"I have been a very frequent customer of chew kitchen in the past, having left a 5 star review 6 years ago and having visited many times in between. There is no denying this place does the best roast dinner in the valley, something that has brought us back time and time again. Although this frequency has reduced due to the costs of the roast dinners increasing over the years, we still enjoy coming here for a treat. The owners changed over earlier this year and this is the first time I have visited and had a roast whilst solely under the management and chef of the new owners. I am very pleased to say that the roast dinner is still just as delicious as it always has been and would still recommend anyone try this dinner as you won’t be disappointed. I absolutely love the way they cook their beef, which is complimented by the Stilton gravy. Also their red cabbage is some of the best I’ve tried and something I was really looking forward to. When my dinner came out the red cabbage provided to us was very sparse, only enough for one tablespoon each which wasn’t what we were used to on our very many previous visits, and so we asked for more, and for some more gravy. It was a bit of a surprise to see we were then charged £3.50 for the pleasure of a bit more red cabbage, and £2 for the gravy when we were given our bill. As mentioned I have been coming here years and this was never something that was in place before, nor were these extra charges verbally explained to us when we requested extra, or was there any written explanation on any menus that you would incur extra charges for this type of thing…which isn’t something I’ve ever had anywhere I’ve ever eaten out so I guess it’s not something you would expect. So to see them added to the bill does leave a bit of a sour taste to the experience, because £20 for a roast dinner is already on the more higher end. But as I have mentioned we do always thoroughly enjoy our roast here, as we did today. And we will return, but our visits won’t be frequent because it priced more for an occasional treat in my opinion. It would also be better if the extra charges were clearly written on the menus…or scrapped altogether because I don’t feel they warrant fair charges. If we were given a fair portion we wouldn’t have requested more so it’s not really fair to then expect to pay £3.50 more for something you’ve already paid for. I would like to note we did bring up the extra veg charge on our bill and this was reduced to £1.50 but I still don’t believe this was warranted."

"I’ve been going to Good Day Cafe for over a year now. Their brownies are to die for. The perfect amount of crust with a gooey middle that is similar to ganache. Sadly they are trying to be good at everything which doesn’t work. It was my first time sitting inside the cafe and trying out their brunch. How disappointing. The staff are extremely rude and too young to understand how to treat customers. I came in with a friend and my dog carrying a matcha latte I purchased elsewhere. A staff member came up to me and stated I couldn’t drink my drink as it wasn’t purchased there even though I was going to spend money on their products. She then stood at the end of the room watching me every couple of minutes as if to tell me off if I were to drink my drink. At the end of our stay the card machine wasn’t working. She half made a joke, half told us to come up to her to pay but in a way which wasn’t polite. Made the whole situation uncomfortable. The food was also disgusting. I purchased avocado on sourdough toast with vegan sriracha mayo. I wish I took a picture. It was the thinnest slice I’d ever seen. The avocado was made into a paste and thinly applied as if they were spreading butter on toast. I had about 1/4th of a radish as garnish and a thin drizzle of sauce. I love spending money on food but £8 for that was a joke. You’d get a better sandwich from Greggs for half the price. Will definitely be returning for the brownies but sadly nothing else."
