"Typical Weatherspoons in that you know what they serve and how it works. Went here to meet up with friends for lunch. Had nice lunch (I had Lemon and herb chicken with mash, peas and gravy and pudding (millionaires shortbread a bit small! and then stayed chatting for hours. No one moved us on even though we did not buy anymore drinks."

"Another lovely find in Sandwich! My wife and I dropped in for a meal and received a friendly welcome and were seated quickly. Menus were perused and choices made whilst our drinks made their way out to us. My wife's coffee was sublime and my cider choice was perfect. Our food arrived promptly (a pork belly burger and a cheeseburger) and was far better looking than my photos show. More importantly it tasted magnificent! Really good quality food in a generous portion. The staff were attentive but not over bearing which made us feel cared for and not harassed. We both decided on pudding although we were stuffed from the main course. My wife had the poached pear and I had the sticky toffee pudding. Again, it was served promptly and was sublime! We had a wonderful time here and would recommend it to all. Well done the hop huffkin"

"After waiting over an hour to finally be served our roast dinner. Which arrived wrong as it was the table next to ours order. Which they were waiting for after their starters. So after changing the roast pork for beef we waited 5 and half minutes before the vegetables gravy arrived. So the meat potatoes are now cold the broccoli was mush well over cooked and gravy was just stock. No Yorkshire puddings as apparently run out. Which is hard to believe as quick easy to make a patch up for another 8 roasts dinners considering the time we and the other table waited. The other table then cancelled their order. Free round of drinks offered but we decided to have our dessert else where. Will not be rushing back."

"Oh dear! What a dirty place with staff that have no customer service or basic hygiene knowledge. We ordered an ice cream sundae, a Fanta and a cup of tea. The tea was returned twice on account of pieces floating in it (looked like a couple of fingernails) and also watching the surly girl make it and taking the teabag out after 10 seconds rendering the tea grey and tasteless. The girls behind the counter were applying lip gloss and running their fingers through their hair to rid themselves of loose strands. The tables are dirty, the skirting boards gross and a tupperware container at the end of the counter filled with grey water seems to be the order of the day for 'cleaning ' the tables. We are local and have been on numerous occasions it 's always dirty but you can overlook it mostly as in the week the service is ok the weekends are obviously very different."

"I always order from Crystal Gardens if I want a chinese and they are usually really good, but on this occassion, I was very disappointed. I ordered chips in barbeque sauce, barbequed ribs in sauce and a pancake roll. The food was cold when it arrived and, even though there was plenty of sauce, there was no way it was barbeque flavoured. It was very dark, thick and tasted more like Hoi Sin sauce. Think I will stick to more traditional dishes in future."

"Ordered food last night, large order for 6 people. Food was delicious and tasty. We had to wait about 30 minutes longer than expected but it was worth the wait. We all commented on how much we enjoyed it good sized portions and they serve Thali which was a bonus. Complimentary poppdoms too. Would definitely recommend and order from here again when in the area"

The elderly man walked out This is the worst place to order food from absolutely poor service it’ll be great if McDonald’s was to come to at James as they are customer friet"

"This was a unique stay. I reserved and paid for the room through a well-known on-line booking firm, received check-in and check-out instructions via e-mail from the B&B, so I never met or even saw a person regarding our stay. Entry to the building and room was gained using a keypad with code which was in the e-mailed instructions which also had a phone number to call if there were issues. Fortunately, we had none. The room was clean and comfortable, though sparsely decorated and very small. The bathroom was tight. I'm 5'10 , 160 lbs,, not generally affected by close spaces, but felt confined. The shower was modern with plenty of hot water and good water pressure, but don't drop the soap. Our room was right over the entrance to the pub, and there was a lot of loud talking until about 2300 hours on Saturday night. Sunday night was very different, but the pub closes at 2200 on Sundays. Breakfasts were served in the pub and were quite good. Pretty standard fare, coffee/tea, juice, toast, full English breakfast available, and the service was very friendly and fast. There are a few spaces for parking, and we managed to get one the second night, but had to park on the street the first night. Overall, we had a good stay for what we paid, but I left wondering if there were other options close by. The pub downstairs was convenient, and I will cover this is in a separate review."

"We have made a point of coming here ever since we discovered it during lockdown. In fact, it was the highlight of our trips to Deal and we always made sure we’d done the shops and got in here before they closed at 3pm. Unfortunately, the last few times it seems they’ve changed the way they do things. Their cheese toastie with slaw used to be sublime but the slaw has gone from being a bit more of a medley of veg to just shredded cabbage so not really ‘slaw’ at all. On our last two visits, the toastie has had barely any cheese in it to the point where i have a job finding any at all. For the price of it, you’d expect cheese to be dripping out the sides, or at least present. Oat milk flat white could be hotter (I know you can’t heat milk alternatives up to the point of dairy milk but it could be better than luke warm). I’m so gutted; we’ll have to find somewhere else to have our coffee and toasties but I hope they see this and up their cheese game so we can come back! Pleeeease?!"

"Well I dropped into the PLOUGH for a late breakfast on Friday with my partner and have to say its the best breakfast I've ever had! Absolutely gorgeous food and Roy, our host, couldn't do enough for us. Had to retire to the sun trapped beautiful gardens to let it all go down. A beautiful and peaceful secluded spot. Didn't want to leave! Could have stayed all day! Was so impressed I brought the kids for Sunday roast yesterday and we were far from disappointed. Massive helpings. You definitely get your monies worth here! This pub is a real country gem. We'll done Brian and Roy! You have a lovely pub and John and the team looked after us totally yesterday. Amazing service. "Popped in today for lunch on a rainy day in Sandwich. It was 2pm and it was half full. We were left to wait and didn 't t know if we should just choose our own table. One lady working there ignored us at first, and I asked if we could sit anywhere, to which she said yes. This particular waitress with short dark hair, was nothing but rude to people. we had ordered food and two teas. After watching her bring out other drinks and after 15 mins I asked if our teas were nearly ready. She looked at me as though I was something on our shoe, and said yes I know really sarcastically. And walked off. The same woman went on to put the closed sign up at 2.30pm despite saying it was open until 4pm. A couple tried to come in, and there was no apology they were closed, but she just pointed to the sign and walking off, said closed . Another couple came and stood for 5 mins, and she just ignored them and kept walking past until they gave up and left. Upon coming to pay with a card, we were told cash only. I said I didn 't know and she said it 's on the till, you need to find a cash machine . My friend went and found one in the rain, and we paid. The food was on apart from crunchy chips, but the atmosphere was so poor. I was not the only one to notice this lady and heard a couple of people complaining about her attitude. Will definitely not be returning"

"I had just dinner here and was really impressed. it's nice to have something else here in dover and I really hope this place surrounds. had to start the cod frit and the sauce was super delicious! jerk chicken wrap for net, all meat is cooked to a middle heat, so I got a little top from home made chili sauce, which really had a blow whisper was a lemon drizzle with around and rosin egg that had some nice big chew pieces. the pineapple cooler was also delicious. the food was great and quickly came out. the service was friendly and friendly. clean clean space comfortable seating. the one that really impressed me was the eco-friendship of the place. the tassen are compostable, the plates and bowls were all kartons and the cutlery was wood (except spoon). so they also do their little bit for the environment! well worth the visit, some can think on the expensive side, but open to good quality crafted food. I'm happy to pay! thanks for a nice dinner!"

"My family and I have visited the Bandstand bakery/cafe many times over the last five years. We are always greeted with a massive friendly smile from all members of staff from this quaint family business. You can buy items to take away as per most bakeries freshly made bread, pastries, cakes etc) and eat in as per a cafe. The food on offer is always superb guaranteed the greatest chips served that you've ever tried) And really reasonably priced I paid today less than £5 for a generous ham and cheese omelette and chips with side salad) , offered in a friendly small traditional historic environment with amazing views of Walmer green and the sea. My young family and I absolutely love eating here, the Bandstand's quality, cleanliness open view kitchen) friendliness and value never fluctuates....it's always wonderful and always has been Well done to all that work there. We will be back"

"Starter was bland and tasteless.Absolutely no flavour for smoked salmon patè at all. Toast was cremated. I 'm puzzled why the kitchen or the waitress presenting the food felt it was acceptable to serve it. Had to ask for an edible replacement when a member of staff passed by.. eventually.. as no-one asked if things were ok. It 's not like they were busy as in the hour and a half we were there no other guests were present. Main was ok. Asked for a medium glass of wine they sent and charged a large glass. When we asked for the bill we had been charged for an adult meal for what we thought would be a child 's meal. When we queried the bill we were told we should have asked for a children 's roast, although that was actually offered on the menu and the fact that one guest was an 8 year old I didn 't realise it was necessary to state the obvious, which the lady pointed out.. that apparently we should have specified. We were made to feel uncomfortable and awkward and were obviously the topic of conversation with the staff that could be overheard from the kitchen. It was handled very badly. As a result they deducted a glass of wine and waived the optional service charge which for poor service we had already declined to pay. Too little too late I 'm afraid. If the issues had been dealt with in a polite or amenable manner in the first place we would have maybe reconsidered but the attitude was far from professional and infact unnecessary. Decor was nice but that was about it! Definitely will not be returning or recommending! Prefer the smugglers personally which is practically next door!"

"So sorry we bothered have heard such good things about the place we decided to go well a very long wait for food but you were busy coffee tasteless I ordered the chicken leek and bacon pie it was microwaved!! Yes may have been originally made on the premises but that along with the frozen veg also microwaved and gravy that was swimming all over it was instant too with lumps from poor mixing. Yes you refunded the price of that meal but not the point at that price I expected better The breakfast had by other members was not outstanding either plus bread and butter and toast for 2 separate peoples meals on the same plate which seemed a daft idea"

"My husband and I frequent this cafe often, but after the last couple of visits we are having second thoughts on returning. For the last 2 times we have been in, the male waiter/barista has the most unwelcome attitude ever, he rather be chatting with the chefs than doing a proactive job, which in my experience, since I worked my way up from waiter to manager, is not rocket science, just need to have a bit of input. This guy is always dragging his feet and does little to nothing which has been noticed in more than the last 2 visits we had, and today just took the cake. The sign by the entrance had a 30 minute wait for food, with only 3 tables sat at the time, we got pointed to the lovely conservatory but all the vacant tables were dirty. We sat in front of the counter and after 10 minutes (I clocked in the time when we arrived and departed) no one came to even offer us a drink, while another lady was pacing around. We used to love coming here and I am not entirely sure I would like to come back to that kind of service, which now we know is not an isolated incident, for the looks another people have decided to speak out and I really hope this gets sorted soon or we would take our custom somewhere else."

"Overlooking the River Stour and the 14th century Barbican the Bell Hotel is ideally placed to welcome visitors to this historic Cinque Ports town.Arriving on a very busy Easter Saturday with lunch in mind the family had a brief look at various other options before eventually choosing the Bell. At a glance we decided to eat outside then alternatively in the immediate bar area, but after being told they first needed to clear the tables and that there would be a 30 35 minutes wait for food my immediate inclination was to look elsewhere. However, after making a quick reconnaissance and further inquiries a lovely window table was found on the upper level which offered a full waiter service. Settling down into our comfortable seats we placed our order for starters of carrot and coriander soup, courgette sweetcorn fritters and salt and pepper squid. To follow, the main courses were grilled mackerel accompanied by new potato salad and veal escalope.Although one of our party expressed a reservation over the mackerel dressing the overall rating was very favourable in terms of cooking, taste, portion sizes, presentation and service. In my own case my crispy coated escalope of veal with sauteed new potatoes and green beans finished with a buttery caper sauce exceeded my expectations. Only one diner felt able to manage a dessert a pear tart tatin and Cornish cream ice cream. For drinks we chose Gordons pink gin and lemonade, Fevertree tonic water and two glasses of the excellent Runnymede Sauvignon Blanc (Marlborough N.Z).A very enjoyable lunch in a comfortable and unhurried environment away from the hectic downstairs atmosphere and compared to other nearby establishments at a competitive price. As one would expect the facilities matched the cleanliness of our immediate surroundings."

"Wasn’t sure what to expect, it was a last minute booking on Father’s Day and they had a vacancy for five and a dog! Tables outside with a gazebo and a singer setting up, but we’d elected an inside table as there was a chance of rain. Directed to our table which had a reserved sign. Table layout was spacious, distance between tables was good most venues seem to cram the tables in to maximise profit. Roast diners of lamb, beef or turkey with roast pots and seasonal veg, there were about 10 12 other main courses covering pies, fish, salad and lasagna etch plus a selection of children’s meals. You go to the bar to order your food and drinks. I opted for the steak and ale pie, chips and peas, it said there was optional seasonal veg but they sent that out anyway. Daughter had half roast chicken and others the roast Turkey. The pie was a large portion, pastry thin and the meat plentiful and full of flavour, best I’ve had in ages, the chips large and crispy and the peas were …..peas. All in all a great plate of food. Equally the other meals were generous potions, Turkey and roast potatoes almost filled the plate. The veg was well cooked, not over done and consisted of carrots, cauliflower and cabbage. More than we needed. All meals arrived together and hot, waitresses (2) were good, offered condiments and returned 10 mins later to check everything was ok. Plates cleared but not rushed to leave, declined desserts as we were too full. The bill came to £61.00 for five meals (not including drinks) when I enquired about the service charge, the owner told me it’s not included and declined to take it and politely asked me to pay our waitress direct. Must be a good place to work to have such an honest boss. Would we go back, definitely, would we recommend it, yes but don’t all book at once or we may find it harder to get a table!"

"We eat from here very often, last night we had an issue where our order was accepted and they was actually closed (technical glitch) no real drama, worst things have happened but today they called to apologise. Not only is the food quality, so are the family that run the business. I’m leaving his review after eating from them for a very long time, but because of the quality of the food (which is very good) but because of the customer service which is exceptional and you don’t receive it very often, support local and enjoy, it’s very good"
