"We went to the Wherry yesterday when in the area as Happy Cow reviews recommended and there’s little else to choose from around here. We enquired at the bar and the staff helpfully went to enquire in the kitchen about vegan options. We were offered a veggie tart or vegan burger/patty and we opted for the veggie tart. We waited 15 minutes for a table and spent a further 15 minutes queueing at the carvery. When we arrived to collect our veggie tart from the carvery we were told they had ordered the burger for us because THE VEGGIE TART HAS MILK IN THE PASTRY. I know it’s been recommended on here so I wanted to warn anyone going that the only vegan option is the burger which comes with a vegan gravy. The veg were nice (just avoid the mash both carrot swede and potato Yorkshire puddings, and the gravy they provide a vegan one) and the burger was more like a small slice of nut loaf. They do have a nut loaf which contains egg, so be sure you ask for the vegan burger. It was pretty depressing having to slowly walk past the meat at the cavery as the queue was very long and slow but it was Sunday and the place is clearly popular with meat eaters. There are no dessert options apart from plain fruit salad. I thought £10.95 for a small burger and some vegetables with gravy was quite a lot to pay, as we were charged the standard carvery price. I feel that vegans are never likely to be priority in a place like this. If you’re in the area and short on options, don’t mind spending a long time being in very close proximity to large amounts of meat, and are happy to have only one option to choose from, this is the place to go. We probably wouldn’t be going back anytime soon."
