"We went to Zizzi, Oxford for a late dinner after the cinema so it was pretty empty. We were able to sit down half an hour earlier than I had booked and got our drinks quite quickly. We ordered bread for our starter, which came promptly, and the waitress went to get the vinegar. No-one reappeared with any olive oil so we asked for some. The man we had asked wondered off, came back shrugged his shoulders, pointed at the vinegar and walked away again. I wondered for a second if I was going mad-I was pretty sure that wasn't the olive oil! Then I noticed some on the other tables so got some myself. The food came about minutes after the starter had arrived so we got it all in one go; not great but better than waiting for ages I suppose. I ordered a spaghetti dish but wasn't given a spoon to eat it with. I tried to get somebody's attention for a while but no-one was around so I found a cutlery draw on a nearby table (the one with all their colouring books for kids etc) and got one myself. A waitress did then come past and I asked for parmesan. She came back and grated half of it over me and promptly left again! Each time we were served or asked for anything it was a different person and all, bar one, were rude. The food was alright but nothing special and not worth the money. The service was so bad I actually wondered if it was supposed to be part of the charm'! Will not be going back again."

Zizzi’s were great, despite the fact that they never received the booking from Opentable.

We were there before our theatre show but ended up having leave after starters and not have mains as everything took so long. View menu

Four of us went for a pre-theatre meal on Friday evening along with everyone else who was going to Mama Mia at the New Theatre, or so it seemed It was incredibly busy and we were a little concerned that the service would be slow but, having informed our friendly waitress we were going to the theatre, we had enough time. Salads were particularly good. This restaurant is a good choice for a quick, pre-theatre meal as the theatre is just across the road.

An elderly couple were very disrespectful to my family. I have boys and The service was very slow and from taking our order, bringing starter, main meal, dessert menu and at last the bill. The old was getting restless in between and the elderly lady sat behind our table turned and said for F**K Sake. This was upsetting as I would have thought that the couple would understand that children can get restless. This spoilt the atmosphere and we did not enjoy our time there. The staff did nothing about this. Very disappointed!!! View menu

I’m usually very fond of Zizzi’s, but this restaurant was very disappointing. Having booked a table, we waited by the door for minutes before anyone had realised we’d arrived. We then waited minutes for our starters to arrive, I had to ask three waiters to check our order because the other two simply forgot. The food was tasty, but the service was appalling. I wouldn’t even give it one star. Our table went completely unnoticed the entire evening, it took forever for someone to take our plates and the staff were constantly rushing around making the environment quite stressful and difficult to enjoy my meal.

"I've been going to Oxford for 3 years now and in that time to be frank struggled to find a decent go to restaurant. I can now say with delight i've found my destination. I present SPICED ROOTS a little caribbean culinary gem. The fresh perfectly cooked food is absolutely delicious and gives off that home cooked by mummy vibe and is beautifully presented. The chilli and garlic prawns had my eyes closed Mark Weins style (if you know you know) so juicy with an incredible depth of flavour, the Trini doubles not only were seasoned to perfection they left you wanting more and the Jerk chicken spring rolls were an absolute triumph. For mains we had the ackee and callaloo Jerk Tempah (vegetarian) and the Jerk chicken. Both came with rice peas, plaintain and salad. Not only were the portions huge the flavours of both dishes were just mind blowingly delicious. Then we embarked on dessert and had the beautiful spiced rum cake and a selection of 3 home made ice creams namely Coconut, Guinness and the old Caribbean favourite Rum and Raisin, all recommended by the owner. It's at this point I feel compelled to speak about the rum raisin ice cream. I've eaten this ice cream on numerous occasions at numerous locations in Jamaica over my many years and I tell you no word of a lie this was hands down the best rum and raisin ice cream I've ever tasted, it literally left us speechless. So to summarise, this place has great food, great music, great service and a wonderfully charming owner who's totally invested in serving great, incredibly tasty, authentic Caribbean food clearly prepared with love. What more could you ask for. Fair to say it was meant to be. Uncle Jay."
