"We walked in at our allotted time. Stood for a couple of minutes while being ignored by staff busying themselves with making up tables etc. Waved toward a table in the corner. Not auspicious but ok. Drinks order taken, we just opted for a litre should have made more than 1 and a half glasses each of white sangria. Which consisted of some chopped apple and orange some white wine not chilled and Ice. Was a bit underwhelming really. We were not really feeling the love at this point. We had some olives and bread and butter. The butter was the pre packed single portion variety. No oil or vinegar etc. We ordered mains. My partner had the seafood stew special which was served with some rather lifeless bread, but the stew itself was excellent. I had a mixed meat skewer with some extra king prawn. Was asked if I wanted hot piri piri which I did. It came up with a rather disappointing salad a little equally disappointing rice, and some excellent if sparse fried potatoes. The prawns turned up 5 minutes later. The meat was good the piece of steak was tough and chewy but flavourful, though the piri piri was all but absent. I think with the prawns the cost was around £25. The prawns were over salted We both had a dessert which was OK. A coffee and a Portuguese take on Amaretto which was excellent). By this time and having had to fight to get the attention of the lad laying up tables in order to order, and failing we were served by a lady who was pleasant and attentive. Overall for £120 with a tip, for 2 it was underwhelming, it may just have been that night after all the Christmas madness. We will give it another go soon and see how it is. But for now, it’s average service and despite the excellent fish stew. Average food."

"I’m a chef, one of the world’s finest. I create recipes and concepts that would amaze anyone. I like to travel around the world to feed my beautifully crafted, delicious brain. I came to canvey island after a chef in Paris (Pholippe de la mearde) told me about this place and how he had a very ordinary experience here. I was greeted with the respect that I deserve from commoners and was shown to my table. The table next to mine was quite close to mine and I overheated with excitement when I heard their conversation.they were talking about their food she was explaining how much she enjoyed the sausage and he was telling her that he was going to smother her in sauce with his sausage when they got back to their bed sit. I went ahead and ordered some food. When my scotch egg arrived,I was dazzled by its magnificence,it looked like something that I had created….PERFECT! The side effects were pleasing and the side salad looked like it had been created by Colin van Clunt (a chef I know from Vladivostok)…..FRESH !! The staff were all very attractive (attentive) and catered for all of my bizarre needs, one memorable member of the brigade escorted me to the toilets and showed me how to use a “urinal “ as I had never seen or used one before. My puddle (probably pudding) was very attractive (like me) and it tasted as good as something even I could produce. It was 2 perfectly square spheres of ice cream, one chocolate and one not chocolate and it had a green sauce expertly dumped over it that tasted like a mixture of mint and veal….STUNNING! The bill was also very pleasant, the manager recognised me from the television and took 79 p off my meal.such a great show of respect and humility. I left feeling like I could walk on water !! (I can’t because I tried that one when I thought I was god and sunk like a rock). WONDERFUL MEAL"

"I’ve taken a few days to write this review as didn’t want to write it when angry! Took my daughter , daughter in law and there newborns for breakfast as a treat, we placed our order my daughter ordered a full English asked for her bacon to be well done (crispy I ordered Welsh Rarebit, daughter in law an omelette. Full English came out with anaemic bacon I got a croque monsier omelette was perfect. We called the waitress asked for the bacon to be cooked to how we ordered said mine was wrong. She took mine away left the mushrooms , took the bacon but left the rest of the breakfast on the table, (bacon came back still not crispy so again was sent back and by this time the rest of her breakfast was cold and the scrambled eggs had made the toast soggy beans had a skin on them so breakfast was not eaten. When they came to clear the table my daughter pointed out that the breakfast was ruined was ASKED if she wanted to see the manager, the chef came out (manager? asked what the problem was said he would remove it from the bill which we said was a nice gesture as paying £15.50 for something that could not be eaten was a bit much, I then pointed out that my order was also wrong and that I was left with the mushrooms he replied yes I did hear that but I was on pastry I’ll also remove that…Then off he went! Within minutes he came storming out said he had spoken to the waitress that we got what we ordered( I don’t like to be called a liar! He done a complete 360 told us our breakfast was COMPS to get out not come back as we don’t like their food! I replied I was more than happy to pay for what we had eaten and our coffees again in front of all his customers told it was COMPS to GET OUT!!! So a word of warning if you go there and something is not to how you ordered please be aware they cannot take criticism and this is how you are treated!"
