Usually favourite restaurant totally rushed last night. Such a shame food delicious but badly lacked atmosphere and service last night.

I've been here several times and enjoyed the food. The last time was in June, and the food was ok rather than great perhaps a change of chef? Still perfectly palatable and the service is lovely so I will be back one weekend. View menu

I visit Malaya with my family every year for my birthday. The food is good and as a Malaysian born, the food is authentic tasting. However, one thing I found off putting is that we were charged 12.5% service for our food and drinks.

Just wanted to put on record what a little gem of a restaurant Malaya, Benfleet is. Fantastic, tasty generous portions of Malaysian food from a varied, interesting menu, for a reasonable price, at a clean, intimate welcoming restaurant, run by a small, cheerful hardworking team. I have paid a lot more for a whole lot less up town. A brilliant evening was had by my family, thank you so much. It's totally recommended.

Been here a few times , food always great, down side. Staff over attentive got asked 4-5 times are we ready to order by different members of staff, then as we were eating constantly clearing bits off table, felt like they were rushing to get us served out , great shame as could be amazing there service charge added on bill for 4 £165. The wife and I don’t eat out much these days due the the cost and it’s nearly always a disappointment. For a birthday treat we tried Malaya. It was a really nice evening. Lots off staff so good service and great food. We had the taster menu plus the pork belly with the main course. Plenty of booze was consumed so the bill wasn’t small, however all in all I would say it was good value for money. Only slight moan!! It was one of the warmest nights of the year, they could have been more generous with the air con. Would go again

A friend recommended for us to try and it did not disappoint. We have driven past this restaurant many times but so glad we went today. The food is Malaysian you can taste the fresh ingredients and spices truly amazing. We went for the Sunday special which was £16.90 per person for 2 courses. I had the salt chilli prawns to start and Hubby had the Kam Hong chicken good size portions then followed by Malacca hot beef with egg fried rice and Mee goreng which had prawns chicken mixed with noodles so tasty. Three of us came for dinner and had a range of different meals. The Sui Mai was lovely, the spring rolls had too much batter and the chicken satay was oily and wasn’t the best. The main courses were much better. We had Nasi Goreng Kampung (lovely if you suffer with spice! also the chicken rendang and Mee Goreng (which comes highly recommended if you like spice! I would recommend the noodle dishes and we saw the sweet and sour dishes being brought out, they looked and smelled amazing also!
