"Food was excellent but I thought it was a pre plated cold meal, apparently the main course of lobster was supposed to be a hot dish, it was as cold as the cold starter. Our server, Elsa was very good but way too busy with too many tables to look after. We were sat down at 20:00 h and didn’t get our third course until 22:30 ! We went to watch the Bastille day fireworks and everyone in the restaurant had a special set menu of three courses for €120 which had to be paid in advance drinks. The restaurant wouldn’t let anyone in until 8pm consequently about 300 guests all came in at the same time, absolutely absurd, the kitchen staff couldn’t cope, the waiting staff couldn’t cope and the drink servers couldn’t cope. It was utter chaos from beginning to end. Our table had missing cutlery, missing bread (most other tables had bread on before people arrived). We ordered 4 beers as soon as we arrived, they took 25 minutes to get to the table. Ordered some more drinks with a similar arrival time and the next round of drinks failed to arrive at all. The quality of the food was good but the quantity was meagre. The management need to count the cash and laugh about the amount they took away from the customers and use that cash to go on a restaurant management training course. All in all a bad experience but the fireworks were superb. Will definitely not be returning to that restaurant ever again."

"People. What annoys me about cannes - and for that matter most of the port towns of the cote d'azure is exactly my experience last night at this soggy dining spot. Ask yourself this; are you the kind of person who would consciously plan to go to dinner in a street side bistro on leicester square, london? or st mark's square venice? or piazza della signora, florence? if you give half a damn about food and value your dignity, probably not. To sit 'al fresco' is one of the great metropolitan endeavors of the common man - i get it and i love it. But to entertain the hope that just by chance, lying off one those main attraction squares or promenades - or in this case - port side restaurants with the best views and the prime location, that there should be an accidental find of gastronomic serendipity hitherto unknown is to be foolish. to be a dreamer. What history has taught us In fact, what you get - by way of money back guarantee - is an abundance of AVERAGE. and, if you really don't give a toss and can't be bothered to research just a little, then you will no doubt be satisfied with the majority of SUB- average taverns, plying their lazy sub-standard wares to a mute audience who don't care anyway so what difference. We did our trip advisor due diligence and came up with Aux Beaux Enfants. we didn't want fancy, we didn't want gastronomy, just a good bistro experience, lacking in pretension. The place itself is nicely decorated and comfortable. the food is just average. teetering, from dish to dish, to below average. the sole meunière was deep fried like a thai cat fish. the pate was pork on the verge of high. the artichoke pate with cheese, was like a salty, chewy block of wax with a tiny piece of tinned artichoke, easily mistaken for mush. The sides were tasty and comfortingly overcooked into a baby food consistency; fennel provencal, dauphinoise, rice and sweet potato, pommel frites...all the same texture with various shades of sweet and salt. the deserts were generic and over-burdened with white sugar sweetness. the listless, perfectly average staff had the spiritless glazed-eyed look of the surrendered. it's my fault. what did i honestly expect."

"New York New York is a large restaurant in the central sea front restaurant area of Cannes. It is an attempt to serve French style American food. Entering the restaurant appeared to be quite complex as there are several entrances that appear to pose as the welcome desk. After being spoken to loudly and in my opinion rudely, by a waiter, I did eventually find the correct place to wait where I was finally located a table.I was given a menu promptly and asked what I would like to drink. No drink card appeared to be available or if there was I was not given one.I ordered a bottle of Belgian Leffe. I was also asked if I wanted a bottle of fizzy water. I had to specify that I wanted the free tap water as it was not offered My choice of food was the chicken burger and fries. Again it was served almost instantaneously. Although the food was well cooked and well presented I found it to be very bland and highly over priced at over 21 Euros. The filling of the burger was made up of reconstituted chicken covered in a coating of breadcrumbs. ( very similar that provided in U.K. Super markets in a pack of 2 for less than 5 pounds)! It was in fact s much larger version of that found at McDonalds. The fries were nicely presented in a metal can but were swimming in fat, were very greasy and one was burnt. They were warm rather than hot. The cheese was a very fine layer of soft cheese spread. The best part was the small salad. As I found the meal to be tasteless and blandI I asked for some ketchup. I had to shout after the waiter who at first ignored me. This was eventually plonked in front of me without a smile. Although clean and inviting. I did find the interior of the restaurant to be rather dark and gloomy. Where I was seated there was no air conditioning and I found the restaurant to be very hot and sweaty. Overall I found the restaurant to be very overpriced for Cannes and a poor attempt to provide France style American food. However looking around I did see people eating dishes such as Caesar salad and Salmon and they looked more appealing. I often eat French style American food in France and from experienced New York New York would not be as high on my list as other restaurants. The restaurant could perhaps improve by making greater efforts to welcome customers eating alone. Perhaps also free nibbles could be offered as part of a welcoming strategy along with making a drinks menu available. The staff could perhaps make a more conscious effort to welcome customers who have chosen their restaurant above the other half a dozen or so near by."
