"The place was lovely, very historic looking, the customers and the staff were very welcoming and friendly. The food was great and to top it off, some customers brought their dogs in! Bonus! Spent a lot of time chatting to people I've never met before and fussing dogs. I'd go back in a heartbeat. Loved the place, and the dogs, don't forget the dogs!"

We had the pork belly and the burger, both were fantastic and with generous portions. The service was brilliant and the atmosphere was really nice and cosy. View menu

Popped in for a meal and wasn't disappointed. The food was tasty with decent portion sizes, friendly service and a good selection of ales plus it's dog friendly so perfect for a post dog walk stop off.

Looking for a dog friendly pub that does food in the area and came across the ship inn. What a good choice was made to feel welcome with 3 dogs, nice and cozy, food was excellent and a good choice of real ale.

We had a very good supper here last night, Saturday. There was only one barman fun waiter but he did an excellent job making us very welcome. The food arrived quickly and was very good too. Home made ice creams, a real bonus. View menu

Had a pint and a cider. Local ale Greenood brewery very nice ,when in Rome. And met a lovely chap called Jim and when a I say chap he was actually a dog. Sat with me on the couch in front of log burner. Much easier to handle than the old bird.

Found this pub by chance on our way back to Newby Bridge. Lovely atmosphere, very pleasant staff and excellent food. Ordered the pork belly and the gammon,it was presented like restaurant quality food and tasted delicious. Will definitely recommend to friends and will return again when up this way.

"We were sure to book ahead for a table of 4 for 5.15 as it was a late Sunday roast we were fully aware that not everything would be available so it was no surprise when we were told that there was only gammon left for the roast option however there was still fish and chips homemade steak pie or vegetable lasagne. We happily opted for 3 gammon roast dinners and a homemade steak pie with mash (you get the choice of which potato you'd like) The food arrived piping hot with plenty of everything and it was so so tasty you could really tell everything was lovingly made from scratch for the roast the potatoes came both roasted and mashed with cauliflower, broccoli and carrot and swede mash. A generous helping of gammon and a large Yorkshire pudding with gravy that was clearly made with the juices as it was so flavourful. The steak pie was brilliant too homemade with large chunks of steak and a choice of potato and whether you'd like the same veg as that with the roast or with peas. This also came with gravy. For dessert there was a choice of either chocolate fudge cake, caramel apple pie or sticky toffee pudding and you had the choice of either cream, ice cream or custard. 2 of us got it with custard and 2 of us got it with ice cream and it wasn't overbearingly sweet it was perfect with a delicious caramel top! We all thoroughly enjoyed all the food and the drinks and service and will be back again one day if we find ourselves holidaying here again"
