"This pretty CS Lewis inspired café in east Belfast is a treasure trove of vintage crockery, quirky Narnia-themed artwork and with its perfectly pitched playlist, is a delightfully cosy family run affair offering fabulous food, coffee, tea and delicious tray-bakes all using local produce and suppliers. The Lamppost is now open on Friday and Saturday evenings with a brand new menu featuring a great selection of large and small dishes with suggested wine pairing, and some great vegetarian and vegan options, so we were delighted to have been invited down to be one of the first to try out the new menu. We began with a gorgeous Mackerel Rillette with watercress, cucumber pickle, and toasted sourdough, a Tempura Oyster Mushroom with maple glaze, kimchi bean sprouts, and an incredible gochujang mayo, and Grilled Asparagus with harissa yogurt, dill and toasted almonds, all of which were perfect sharing starters. To follow, the Mussels with Orzo, leeks, peas and saffron cream were fresh and bursting with flavour, and the Lentil Dahl with miso tofu and crispy onions with triangles of pitta bread for dipping was one of the tastiest vegan dishes we’d had in quite a while, accompanied by some steamed Asian Greens in sesame and ginger. To finish we had a light yet luscious Lemon Roulade with fresh fruit and vanilla cream, and some vegan cheese, a plant based, spirulina blue-veined wedge of Cashew Blue from Nourish Good Food, with crackers and Irish Black Butter. All washed down with an excellent bottle of Porta 6, and some great cocktails, this is a terrific new menu. Many thanks to the team at the Lamppost for a wonderful evening of fantastic food, service and warm hospitality."

"To say this place is a hidden gem is an understatement! The atmosphere was electric, the service phenomenal and the food was to die for! To start, three of us had the beef ragu arancini and it did not disappoint. Crunchy breadcrumbs covered rice with a soft bite and hiding in the centre was a delicious ragu with melted stringy mozzarella cheese! The burnt shallot aioli added the final touch. Our other friend went with the fiery chicken wings. The portion was generous and the coating had a warming kick. Crisp and full of flavour but soothed by the blue cheese dip. The mains consisted of two rump steaks and two plates of belly pork. The rump steak was cooked to each of our likings (medium rare and medium) served alongside the garlic sautéed potatoes, crunchy onion rings, mushroom and tomato with the perfect amount of peppercorn sauce to accompany. To say the steak was melt in your mouth is an understatement! I can hand on heart say it was the best steak I have EVER had! My plate was almost wiped clean I also got to try the pork belly. The fat had a wonderful crunch, the belly itself was tender and the stuffing was divine (I am not a fan of raisins but they worked so well) For dessert… I went with the chocolate brownie served with a cherry compôte and vanilla ice cream. Every mouthful left me wanting more and more. The compôte was slightly sharp against the sweet chocolate and the vanilla ice cream just cleansed the palette. Also on order were the mulled wine poached pear (2) Something I didn’t get to try as the they were devoured in seconds. From the empty bowls it is clear to say that they were delicious (served with champagne and strawberry sorbet) I honestly cannot wait to return and have another fantastic meal here (steak night for myself and the missus) Thank you so so much for an amazing dining and service experience!"
