"Were looking for a light, late lunch after walking along Beachy Head and Birling Gap, and had seen the Beehive on Google Maps, so we decided to give it a try. Not disappointed. We both ordered our favorite English toasted sandwich, cheese and chutney. My wife's was served on regular white bread while I opted for the sesame and poppyseed roll. We sat outside, in the shade, and in just a few minutes, we were served by the very friendly staff. We enjoyed lunch and our sandwiches so much we purchased a jar of the chutney to bring home. Serves as a reminder of a wonderful, warm, sunny lunchtime in May in southern England."

The deli is my local cafe, and I couldn't be happier about it! Lovely friendly service, delicious coffee, perfect cheese scones and all this overlooking one of the best village greens in Britain.

The sandwich menu was limited, but the off the bone ham in the sandwiches ordered was thickly cut and very tasty. The tea was served with hot water to give several cups. All at a very reasonable price. The scones looked very tempting but I resisted. View menu

Staff were friendly and knowledgeable about Products. Bread, cakes were wrapped individually.A good selection of savoury pies to take a away and rolls filled to your preference. We had the best coffee plus cake all served with a smile! Everything is high quality

I visited this restaurant yesterday and today after the deli reopened. The food was delicious and the staff were very friendly. Definitely worth a visit. My only critique is that they should address the air conditioning issue, as the direct sunlight hitting the front of the building makes it very hot.

We visit this wonderful eatery on a regular basis and it has never failed to meet our expectations on every level, even during these very difficult times. Good quality food served by friendly and extremely helpful staff in a safe environment and beautiful setting. What is there not to love. We cannot believe the recent review by krusty the Clown. Perhaps the name says it all!!! Paul and Marilyn View menu

We ordered a couple of sandwiches, a pasty, and a toastie, and we were all impressed by how delicious they were. When we mentioned that we planned to eat them on the grassy area across the street, the staff kindly offered us a picnic rug to borrow. Despite being a small village, East Dean had several dining options, but we were glad we had chosen to visit the Deli on the Green. We will definitely be coming back!

I discovered a charming little gem just off the A259 to Eastbourne - The Beehive on the Green. This deli coffee shop offers all-day food and drinks with lovely service and quick service. I sat outside, enjoying the peaceful view of the green on a sunny Sunday afternoon. The shaded seating was perfect for summer. The prices were reasonable and the paninis were delicious. It's dog-friendly, which is a plus. The atmosphere was very welcoming and they also sell a variety of delicious Italian deli items. I highly recommend it.

"The last time I visited this restaurant was 6 years ago, it WAS a real hidden gem. When I walked in this evening nothing had changed and I was hoping the food would be just as good as I remembered. Service was slow which surprised us as it was a Sunday night and pretty empty. We were given some olives while we ordered (the nicest part of the meal unfortunately). My boyfriend ordered the garlic focaccia with caramelised onion; the bits that had cheese and onion on were very tasty but this was only about 30% of the focaccia, the rest of the bread was over cooked and bland. I ordered bruschetta which was completely underwhelming. 4 small pre sliced bits of stale bread, some chopped up soft tomato and pesto with rocket in the centre. I could have made this at home. For mains I ordered what I always used to have, linguine alla marinara. The portion of pasta was decent, however I only counted 6 pieces of seafood and one large prawn on the top. The menu states it also comes with tomato’s which there were none of. The flavour tasted like buttery pasta with a hint of garlic, again completely underwhelming. My boyfriend ordered spaghetti meatballs. A large portion but completely inedible as it was absolutely disgusting. The sauce tasted like pure tomato purée, so lumpy and stodgy and the meatballs were like nothing we had ever tasted, VILE. We decided to bring the rest of the portion home for my mum (a head chef) to try. We wanted to know what she thought the flavour was as we were confused as to how you can make a meatball taste so vulgar! She spat it out immediately saying it tasted like it had either been cooked in or made with rancid/old fat. The cherry on the top for us was when we asked for the bill. We were given the generic boiled sweets that come with it. 2 of the boiled sweets were in wrappers however there was a third that stuck them all together that was half chewed, out of it’s wrapper. The place was COVERED in cobwebs, decor completely outdated with many flashing lights, menu pages stuck together and stank, looked like they had many a drink spilt over them and not once changed. Don’t even get me started on the toilets! We cleaned our own cutlery it was so filthy and swapped side plates with an empty table next to us as ours had food still on them. Left feeling completely disappointed and are both now suffering with major trumps. Will not be returning again!"

"We had a voucher for a sparkling tea. Reassured by their website that pronounced their covid measurs were above government guidelines I allayed my 93 year olds Mums fear about going. We were able to sit outside which was of much covid reassurance to Mum...And all was well in this wonderful place which Mum pronounced to be 'the real macoy '...they even catered very impressively for my vegan diet...all was well until we paid in the reception lounge. Mum had thought we would not need to hand over our gift card as they had already got our details when we booked on the phone, but not so...she wore her mask, I was lulled into a false sense of security and destracted that Mums very poor hearing meant she had not heard and was about to walk out the door in her unstable on her feet way, as I handed the voucher over minus my mask to the unmasked young man. Mum observed no one in the lounge was wearing a mask, and the young man got very close to me. I do think this is indefensible. Today the government has changed their rules so today they would all have to be wearing their masks, but surely it 's good sense. On reflection I noted our two waitresses were walking pretty close to ' each other too. Most of the clientele seemed to be over 60...surely they have a duty of care. When i check trip advisor for much humbler eating places, alot have staff wearing masks before the government told them they must...WHY NOT HERE!? I did phone them today..I was told staff do get a temperature screen every day ...but that is only an indication. I was impressed they had hands free alcohol gel dispensers, they took our details, wiped our tables and others every hour and after someone has dined. Its a wonderful place which has let itself down."
