"So, we went to Hastings, as you do. It was a May Bank Holiday weekend. It was a Sunday. Jack in the Green festival was in full swing. So, Morris Dancers and Clog Dancers, scary people with bells, sticks, straw, make-up.true British eccentricity and we loved it. Even better for me, there was a Battala Band.So all pubs full to the gunwales, 40 minute wait for a roast. No, we couldn't do that, let's find somewhere else. We walked down the high street and found Pomegranate. The menu looked good, different, not a Sunday Roast in sight. It was centred around fish and salads.Strangely enough it was a tad late, around 3.30, when we went in, so it was virtually empty, lunch time having been and gone.We chose a glass of rose and both had the hot goat's cheese salad with beetroot and walnut. Utterly delicious, the walnuts were coated in some form of sugar, a really nice touch.Mains were a Gurnard, pan fried in. Utter etc, and a Gurnard Nicoise. Both very good, the Gurnard is a good meaty fish.Pud was a panna cota with rhubarb three ways. Again, lovely.Staff were polite and chatty, they knew the food well. We would happily return here for good clean, fresh, healthy, tasty dishes."

"After reading the good reviews I decided to give this place a try. Turned up without a reservation and was asked to wait while they prepare a table. After 5 minutes I asked for a pint of Cobra and was immediately served with a nice cold beer which certainly helped pass the time. About 10 minutes later I was given a table and promptly ordered poppadoms and a main course. I think they forgot about me as it was pretty busy. After 20 minutes the poppadoms, rice (jeera rice) and the main course(kolhapuri chicken) arrived. It was certainly worth the wait as the rice and main course was absolutely delicious. As another review said, the service is a bit like faulty towers, the staff are great and the girl behind the bar was dedicated to keeping everyone happy. I've been to many Indian restaurants over the years and I recommend you try this one. It's much quieter after 8:30pm where you might find a quicker service."

"We had lunch on a Saturday at this restaurant. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly, with a somewhat rustic yet comfortable feel. We were greeted warmly as soon as we arrived. The menu had a variety of meat and vegetarian options, although we were not sure about vegan options. There were also daily specials based on the available fish. We started with a feta cheese, olive, and melon salad, as well as hummus with special bread, both of which we enjoyed. For our main course, we chose the Fish Pie from the specials menu, which was filled with fish in a flavorful sauce. We also had cocktails, which were traditional and strong, unlike many cocktails these days. The staff, a young lady and gentleman, were friendly, attentive, and made sure we had a great meal without being intrusive. Overall, we had a great experience at this restaurant and highly recommend it. We will likely return the next time we are in Hastings."

"Coast restaurant hosted my husband's birthday lunch and we cannot thank them enough. From the friendly advice during the planning stage, through to the event on the day, no detail was too much for the team. The eclectic atmosphere created by stylish decor and beautiful...lighting far exceeds any expectation on a College restaurant but actually raises the bar high for any restaurant anywhere. The food was delicious with all the guests commenting that they were delighted with their choice and every dietary requirement was catered for with a great option. The team in the kitchen produced consistently high quality across each and every course with presentation kept to very professional standards. The front of house team were excellent and attentive whilst being friendly and helpful to the guests of all ages. In short if you haven't tried it do you won't be disappointed and you will be back very soon ..."

"We have been using the Kingfisher every time we visit Hastings so it has become a very nice ritual over the past years. The fish and chips is always excellent, the fish I believe locally sourced and the food is always top notch. The...Kingfisher is very popular so there is a wait of about or mins max before you are served. It is well worth the wait! The food is always perfectly cooked, and the service is always fantastic. There is a very varied menu to choose from, and all in all the restaurant's popularity with visitors and locals seems obvious and well deserved. Always a great experience. Recommend!"

"We visited Barista The Shack at around 11.30am on a Sunday morning. My partner went up to order and asked for the crab fries which they had run out of. So he came back to me and we decided to order the sausage roll instead which had also run out. He then came back to me again and we settled on the chicken wings. It was only at this point that the lady serving informed him that they actually didn't have any food so we'd have to just have drinks. I don't know why she didn't start with that message instead of letting him run backward and forwards to our table! She was unnecessarily rude but no problem, we went a little further up to Goat Ledge and had a much friendlier experience!"

"I buy most of my groceries here- it’s a fantastic shop, with a great selection of ethical products and lovely staff. They have a really good selection of homemade wraps, salads, sometimes soup, plus delicious treats which are much healthier than most. A selection of fresh organic bread from Judges Bakery is available daily, including a gluten free option. They also have a good variety of environmentally friendly toiletries and cleaning products. I have shopped here for many years and will continue to do so. Some things they don’t have in stock can be ordered in, depending on availability and the minimum order requirements. A definite jewel in the crown of Hastings."

"First time I’ve looked on trip advisor for Peking Garden, am very surprised at the negative reviews. Me and my family have got take away from here since moving to Hastings from London over 8 years ago. Always happy with our orders, very tasty and never greasy. Salt n pepper ribs, phoenix prawns, won ton soup and chair Sui rice to name a few are the best take away Chinese we’ve had. They work ****** hard, it’s authentic and the service/ delivery is excellent."

"this is a special place for us. we had a wonderful ruby high-time jubilee here and that was another special jubilee for us. the restaurant is spacious and the music soothing, improving the experience. eating is not so good. we had a wonderful ktikka...the staff were so helpful and friendly. it was an absolute pleasure to eat here again and I can't eat it very enough with regard to ambiente, service trails over everything else they will experience, and a generally excellent culinary experience. the location is central and it is in my opinion the best Indian culinary experience anywhere in the city. I would like to thank the manager and his personal for making the evening so special for us."

"Excellent place for breakfast. We stayed near this cafe and had tried various places around Hastings before trying out Cafe Mocha on our last day of stay. There were some awful placed to eat breakfast around this area of Hastings. We were pleasantly surprised how friendly the staff were. The quality of breakfast was also one of the best we had eaten whilst in Hastings. Please go to this cafe if you are close; you will not be disappointed."

"I ordered two large portions of cod, two orders of chips, onion rings, and a battered sausage. Unfortunately, the batter on the fish was the worst I have ever tasted. It was thin, soggy, and not light and crispy like it should be. The fish itself was very dry. The onion rings and sausage also had terrible, soggy batter. It was a waste of money, as this was my first time ordering from this restaurant and I will never order again. How can a chip shop not know how to make proper batter? We only ended up eating the chips because the rest was so bad. We spent nearly £30 for just the chips. Overall, the experience was really bad."

"one of the best fishing and chips I ever had and the service was fast and friendly to boot! the dough on the fish and the sausages was light and well seasoned, the part of the chips was massiv, and the muddy heaps were unexpectedly delicious compared to normal. not only was eating great, but there is a massive poster on the wall that shows all allergens in their products! I urgently post the owners a picture of it with the photos up here, so future non-sites know that this is the place to go if they want a great meal that will not contain unexpected allergens."

"This used to be our go to place in town pre-covid but sadly the menu has adapted since and my choice of Tempura cauliflower and chips is no longer an everyday thing but, we are forever grateful for their scrambled tofu recipe and one we eat all the time at home. The menu for vegans is great, the aforementioned 2 along with wraps, fish and chips, daily soups and occasional stews keep it in our top list for the town. The staff are wonderful and friendly too, the cafe is quaint, the music great and always comfy and relaxed. Definite must try and the Fri/Sat night Dirty Vegan too, if nothing else the cauliflower, mmmmm"

"Having moved to Hastings in February from Eastbourne I found myself really missing Mamma Mi, a small Italian cafe in Eastbourne. I have only ever been past La Cantina before but today decided to try it and I no longer miss Mamma Mi so much now that I know there's a lovely Italian cafe in Hastings Old Town. I went alone and kept it simple, I had pasta in tomato sauce and followed it up with a slice of ricotta cake. The pomodoro sauce was so delicious and pasta cooked perfectly. The cake was so lovely and light. The man who served me, I presume to be the owner, he was very nice. The cafe itself is beautiful and I got an unpretentious vibe from the place. I will definitely be making this my main cafe and next time I shall try the nduja panini which sounded lovely. Highly recommended, reasonable prices, great location, wonderful atmosphere and nice sounding menu."

"If you visit this cafe, you'll have a tough time deciding what cake to choose from, as there is a huge variety available. The lady serving was very understanding and patient with me as I changed my mind multiple times before finally choosing a delicious Strawberry and Raspberry sponge cake over other tempting options like Oreo cake, Mint Aero cake, and Lemon slice. I wish I lived closer so I could visit every day. I believe they also serve sandwiches, but I couldn't get past the tempting display of cakes to confirm."

"I am a fan of mixed grills. I have had excellent ones and I have had awful ones and a few in the middle. This one had was better than the average ones. The staff were very friendly, the food was nice and hot. The flavour was good as was the quality of the meat. There was good seasoning and the meat was not too dry. All in all a good mixed grill. It was one of the more expensive in the area and for that price, I would have expected something a bit more special e.g. a tandoori prawn and perhaps a naan bread. It did say that a naan was not included so I was fully aware. I would like to sample more of their food at a later date. Based on the mixed grill I would think it to be good."

"Popped in as we were told about this place by my manicurist. We had 2 lovely gin and tonic. Unique brands. Mybiartners tonic was flavoured with cucumber and water melon, I just had a traditional one but very refreshing. We both felt peckish and had prawn salad and Noel of fries. We did at 1st think the drinks were dear at £16.95 but were really enjoyable and the food prices were great. Friendly host and small bar but easy to chat to locals. We will def be back."

"This place has good reviews and on paper looks inclusive of vegans. Unfortunately it served the worst brunch I can remember having. The mealy tofu scramble was a poor advert for veganism and tasted strangely fishy perhaps badly smoked tofu? The bread didn't seem to have been toasted. A jagged shard of plastic emerged from the scramble sadly towards the end which the staff apologised for as being due to how busy the chef was We were told there'd be a wait but this was not worth the 30 plus minutes. The couple next to us waited a good quarter hour just to order coffees. The coffees and smoothie were OK but served with quantity over quality in mind. While I'm sure staff were doing their best, the cafe felt understaffed and unloved with patchy paintwork and a toilet seat split down the middle. Seating was packed in and on a cold day the windows were fully steamed up with kitchen smells invading the air. Updated from previous review on 2024 02 17"

"Not from Hastings, but always make a point of visiting here whenever we’re in town. Always have nice coffee and the food is good, nothing outstanding, but nice enough. Staff are usually friendly too, which is always nice. One thing that annoys me though, is the usual one person on their own taking up a table for four. Visited today, numerous two seater tables available, but a woman reading a newspaper, looking like she was settled in fur the day, taking up a table (which included a full sofa and two chairs) and all she had was a small coffee. Luckily we managed to find somewhere to sit, when someone else kindly offered to switch tables. The newspaper woman was there when we got there and still there when we left. We noticed other families unable to sit down and leaving, yet she couldn’t care less!! Perhaps staff could ask single diners to kindly sit at two seater tables in future."

"I remember this Chinese takeaway back in 1972 but rarely went there. It must be very well established! We decided to get a Chinese meal today (Saturday February 21st 2016) and tried Chicken Noodles, King Prawn Noodles, Beef and Mushrooms, Satay Chicken Skewers and Butterfly King Prawns. There was an exquisite sauce as well. This entire meal was was absolutely delicious! The flavours were so amazing. Definitely will return. On the down side, my preference would be to see more prawns and chicken and less noodles but the flavour made up for this to some degree. Another Plus Point was the service: cheerful and friendly but not intrusively so. And when we asked when it would be ready she said 10 15 minutes and it was all ready in less then 10 minutes which was much appreciated too. They even gave us a large bag of Free Quackers!"
