"This family owned restaurant in the quiet little village of Castiglione d’Orcia is the location of culinary excellence. The friendly chef (a master of food preparation) produces food like an artist. The combination of flavors, smells, textures and visual presentation tantalize the senses from first bite to last. If you are like myself a spoiled American use to large quantities of average food put that behind you when you are here. Quantity is adequate and quality is not to be exceeded. This was our second meal here and we look forward to more before we head home. The chef loves children and his sole desire appears to be your satisfaction. He doesn’t speak much English but we managed very well. This is that special place we all look for but so rarely find."

Each time we are in Val D'Orcia we always stop here for lunch. A great restaurant in a beautiful setting in a beautiful Tuscan hilltop.

After an uphill hike, we found this trattoria hidden in this small hilltop town. The quality of food and service were excellent. The owner (chef) provided a great menu with local wine.

We have been very happy with the hospitality, simplicity and typical Tuscan food... do not miss the Pici all'aglione a local specialty cooked to perfection! A juicy thick spaghetto in a light garlic sauce which will light your meal)

We tried the house antipasti plate. The prosciutto, salami, cheese and melone were splended. For maincourse we tasted beef and pollo marinated in grappa. The grappa dominated pollo too much but the beef was okey. For child the pasta was littlebit too spicy. For dessert we had applepie and vanilla and chocolate icecream. One herb present in every main course and dessert: rosemary. So if you like rosemary, this is a prefect place for you.

Food is traditional to val d'Orcia, a stunning region in Tuscany. Also, food is just ex-cellent! Must go and eat here. Only thing is that it's run by a couple who couldn't be more different in the impression that they left on me. The man talks a lot and appears to be a bit controlling. The woman is quiet, almost depressed looking, but she's very kind. Don't let this put you off. Ultimately, they'll both be friendly. The food is worth it. The village is absolutely beautiful.

This was the most lovely find of our whole trip to Tuscany. We kept it simple given we were about to go on a hike but the pomodoro pasta we had was just sublime (and super fresh). We had the just made cake for dessert and a lovely wine and cafe as well. The man who runs this place is super nice and welcoming and did his best to teach us a bit more Italian (my husband is decent at it and still learning) and teach us the best ways to bake a cake! Wish we could have come here every day next time! PS. The restaurant is right in the middle of the historic part of town.

A tiny hidden gem, as others have noted: the owner is a great character, wonderful host, and the menu has enough variety to please anyone. The food is very good we loved the sliced steak with balsamic vinegar (really delicious even if it sounds odd) and the thick tomato soup, Papa al pomodoro, which was yummy even on a hot day. The grilled vegetables were marvelous. The shady terrace is cool and small enough to be cosy you might talk to other guests, or might not. The granita with mint and lime is an excellent refreshing dessert. Portions are very big you can share almost any dish. Their own wine was very nice and reasonably priced.
