that's after they acknoweledge you, which, mark my words, may actually take a while even though they have clocked that you're there quite a few times. It really it's as if the most basic concepts of "customer service" (or shall I say manners, actually) had never entered the staff's minds at Störtebeker. I'm actually starting to think that if you have to wait any longer than a minute to receive a "good evening" or even a simple nod as you walk into a restaurant, you're probably in for a disappointing night service-wise. On the night we were there, I was actually wondering if the restaurant owners were actually running an exercise in how to make sure that people won't come back. You won't know the meanng of being made to feel "ill at ease" until you sample the ignorance, coldness and aloofness on display at Störtebeker. The service consists in wacking your dishes on the table when they're ready and that's it. You won't see the waiters again. They won't check if you need anything, bread, condiments, drinks, you name it. Even when you ask for the bill at the end, you're made to feel like you're inconveniencing them like nothing else.Which begs the next point, the food. I'm all up for spartan food and no frills (read my other reviews if you have nothing better to do). But this takes the biscuit, especially given the prices they charge. €25 Euros, for instance, for something marketed as "Large assortment of grilled North Sea fish", which will consist of three pieces of fish, a leaf of lettuce, three or four rickety pieces of boiled potatoes and a knob of butter the size of a baked bean. No dips, no sauces, no bread, no nothing. And thank god I ordered it just for myself, because when people read words like "large platter" or "large assortment" (especially when it's priced at €25) they often order it for sharing,My partner ordered "Baked Potato with Salmon salad". For the price of €8-10, it consisted of a barely warm baked potato served with a salmon mousse slapped next to it and a sprinkle of parsley. And that's it. It would have been expensive if it had been half the price. Needless to say, we refrained from ordering desserts as -coming at 5 quid a piece- they were probably going to be the size of button mushroom. And in any case, even if we'd wanted to, it's not as if the staff were at hand to make eye contact or ask for any help. You will be amazed by how slippery, literally, the staff are.We have now learnt that the so-called Hafen area of Hamburg (Landungsbrücken, St. Pauli, Altona etc) is brimming with restaurants and especially fish ones. Next time we won't inconvenience the people at Störtebeker by spending €50 at their place. We'll simply try somewhere else. Unless you fancy having your evening ruined, you'd better do the same, and that's my heartfelt recommendation."

No Stoertebeker beer is offered despite the name. Slightly cheaper than other places and it matches what you get for the price. There is a nice view to the harbour.

We visited this restaurant during our walk along the Elba. We requested fish soup which was quite good but very small portion. Too short visit to give more extensive reviews. View menu

Delicious seafood dinner near the harbour Located near the rambunctious red light district of St Pauli Brief menu but with solidly reliable pickings Fish; catch of the day, fresh Shrimps; well grilled prawns of sizeable mass Squid of good size, tasty but slightly chewy Beck’s to down the grub with Mind the late night revellers from elsewhere spilling out into the streets

Makes a rather inconspicuous impression from the outside. Have visited the restaurant due to the good reviews and were definitely not disappointed. The fish plate for 2 people was super tasty and sufficient. It is also highly recommended to use the Panfish with roast potatoes. Price/performance very good. You can definitely recommend the location. Very nice staff. Come back.

I ate lunch there recently when down taking a harbour tour like thousands of other tourists in Hamburg. I had fish fillets on potatoes and the meal was delicious. It was a very Hamburg style dish so that was appreciated. The view of the river harbour was excellent as well. Only one other table for lunch. Despite the lack of clients, the server didn't appear to want to interact. Disappointing, but in German restaurants pretty much the norm. View menu

I stopped by here for lunch on my last visit to Hamburg, and I will have to add the Stoertebeker to my must visit places for the future. What a great place to sit and enjoy the view and goings on at the port. Plus, talk about good seafood, I have missed seafood prepared the Hamburg way and this place just took care of my desires. The "Stoertebeker Fischplatte" was just exceptional. Plenty food, and absolutely tasty, just the way I rememberd from me growing up in Hamburg so many years ago. It was a small struggle to finish my meal, especially after having that fantastic smoked eel appetizer, but such good food was not going to waste. The restaurant was very clean, and the wait staff was atten...

My husband and I don't usually take bus tours when we travel, we like to explore the cities on bike or foot, however it was so cold and off/on raining that we decided to give the bus a try. So the guide on our tour suggested this place for good seafood. We actually took the subway back for dinner. It was just a short walk to the subway station. We did pass a restaurant that was PACKED on the way here, but it gave us a feeling of a chain type restaurant so we decided to keep with our original plan of eating here. When we walked in, IT WAS DEAD! there was one couple eating and that was it. The waiter was not exactly warm and cuddly, but did seat us immediately and took our order immediately. W...

"There's always a question (in my mind, anyway) as to Michelin's accuracy/usefulness outside of France. In the US, it's not very helpful at all and in Europe ex-France, I've found it hit and miss. Haerlin represented only my second stab at a two-star in Germany and the first meal (Heinz Winkler), while a thoroughly wonderful overall experience, felt like the second star might have been a stretch. Not so at Haerlin, this was a two-star meal that stands fork-to-fork with any I can remember. The food is stylized to within an inch of its life, but close to flawless in both conception and execution. Outside of a large selection of generally unremarkable breads and a luke-warm roasted onion broth added to an amuse at table side that probably should have been hotter, the meal was simply one perfect dish after another. Maybe the sorbet intermezzo was a little old school in such a fashion forward meal, but - hey - it was delicious! Keep it.The room is suitably formal, luxurious in a traditional style, and quite comfortable. The pace of service might be a little leisurely for some (I ate alone and the four-course menu (seven + courses, including amuses, etc) pushed it a bit, stretching just over three hours. However, the friendly and attentive staff kept an eye out the entire time and stopped by if the time between courses presented the opportunity. The somm, in particular, was a great diversion, visiting from time to time to discuss the varied and interesting wines on offer. He provided useful insight into the outstanding selection of trocken Rieslings on the list. He guided me to a 2001 Burklin-Wolf GG that, at Eu 150, was both a great bottle of mature white and a tremendous value for a wine of this quality in this type of restaurant. (Good luck finding a white burgundy of this quality at this price at any multi-star restaurant - or at retail, for that matter.) He also suggested a wonderful German Pinot Noir by the glass that worked perfectly with the meat course and wasn't terribly expensive. The list is extensive, but not the tome you see at some restaurants, but don't be fooled - wine service at Haerlin is both a major plus and represents notable value in the context of multi-star restaurants.I'm not going to argue two-star vs three-star because that distinction often seems to be kind of mysterious (and tangentially related to the food), but I will say that this place certainly deserves two stars. I had just a flat-out great meal. If you can work in a visit, Haerlin should be high on your list."
