"I was in here last night to meet a friend, we ordered food, everything was fine, went to order a pudding and was advised to go and look at the desert trolley. The trolley was near the bar, along with a glass cabinet next to...it. I had a browse, took some pictures so my mate can have a look and ordered a cheesecake and a red velvet cake. After a few minutes the waitress came back and advised us that we couldn't have the red velvet cake as it was rock hard and we would need to choose something else. We ordered another cheesecake and off she went. After she went my mate and I were talking and asking each other how is it that some thing could be left so long and unchecked that out goes so solid? The cheesecakes arrived and I would say they were not cold as you would expect but room temperature and felt a bit congealed around the edges. Anyhow my mate ended up finishing off both of them as I was a bit put off by the rock hard cake thing and we left. This morning my mate messaged me to say how unwell he had been this morning so I messaged them on Facebook and asked for some answers about where the deserts were kept and what checks are in place to avoid this happening? I got a quick response however they told me that we had misunderstood the waitress and all there deserts are kept in a fridge out the back. I asked them if this is the case, then why is the so called display cabinet over loaded with stock, arranged terribly and also parts of it were wrapped up in cling film I have photos). They refused to comment on this and instead said what do you want and If I had any concerns regarding this I should contact Enviormental Health and then blocked me on Facebook. I definitely will not be eating here again and think the waitress has been a bit to honest about where the deserts come from. Warm sweaty cakes left out for hours on end and then taken to he kitchen and served. How can any establismehmnt have such few checks that a waitress would come out and say sorry the cake is rock hard you can't have it Terrible place, terrible food and terrible customer serivce but can see reading this that this isn't the first time there hygiene levels have been called into question."

"We went to Cockcliffe Hotel on a Tuesday noon for my men's birthdays with 2 friends. The place is clean, but quite shottig run down in need of a lot of tlc. We arrived at 12.30 for a pre-booked lunch. There was no one at the reception, but we just waited a few minutes before a young lady appeared to us at the restaurant that was empty at that point. She was very attentive; Take coats, bring menus, etc. After reading on review pages that people have enjoyed lunch menus we were disappointed to discover that there is only the a la carte menu available, and not many choice on this. We had no appetizers than, from the 4 elections, there was nothing we fascinated. There were 4 or 5 choices of the main meal our selected main meal after approx. 15-20 minutes, with which 2 more couples had arrived. I had salmon, the other three in our party had the chicken cake. There were no vegetables or potatoes with the cakes, these had to be bought separately for £2.50 per. My salmon came with a selection of vegetable potatoes. The whole food was delicious: hot, perfectly cooked and, although it didn't seem to be much on the plates with the cakes (the home made full filling, and came in individual dishes) there was enough for my companions along with the additional dishes of frits they had ordered. If they had been big eaters, they should have ordered vegetable dishes. None of us loved the bad selection of sweets offered. Overall for the 4 of us for a 1 course meal, bottle of wine 2 beers we paid £65.0. Although we all enjoyed what we had, I will not come back until the place was decorated, the menu has a better choice, so unfortunately I could not recommend Cockcliffe Hotel currently."

"Having scoured Trip Advisor for inspiration and knowing my husband is a connoisseur of the traditional English fare of Fish and Chips, this was an out the way choice for me but alas, sometimes you have to put the husband first and give him what he wants. Fish and chips isn't up there on the first choices for me for sure but my....so glad I did. The decor is impressive, red clay brick outside which is traditional of Nottingham given the local soil content. And the inside you have to see for yourself....stunning and very creatively put together. Beach huts, a traditional yet contemporary bar, glass, rustic and modern. Love it.The food is just incredible. Some clever menu design with something for everything but be warned...a lot of deep fried items which in my opinion isn't a bad thing. Platters of interesting items like squid in Old Bay seasoning, runny scotch eggs, goats cheese fritters and then the classics such as fish and chips, all done exceptionally well. The fish taco was sublime with sweet potato chips and a garlic aioli and the mushy peas just perfect. I loved every mouthful and the service was just brilliant also with a very attentive host. My partner had traditional fish and chips....loved it. Twice cooked chips were stunning. They have a gin bar!! I gush because even though I try not to be a hipster and this is a hipster thing through and through, I ****** love him. No gin this time given it was lunch time (although I did quaff a couple of glasses of Sauvignon) but if I was there in the evening, I would be tapping that lot up.I can't recommend enough for something usual or something classical....British food at its finest and it speaks for itself. Not something you can usually say about our native fare I say, tongue in cheek of course. Fabulous! Ps no room for dessert but they do have candy floss on one of the desserts. I love this idea....fun should and can be fun. Next time I won't eat so much and will indulge...."
