"We were on a road trip around western Scotland and stopped in at Prince's House (without reservations) simply because we'd just visited Glenfinnan monument viaduct. We were immediately made to feel welcome by the floor manager, and shown into a beautiful wee dining room with a nice view of a babbling brook, then given a menu that was tantalizingly hard to choose from. My friend ordered the Grassingham duck (well done), and I ordered venison steak (medium) both with chips seasonal veg. The meal was delicious. The duck was succulent, the venison was served as three slim, pink in the middle, juicy flame grills, and the chips were chunky, fluffy and very moreish. The whisky honey glaze on the steaks was a delight, and the vegetables were done to perfection. We enjoyed the main (and the welcome, and the restaurant) so much that we decided to indulge in dessert. We were not disappointed. Warm, mouthwatering dark chocolate cake; moist apple crowdie sponge cake; and home made ice cream. I went with vanilla, my friend chose marmalade ice cream. It did indeed taste like marmalade but that made it a bit too bitter for her taste, but she was provided with a wee pot of honey to sweeten it with. We hadn't checked any reviews before pitching up on their doorstep, so we were pleasantly surprised by the whole experience and especially the food."
