"Pizza Excellent Beer Excellent Atmosphere Excellent Music Excellent Staff Excellent What's not to love about this little gem of a place. We had a table of 8 on Good Friday. The place was buzzing. The staff were so welcoming we relaxed straight away. The choice and quality of the beers were amazing and when our food arrived we were not disappointed. The pizzas available were different in terms toppings that we have had before and worked really well. This place keeps it simple but does it with professionalism while keeping it fun and friendly. At the end of the night we were presented with a bill that was more than reasonable. Would highly recommend to anyone."

"We visited Dover Marine Hotel yesterday 16th December 2023 for a Christmas lunch. We have visited many times with family for coffees at this Hotel, but never for lunch, so we had no expectations. From the moment we arrived we were treated with courtesy and attentiveness . We were taken to our table which was a lovely crescent shaped banquette and seated. We had a wait of half an hour for our meal in which time we were given fresh French bread, plenty of water and our specified wine and drinks. Our orders taken we were able to take in the atmosphere which was tastefully decorated in the English Christmas tradition with lit Xmas trees. Our starters salmon and peppers and mozzarella were light, finely prepared and the Game Pie was very filling all were delicious. The mains were all traditional roast Turkey which lay almost regally across our plates with its courtiers of Brussel sprouts, carrots, French beans, pigs in blankets and stuffing. Finishing with a home made brownie, superb ice cream and a Dickensian plum pudding. Coffee was offered but declined . Our extended family live abroad so we have made it a yearly event to celebrate with them in spirit at various local eateries and restaurants We all agreed that this lunch was the best not only for its excellent cuisine, but most importantly for its wonderful service. All the staff in the restaurant and throughout the Hotel were impeccable in their manner, in particular our two waiters Paolo was one who served us and nothing was too much trouble. We wish to commend the whole experience."

"We have very mixed feelings about this pub. A very good point, the food is excellent! The beers too! Plus, there's live music. Concerning the rooms, the children's room was rather comfortable and well decorated. Unfortunately, that of the parents did not correspond at all to the confirmation or to our expectations. The bed is indeed large and comfortable but accessible from one side only, good luck if you have to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night! And no bedside table on the wall side... Unlike the other bedroom, no desk, no chair... The bathroom is disappointing too! Endless waiting for lukewarm water in the shower, toilet impossible to use unless you take a gynecological position because the shower cubicle is 15 cm away. In addition, the heating did not work in the bathroom or in the bedroom and with an 18th century window everything is cold and damp. No hook either, and so if you took a shower in the evening, the towels are still soaked the next morning... Rooms: Be careful to have the confirmed room, room 3 should be avoided"

"We came in after my daughter’s appointment as a treat. Staff were friendly and welcoming, food was quite quick and tasty, son enjoyed the play area whilst waiting for the food (which really helps as he is autistic and struggles to sit patiently), and I received blue light card discount which was a bonus so close to Christmas! Will definitely come again, and have already recommended the Rock Rose to friends and family! Parking: Has its own large car park. A few disabled spaces close to the entrance we didn’t need to use, but did notice them. Kid-friendliness: Has kids play area, ideal for smaller children, not for older children. Up to 8 years old maybe? Wheelchair accessibility: Did not need accessibility, but it is all on one level and would be completely wheelchair accessible (in my opinion)."

"Visited on a Tuesday evening to celebrate a birthday . Waiter seemed a little sullen when we first arrived but soon warmed to us and very soon became the perfect waiter , even to the extent of offering to tone down a rather hot Naga curry my sister had ordered . Brought out a rather toned down creamy curry with extra chunks of chicken . Food was pretty good and plentiful, full of flavour and big chunks of meat . Naans were delicious fresh , as was the rest of the food . Manager seemed genuinely dismayed that one member of our party couldn’t enjoy her curry as was too spicy , but not the restaurants fault . Reasonably priced and even left with 4 cartons of food due to generous portions. Will definitely return when back in Temple Ewell ."

"We stumbled upon a hidden gem with amazing staff who were friendly and helpful. The restaurant is filled with interesting memorabilia, making it a visually captivating place to dine. We spent a few hours there and kept discovering new things on the walls and ceiling. The food was delicious, with large portions that were well cooked and presented. From the starters to the mains to the desserts, everything was mouthwatering. The attentive staff made our evening even better, and the reasonably priced cocktails were delicious. We highly recommend a visit to this restaurant. Thank you for a wonderful evening."

"Loving the eclectic style and vibe. The cooper whisperer Lady that spoilt our pooch . Very friendly experienced chatty staff. Definitely an experience of a gastro pub lunch. Roast had super depth of flavours, not much meat small little slices of perfect cooked beef. Think our food went to another table they didn't order pigs in blankets) hence 4 stars also was a tad on the expensive side for a roast. The entry level red and white wine, vin du pay herault where good value and tasty £24. Ps roast has gone up £10 quid since last year . £55 quid per head. But as you know fuel food wages have all increased. Makes hospitality tough."

"We booked this meal for wedding anniversary and booked it 3 weeks ago. We left our phone number with them. We arrived to the restaurant only to see it has changed hands !!!!!!! It is now an Italian named Bella Vita . We wanted an evening meal and had already picked out what we were going to have from the menu only to see its now an Italian., We stayed there to try it but come away VERY disappointed !! My started was garlic and chilli prawns, there was 5 mid size prawns in an oil with chilli and garlic. NO bread or anything to go with it. The wife had the antipasta board ! ok there were some cheese and meats but nothing to write home about and once again NO bread . Both had the linguine with prawns and again NO bread. The wife had a Pims and I had a pint of shandy and the bill was just short of £90. Sorry but until they sort themselves out we will not be going back. ps, no one bothered to text or talk to us to inform us they had changed hands so we were very dissapointed with that as well."

"I am reluctant to write negative food reviews, but my recent experience of The Royal Hotel was very disappointing and I make this review in the hope the management will see what was not great and perhaps change it. I have been a regular customer of the hotel for many years, as guest, drinker and diner….and for various reasons have not visited for about a year. The last occasion being a breakfast, which was great…. Not cheap, but good quality, well cooked and very tasty. Fancying a treat my wife and I dropped by for breakfast at 1045….. breakfast being served until 11…. The fact it was near to 11 seemed to be a problem when we were told that unless we got the order in very quickly, we would miss out. I had the full breakfast at £11.00 and to be honest was probably the worst cooked breakfast I have had for ages . The main problem was the bacon…..more fat than meat and undercooked, with large sections of the fat only having had a passing acquaintance with the heat. The sausage which appeared to have cooked through had very little colour and did not look at all appetising. The remainder of the meal was okay. My wife wanting a small breakfast was left with very little choice but to have a breakfast bap as there was no facility to order a smaller ‘Full English’ breakfast on the menu. The bap had the same issue with the bacon and the sausage and was presented as a hamburger…..not ideal from our perspective. Why can’t a smaller version of the full breakfast be offered? I have been a regular user of The Royal as it is a great location with friendly staff…but the fare that was offered to my wife and I today was not even close to what we would expect from it."

"We ordered the seafood platter and found it to be just okay. My parents traveled for hours to come to Deal and we regretted getting seafood from this restaurant. We know of other places that serve delicious seafood, but unfortunately they were closed around 3pm so we decided to dine here instead. The seafood was all deep fried and likely frozen, we were hoping for a fresher option. The bartender, a young man with blonde hair, had a bit of an attitude. The decor was modern and pleasing. Since moving to Deal, we have tried out several local spots but after this experience, we are unsure if we will return to this restaurant due to the unpleasant attitude we encountered."

"We have eaten in this pub many times over the last 10 years when it was a Free House, it has always been a gem and a pleasure until now, it has been taken over by Shepherd Neame brewery, they certainly know how to ruin a previously good pub. Staff were friendly and attentive but lacking knowledge in food. The meals we ordered were over priced, poor quality, the smoked salmon fillet looked like something from Tesco, the veg wasn't present and the meal was tasteless, the scampi was all batter, fries average and no tartar sauce as they had run out, £19 for the salmon, £16 for the scampi, such a pity! We won't be eating here again. They're trading on the beautiful location of pub on a beach, apart from that it has nothing else to offer."

"Food here had been pretty bad but local gossip rumoured that, with a new chef, it had become very good. Tripadvisor reviews were mixed but we gave it a try yesterday and soon regretted the decision. We had pre booked a table though, as it transpired, there were plenty in the restaurant area. The bar was very busy so it took ten minutes for someone to direct us to our table, a further ten minutes to get a menu and another ten minutes to order. We were warned that there could be an hour 's delay for the food. We wondered how since the restaurant remained largely empty but, having plenty of family gossip to catch up on, ordered some nibbles and drinks and accepted the wait. After another ten minutes, the drinks appeared. After twenty minutes, we asked when the olives would appear (no cooking, after all) and eventually a plate of undercooked doughy 'ciabatta ' (nothing like the real thing) with tiny dish of some sort of oil (not good olive oil) appeared. The new waitress had misunderstood our order but, never mind, we accepted this was a human error. and were hungry enough to tackle the poor food. Time went on...and on...and on. Meanwhile, we were missing all the entertainments on offer for the Sandwich Festival. After considerably longer than the 'hour ', our two seafood platters and one steak arrived. The steak was acceptable, despite the chips not being 'real '. The platters were nothing like those illustrated. Where were the large prawns etc etc? Instead, a poor array of overcold supermarket style freshwater shrimp (tiny and too cold to taste of anything), vinegary mussels and cockles....I could go on you can guess the rest. The accompanying so called 'ciabatta ' had to be sent back as it was so undercooked as to be inedible. You may guess that this place will never see us again except as we walk by to go to the centre of town. What a shame."

"Although we have been living on the road for several months, we have visited our first visit in this beautiful place tonight. the pizzas are amazing, in the did the crusts are the best I have ever tried. husband had mighty meatball and I had pear, bacon and pinenut, both were huge and absolutely beautiful. but the best was still to come to make the good willing room for the tiramisu, it is to die! the service is also exceptional and very friendly. I let the half of my pizza (fit in the tiramisu) and got it friendly to take in a doggybox. can not recommend enough."

"We we’re staying in Deal for the weekend and fancied a take away. We looked up this place on Tripadvisor and realised they had a fantastic gluten free menu. That’s what sold it to us as my husband is gluten free and he cant normally have Chinese food . We were not disappointed, the food was excellent! The food was also delivered within the hour by a delightful friendly lady ! Definitely recommend this place if you are in the area ! Also very reasonably priced."

"Last night I celebrated my 40th birthday at the Frog and Scot with friends. From the moment we arrived we were welcomed by the lovely Cath who treated us like royalty. We then ate like Kings and Queens all night. The food was out of this world! We enjoyed a mix of tapas, sharing platters and desserts all of which were amazing! The waitress, Bryony was on the ball and very attentive to our table throughout the evening. A pleasurable evening! I even got a candle in my rice pudding as I didn’t want cake"
"We had dinner at the pub, it felt in the countryside without being far away from Dover. A good location with sufficient parking. We had pork belly and Salmon en croute with apple crumble and hot cookie dough to finish. All fantastic meals, delicious, well cooked and presented. The staff were friendly, great level of service without feeling rushed or slow. Would recommend!"

"Went with hubby, table booked for 8pm. Had our mains, everything fine. Came and cleared the plates, then we waited, restaurant wasn’t busy I might add and there were sufficient staffing numbers. After about 15 minutes we politely asked for the dessert menu. After about another 10 minutes someone came to take our order. By this time there’s only us and one other couple and it’s about 9:15 pm. Another 15 minutes go by, no sign of our dessert so we called the waitress over and she said she’d go check. She came back very apologetically and told us the kitchen was closed!, what?… by now it’s just us, all the other customers have gone. Seeing our displeasure the manager came racing over and said can I offer you an ice cream or a coffee on the house? We declined and asked for the bill. How an earth did no one know the kitchen was closed, and letting us sit their like lemons. If the place had been heaving, staff run off their feet then yes I could have probably said ok well never mind, but it wasn’t, there is no excuse. Royal Hotel you’ve let me down so I shan’t be coming back."

"What do I recommend about Orient Noodle Bar? Everything!! We're food snobs it's rare we give a review as we only review if the food is really good (or really disappointing . The food we've had from these guys is well worth reviewing, it's so good! Ive got to be honest, we're lazy so order takeaways to be delivered. Therefore we've not ordered from here since living in Dover (12 years . We didn't realise how good it is! Considering how lazy we are it's a huge thing that, rather than getting takeaways delivered, we now go down to collect from here, each every time! We usually have a range of takeaways over the month (Chinese, Indian, pizza/kebab and, I'm ashamed to say, Kaspers. Don't judge me! They are all ok but were not overly keen on any of them, unlike the Orient Bar which blows them all out the water....I wonder where that phrase comes from. Next thing, check Google! . This month we've had food from here EVERY time, apart from once (pizza . So, the reason we love them is the food is fresh, really fresh. It's cooked well and to order. The veg is perfect (for me as I don't like it overcooked but the veg is always still perfectly crunchy. My husband has the ribs the meat just falls off its so nicely cook. The prawn toasts are crunch as they are meant to be (some takeaways they are slightly soggy . I have dried fried noodles they actually are, whereas some places say dry fried but then are in a sauce. I could go on (and apparently, according to my husband when I read this out to him, I do! Cheeky of it! . The food is cooked in front of you it's amazing to watch him cooking about 15 things at one time as. He looks so chilled out about it all but he has been doing it many many years it shows. The work are is clean tidy. Everyone is friendly polite too. We have just ordered again my husband is on his way to collect it. I cant see us using any other Chinese again unless these guys are shut. I cant believe we've missed out for 12 years!!"

"On the evening of 8/10/23, three middle-aged Londoners visited a JDW restaurant in Dover while camping nearby. We had planned ahead for a meal and drinks at this pub, and arrived at around 19:40 to find it bustling with activity. We were lucky to find a table near electric sockets, as one of us needed to join an online game later. We ordered our food and drinks using the app, with one of us getting a surprise discount on their veggie all day brunch. I opted for the battered cod, our friend chose a veggie beyond burger, and the drinks arrived promptly and were delicious. The meals were served hot and were of good size, accompanied by sauces from the bar. After we finished, we moved to a cooler table with an electric socket, where we relaxed and socialized. The clientele included locals as well as tourists from Germany, Poland, and France. We ordered a panini and apple crumble with Vanilla Ice Cream, along with more drinks, before heading back to the campsite. The total bill came to 36.40, which we found very reasonable. Overall, we left satisfied and content with our experience at the restaurant. It's unfortunate to hear that JDW is closing down The Capitol in Forest Hill, SE London, despite their success post-pandemic."
