"this is somewhere I've wanted to try for a long time, but as my husband doesn't eat seafood, for a long time there wasn't a lot on the menu that appealed. More recently, there has been more chicken, beef, veggie and vegan options, all of which he enjoys, so we decided this time we were giving it a go. it opens at 12, and we arrived more or less on the dot there. the decor is quirky and cosy, and very comfortable. loved the skull mirrorball in the bar alcove. we were easily able to get a table, but for the time of day on an off peak weekday, it soon got busier. it seems very popular. we were able to order quickly. and didn't have to wait too long for our food. I had the Gumbo, which is a favourite of mine, but not available as widely as you'd hope in many UK eateries. (I do make a very good one myself, but can't resist it) the portion was generous, with a good sized side of delicious rice and beans, which had a lovely spiciness to it, and a lovely, light almost brioche like cornbread, delicious for dipping in the rich, flavourful sauce. the gumbo comes with plenty of tender chicken, spiced sausage and king prawns. the flavours were lovely. not overly hot (not that I mind a hot gumbo) but had a lovely rich depth to the sauce, with all the different flavours mingling beautifully. fortunately, as I don't have the biggest appetite, they were happy to provide me with a container to take my leftovers home in, as it would be a tragedy to let it go to waste. I only have a smaller appetite, despite how much I LOVE food, so this way I get two fantastic meals out of it instead of just one. staff were very accommodating, the house lager was decent, and my husbands burger looked really nice too. on future visits I'd love to try out some of the cocktails, but it was a little early in the day for that sort of thing for me. great atmosphere. fun decor. delicious food. quick and accommodating service. can't fault it. the prices tend to be a little higher than we would normally pay on a meal out, but you definitely get your moneys worth, so it's perfect as a bit of a special treat. the only downside I can see is that it is up a stone staircase, so will not be accessible to everyone. but for those that can visit, it's definitely worth it. part of me wants to work my way through the entire seafood menu, and part of me wants to just keep going back for that delicious gumbo."

What a fabulous place to view St Ives and eat great food in a casual, relaxed atmosphere. If you like rum, then the Dead Man's Finger selection is 2nd to none. Generous servings. Tasty food. Highly recommended. Thank you!

I am a huge fan of Dead Man’s Finger rum so naturally going to the Rum and Crab Shack has been on the top of my bucket list for a long time. The food was honestly amazing, we had the Rum Ribs and Burger, so tasty! We had a few rounds of cocktails, they went down an absolute treat. Followed by the Stargazy Affogato. Highly recommend visiting here if you’re going to St Ives

Turned up for a table (advised no bookings on their website and tried to call five times over the past two days with no answer So we turned up to check and were asked if we’d booked?! Then told without a booking we couldn’t get a table for over an hour. Being told to wait in a first come first serve setting is fine but this takes the biscuit. If we’d have just been told there was a wait fine but why have bookings (of small tables too!!! when your site says no?

We turned up tonight as they advertised both crab and lobster on the menu. Despite being quiet, the service was non existent and gave up and had puddings elsewhere. We complained and didn’t pay for the service either. We had to ask for drinks and the pudding menu, neither of which ever made it. The food was average at best. The crab was poorly presented considering the price. If this is what it is like in low season I dread to think what it’s like in august. Try elsewhere there is better

I can’t honestly review the food as we never ate here, however, it was and shall continue to be an important spot for us when holidaying in St Ives. There were nights when me my husband (both in our mid 40s) wanted to let our hair down, have a few cocktails, enjoy an atmosphere that was eclectic and not just either full of the young and rowdy, or just packed with the purple rinse brigade (if you get me) and this place was it for us. Our son (11yr) loved sitting on the window seats watching the world go by outside whilst loving the groovy music that played whilst me and my husband loved this the same but with a multitude of delicious cocktails

We have been once before for drinks but were keen to try the food on our second visit and we weren't disappointed. *Eating* We were super impressed that they bake all their bread in house fresh, daily! This did mean that the bread board wasn't available but we were super happy to sub for the cheesy garlic bread which was delicious, we also shared the popcorn shrimp which were fantastic whatever sauce the serve it with was divine. For mains we had the crab linguine and burger. My husband has had many burgers and he was impressed with this one, adding pulled pork to round it off. My linguine was well seasoned and packed with chill delicious. The food came out promptly despite them being very b...

We planned to visit St Ives for the day last week, with hope to eat at The Rum Crab Shack having had the most wonderful experience a few years ago. With the dog in tow we wanted to check whether this would be feasible as their website gives no mention of dogs, however with knowledge of wooden floors, the bar area and how rare it is to not find a dog friendly restaurant on the Cornish coast, attempted to ring and check this out. Attempting to call twice on the Wednesday mid-afternoon and once on the Thursday early afternoon was fruitless as the phone rang out for a significant amount of time on all occasions. Taking our chances, I visited on the Thursday mid-afternoon to ask the question and...

"So let us share our experience, We went in tonight as a family after seeing that it home made food on the drive to sennen and looked online and had a good look at the food available on the menu also looking to see if it was dog friendly and it ticked all the boxes, Upon arrival me and my wife went in 1st to ask if we could have a table for food and if dogs can go inside and staff were a little unsure but they confirmed we could upon asking for a table for 7 but one in a pram he said we don’t have the availability to cater I was looking at a table big enough and eventually said that this table was available whilst being seated we had 2 table one clean and the 2nd just been finished with so needed a clean but he came and cleaned both tables and he squirted the cleaner on a clean table and the over spray bounced off the table and went over our selfs then we were handed a menu freshly printed A4 paper thrown on the table (WET TABLE) so they stuck to the table upon agreeing what we wanted we went to the bar within 2-3 mins of being seated we knew what we wanted and when we asked for the meal it was OUT OF STOCK (Sunday lunch) ok fair so as I was with a family member at the bar I quickly rushed back to the table to ask my daughter of an alternative she wasn’t happy, So I made a meal up of all the extras on the menu so I went back to the bar to find my family member ordered 2 fish and chips then I realised my wife also wanted Sunday lunch so I quickly rushed back to ask her what she wanted and went back to the bar just as my family member left and asked for fish and chips was also sold out also! 99% of the menu was SOLD OUT this should of been discussed upon arrival not as we were ordering I run and operate my own business and this isn’t how I would treat my customers this isn’t how an establishment should be ran! Even when I was standing trying to order a member of staff was standing there arm against the wall doing nothing while customers are standing waiting to be served! So we decided not to eat and my family member went back to the bar to ask for a refund as we couldn’t eat as a family and the staff were iffy about offering a refund but 10 minutes later they did refund my family member as it became a scene for other people as they could see what had happened! This establishment should be call the 1st and late time you come here! We ended up walking to the chip shop down the road for food we are very disappointed in this company and establishment! For anyone who wants to eat please make sure they HAVE STOCK how can this establishment run without stock? Never again tonight they lost over £200 revenue due to this situation!"
