"As I walked the dog this frosty morning I happened upon chef Wilf outside the Rising Sun with sous-chef Philippe they told me how they were preparing for covers today so not wanting to miss out I said I’d be down for a...couple of early ones at o’clock. I went for chicken and my Dad had the beef with roasters, carrot, cabbage, parsnip, root mash, lashings of gravy and a beauty of a Yorkshire pudding could not fault it, three slices of wonderfully tender rare beef, three thick cuts of succulent chicken and all the veg cooked to perfection renowned for his wonderful gravy Wilf didn’t disappoint there either, absolutely stunning. Marvellous speedy, friendly and personal service made for a cracking and thoroughly enjoyable Sunday lunch, well done Team Riser take a bow, no wonder it’s so popular "

Stopped for lunch on a long January dog walk. Warm welcome into the spotless bar despite our (especially dog's) muddy state, quick service and a very decent fish and chips. Looking forward to next trip.

Great hospitality, and a lovely pint of beer. Excellent food I chose the pheasant pie a good sized portion pie served in a metal tray with puff pastry top packed with meat and flavour. Followed by lovely sticky toffee pudding and...ice cream. Recommended. A nice garden at the back looking out towards the viaduct cold wet evening so stayed indoors.

We visited this pub yesterday after a long dog walk with friends. Our friends have just moved to the area and recommended that we stopped for a drink and food. The lady that served us was very welcoming and fitted us in for food as...we hadn’t booked. Lovely meal and we ended up staying most of the day as a nice atmosphere and dog friendly. Would totally recommend stars

we were close and decided to dive on a Friday night. Although sonya was super busy, sonya made us incredibly welcome, got us relaxed at the bar and checked us with us until she could find us a table. afterward and we were glad that we waited when the food was excellent. we had enjoyed it so much that we had lunch again on Saturday and then on Sunday, that was excellent. all the workers were brilliant and felt so welcome. special mention, although for sonya who went beyond and beyond.

We had a lovely lunch here after a chilly walk in January. We were welcomed with a lovely fire, delightful and wonderful food. The pheasant pie was delicious and my carrot soup warming and very well made. The quality of the food is great and...the chef took the trouble to come out and explain how he prepared the pheasants quite a task with pheasants presented to him from the local shoot. This is quality food and a really professional chef with oodles of experience. A rare find and worth a detour
