"We took a taxi to this old fashioned restaurant on a cold night...there were no tourists or at least only Italian ones. An Italian friend ordered the famous local dish tortelli di zucca pasta stuffed with sweet pumpkin). Too sweet for me as a first course but perfectly done, agnolotti in brodo was a simple soup, agnoli al stracotto donkey) was excellent as was sorbir d’angoli soup with added red wine). Main of bolliti misti boiled beef, tongue, cotechino sausage and chicken) with salsa verde green sauce) and mostarda mantovana local fruit relish). Reportedly the best ever eaten. Main of stracotto con polenta was delicious. Not a place for vegetarians or the faint hearted and there is no fish on the menu. However the bean stew and mixed vegetables were a perfect foil. Best traditional food yet."

Ho amato il primo piatto di torte di zucca. e poi la taglierina di formaggio con la senape (ottimo). e la torta di elvezia. grande il lambrusco della casa. la pergola con il vecchio wisteria è bella

ottima trattoria con piatti tradizionali. provare le tagliatelle in brodo e la pasta stracotto (questo non si può perdere), l'ebollizione (eccezionale la senape) e la torta le rose. personale gentile e prezzo corretto. Razioni generose.

This is one of the best meals I have had in a long time. The coppa was outstanding and the tortellini di zucca were so delicious I wanted to another plate. One in our group had pasta with stracotta sauce and it was so flavorful nothing like it before. And don’t forget the dessert. Great prices too! View menu

Sempre un'esperienza appagante, pranzare in questa trattoria tipica mantovana.Pranzo con vera cucina casalinga, gusti forti, per appetiti golosi.Pasta fresca fatta in casa, bolliti con salsina verde e mostarda, brasato d'asino e tanto altro. Ottimi i dolci, buono il vino, proporzionato il prezzo finale.Servizio discreto e disponibile, a presto.

After trying some of the fancy new restaurants in town, and being disappointed by the new trends we had our last dinner in Mantova at the Trattoria due Cavallini. How refreshing being served honest traditional regional food, without pretenses, and with courteous professional service. We started with antipasti, including mortadella al tartufo and excellent prosciutto crudo. For main dish I had the pork shank which was enough for 2 really, and my friends had tortelli di zucca, stracotto di asino, and lingua (tongue! bollita. I tasted each dish and found them all delicious. I can't wait to go back to Mantova to eat again at this gem of a restaurant!
