"4 people, 2 had the lunch menu and 2 a la carte. The quality and quantity is the same making the lunch menu spectacular value if there's something on it for you. The quality of the cooking and attention to detail is Michelin Star level. The food is faultless and the flavours are wow! The tables and chairs are not the most comfortable, everything is a bit of a tight squeeze. None of us are fat, but both blokes were over 6ft, with 2 svelte chicks. The food is so good, I'd like a more comfortable chair and a slighter bigger table. I don't think they realise how good their food is. Decor is very nice though and the service is always very attentive and friendly. Went because we always love the food and were celebrating a big event so I ordered a £60 bottle of Bordeaux, which was truly abysmal unfortunately. It wasn't corked either. Fantastic food, great service, incredible value (food)."

Dined here with my partner and his parents. It was recommended by a friend and it was wonderful. Great food and an even better Manhattan cocktail.

First time in The Porter, very welcoming and attentive staff.quality of the food was excellent particularly the crab starter. The duck breast was cooked and sliced to perfection accompanied by a lovely gratin dauphinois.A wide selection of delicious regional and french cheeses followed by an excellent vanilla ice cream served with baileys irish liquor. The service could not be faulted,we had pre ordered so serving was very efficient.A good range of wines to suit all tastes and budget.Nice to see a decent best bitter on offer.

We booked an afternoon tea in one of the private rooms here for a hen party in February. We arrived to a beautiful room, were free to arrive early and decorate it however we liked, play our own music, and were given excellent service throughout. The food was delicious, and the service was incredible, we were left to ourselves but checked on regularly for topping up drinks etc. The head waiter was, in particular, brilliant extremely personable and accommodating. It was the perfect way to end the hen party and we would highly recommend it. Thank you!

We were a party of eight. Service was excellent. Advise from the Maitre D' was good and well received. Food was delivered in good time and our drinks were replenished in good time too. We all had different dishes and everyone was positive about their meal. This was a Wednesday evening and I was surprised how busy it was, which speaks volumes for the place. When we were finished the Maitre D' even went to the trouble of booking us into a private area of a nearby club, to have a final drink. A nice touch and much appreciated. Would definitely go back. Beautiful little restaurant within walking distance of the abbey. Quality of the food and service is amazing Michelin star detail and quality without Michelin star prices. Very interesting range on the menu and waiter was happy to discuss our choices and make recommendations according to our discussion. Décor is lovely. Not a huge number of covers so it feels very personal and intimate. Not a lot of space between tables where we were sat though had to squeeze through to get to my seat with the help of fellow diner who thoughtfully pulled next table away. Saying that, the tables are large enough that you don't actually feel hemmed in or squashed. Jazz trio were on the evening we visited which...

I like Bath; not just the architecture, or the landmarks or the sights, but the myriad of places to eat. So it's a bit disappointing when you recommend somewhere to meet up and enjoy lovely grub with friends and the place you nominate turns out to be a bit lacking... and this is what I thought of Clayton's Kitchen, I'm afraid. Nothing wrong with the quality of food, just not enough of it, and too many large boards and dishes to fit onto the table. I just don't understand that whole concept. Yes, one board for bread and olives or for cheese but for fish and chips? The plate was bigger than two settings so it was a scramble to get everything for all the diners in front of them! And don't start...
