"We arrived for a family lunch to celebrate a birthday but left feeling we had visited Fawlty Towers. Ushered in to a bar with very few seats and a number of beers being unavailable we had a drink before heading in to the conservatory where our table was waiting. The waiter who greeted us was hardly able to raise a murmur of welcome and quickly handed out paper menus. No mention of menu options. I ordered wine and without checking it was poured out, it really could have been any bottle! Only when we had had our starters did we realise other diners had chosen different meals! Service was a shambles with plates left on the table as deserts were being served. It's a lovely hotel with great setting but the service is really really poor. Food, from the menu option we were offered, was adequate but nothing more. I complained at the time and although the hotel had our details from our booking and had called to confirm the booking no one was bothered to follow up. Shoody service needs to be addressed."

Large portions, tasty food, moderately priced. Well worth its ranking on Trip Advisor. The fish'n'chips was excellent.

Stayed for.one.nights bed and.breakfast in this beautifully restored pub. Many original features have been retained including the well. Breakfast was generous and the service was wonderful. We would certainly stay again. View menu

Having traveled from the West country, we were able to order a snack meal, even as the kitchen was closing. The evening meal was very good indeed, well prepared and presented, the staff are very attentive, without being intrusive, Highly recommended

This historic pub in Portsmouth is the second oldest in town and is definitely a standout. The breakfast was delicious and filling. The room is on the small side and has some issues with electricity and plumbing, but that's to be expected in a building that is 300 years old. The wifi connection is reliable. The staff are professional. I may not choose to stay here again, but I'm grateful for the experience.
