"Had my lunch here during my competing in the nearby Crazy Golf World Championships, at Hastings Adventure Golf Course. They 've added a few new meals for summer, and I had the Ploughman 's Lunch, which certainly filled me up, with some lovely cheeses (3 types). Speedy and friendly service, I 'll be back! And a great choice of 6 cask ales, I had the Wylam 'Fleek ' which was pale, dry and bitter, just like me, and just the way I like my ales. 'twas excellent! And a good choice of alternative styles too, including 2 different 'Sussex Best ' bitters, cheers!"

"The first thing you notice is how run down and dirty it looks from the outside. Then there is a hand written notice saying cash only....stuck to a filthy door. There was no pleasantries from the staff who all appeared sullen and disinterested. We ordered some jugs of water which arrived just before we left and had negotiated two thirds of the choices we made because they had no gelato ice cream... So I wrote and complained....apparently the weather has been too bad to do the windows and the ice cream machine was being serviced....so do come again....no, not ever."

"Yesterday evening, as a treat for my husband and daughter who are recovering from Covid, I ordered online a meal from Pizza Express, Hastings. The meal, that comprised starters, mains, sides and dessert, cost £92.78. I received email confirmation of my order and a text message from Uber Direct as to when delivery to our home would be expected. At the expected time, I waited at my front door to collect the delivery. Then the text notification indicated a later time for delivery so I returned to my front door at that time. The driver did not arrive. Then I received a text from Uber indicating that the order had been cancelled, no reason given for this so called cancellation! Certainly, we had not cancelled our order. My husband drove down to Pizza Express, Hastings and spoke to the manager. The chef remembered the order as it was large, he said. The manager mentioned that she also had received from Uber the cancellation text message. She refused to refund our account for an order that we had not received. As it stands this morning our bank account has still not been credited with the cost of the order we did not receive and it looks like the Uber driver must have taken our order home for her own consumption, which would amount to theft! Of course, we are pursuing this with Pizza Express and their delivery agent, Uber, however, it is clear to us that after such a thoroughly disappointing experience we will never again visit Pizza Express for a meal nor order from them online; we have been customers of Pizza Express for decades and it was a favourite go to especially when we needed this, as when recovering from Covid! Our advice to readers of this review, do not trust the online order facility of Pizza Express especially as its Uber agents are disreputable."

"I recently discovered a hidden gem in this restaurant. The staff and owners were incredibly friendly and provided a welcoming atmosphere. The food was not only delicious but also reasonably priced. The female owner did a fantastic job pairing the dishes with the perfect wine, and they also had a great selection of beers. On Thursday evenings, they host a fantastic jazz club with talented musicians and special guest artists. Plus, the chairs were super comfortable. Overall, a wonderful experience!"

"This is the 2nd time I have visited The Duke and the experience this time was not as good. Unfortunately, the waiting staff seemed very disorganised and were not very attentive when taking the order. The cutlery, serviettes were not brought out all at once but they kept coming backwards and forwards. One of the party had the gnocchi and when the waiter asked if we wanted anything else, ie, sauces, etc, they requested some parmesan cheese. The waiter returned to say that we could have parmesan but there would be an extra charge of £1 ! I have never in all the times I have visited restaurants have been asked to pay extra for parmesan cheese. We then asked to speak to the manager, who came over and said she would have to speak to the chef as she was a temporary manager. I am not sure what that had to do with making a decision on whether or not we had to pay for the parmesan. I pointed out that a member of the party was having the fish chips but had requested at the time of ordering that they did not want the mushy peas or tartare sauce. We would certainly not have expected to receive a reduction in the price ! The temporary manager then said she did not want to argue about it so would bring a portion of parmesan for no extra cost. I was a bit annoyed as there should have not been any argument at all as surely a small grating of parmesan should be free anyway, or the price incorporated in the cost of the meal !"

"Having eaten here for a number of years I can say hand on heart I have never ordered anything that I haven’t enjoyed thoroughly and I can be a fussy eater (just ask the chef at Smiths). Today we stopped for brunch and again was not let down . The scrambled eggs were creamy and the bacon cooked to perfection , we had coffees but also had a couple of mixed juices now I’m far from a fruit lover but the orange carrot and ginger definitely has a zing to it that will make me order it again . The staff are always helpful and the chef and owner Richard deserve praise for consistently producing great food for all tastes"

"my wife and I have recently become vegan (8Monates) for baby allergies. we came here last year and wanted to return so that we are very happy to see some vegan options on the menu. the vegan burger was very delicious, the sweet potato with sweet chili was also beautiful. our older children still eat meat when they choose, the child menu had good variations and the chickenburger was the right hugging on a beautiful bungalow with chips and salat the fish fingers were very posh in the did with bohnen and chips. excellent portion size on all four dressed. the atmosphere is beautiful and relaxed and the service was brilliant and friendly, without being intrusive. we were here 2 years on the tanne and every time we were very happy with everything."

"Ordered a takeaway of special fried rice special chow mein and crispy beef plus chips. Delivery was pretty quick, nowhere near as long as estimated and delivery woman was friendly and cheerful. I won't give my opinion of the crispy shredded beef as it is my wife that likes it.To me it could be crispy shoelaces or twigs you would not know the difference .But that seems to be the same in other takeaways Now the fried rice and noodles meals. There was a good portion of beef pork chicken prawns in both the fried rice and the noodles but both the rice and noodles were over cooked in fact the rice was like rice pudding, there were no where near enough noodles and neither meals had any taste apart from the flavour of the pork so it was what would have been a lovely meal if the rice and noodles had not been overcooked and it had had some sort of flavour.Oh and the chips were undercooked. All in all a waste of about £25.00 tip as most of it ended up in the bin . Needless to say we won't be eating from there again."

"My girlfriend and I were looking for a place for breakfast. We had walked by this place the day before and when walking to the seafront went past it again. We were hungry so decided to try it out. Good god the big breakfast bap was unbelievable. A warm french baguette filled to the brim with perfectly cooked bacon, beautiful sausages, and a generous portion of two simply lovely, creamy eggs. The glacier cherry on top? The unexpected offering of gorgeous fried onions as well a plethora of sauces to satisfy anyone. You know when the kitchen is a 2x2 meter square, you are in for a treat, and this certainly was no exception. The staff were friendly and polite as well. Take a bow!"

"This tearoom serves freshly prepared food and delicious cakes. We ordered a range of light lunches; the ploughman's came with a very generous selection of 3 cheeses, but the crumb ends of a packet of crisps which was disappointing, the egg mayo baguette was perfectly adequate, the toasted tomato and mozzarella panini was good, but the mushroom quiche was mostly egg with just a few mushrooms sprinkled over the top. It was disappointing to see sauce sachets, and of a dubious brand.. Partly because of the awful single use plastics, partly because it's so often a bad sign when cafés don't feel it's worth providing a quality ketchup and mayo. We then ordered some cakes, and these were all good without exception! 4 stars for freshness and nearly very good, but for me would need to get rid of sauce sachets, ends of crisp packets, and take a little more care in sourcing tomatoes and salad ingredients with actual flavour to get top marks!"

"As a former manager of Peking Garden and a frequent diner at Double Dragon, I can confidently say that the dining experience was exceptional. The food was well-flavored and beautifully presented, with each dish perfectly cooked and melting in my mouth. While there was a minor issue with the service being a bit slow and some miscommunication, overall it was a great experience and a lovely evening."

"The small little seafood restaurant is nestled in into the bustling George street of Hastings old town. The restaurant has ample seating both inside and out when the weather is good. There’s lots of little snuggly areas for a more private setting or you can choose to join others at larger tables. Staff are experienced and friendly and happy to advise on food choices. Food arrived timely and hot. We opted for the chowder and squid. The chowder was a decent sized portion and came stocked with plenty of seafood. The squid, which was a special was beautifully cooked. Not at all rubbery which is always a sign of being overlooked. The side salad appeared fresh and crisp. Mains were mussels which again was a decent sized portion. It came with choices of bread or fries however we opted for bred. This was soft and fresh and a large bowl was provided to store the discarded shells. Out of the whole mussels portion, only 2 were closed which shows the freshness of the food. We didn’t opt for puddings but there appeared to be a good varied choice. We finished with coffee and had a very enjoyable evening. Overall, always a great choice of seafood available, as well as steaks on offer. 5* to both the food and staff m. Definitely one to put on the returns list."

"Hidden down a side street, you probably wouldn't even know it was there unless you passed it or found it on Google maps like I did. It's a small bar/restaurant that also has accommodation. It has a quite traditional rustic interior with polished wooden floors...and big old oak tables the name didn't really seem to fit what you find inside at all actually. From the photos on the walls the building has historic originals as a pub and hotel, so they should probably embrace that as it would be a better fit. We had several drink and food and were mostly quite impressed. My wife had the Vegan tagine, which she absolutely loved, I had the Rib Eye steak, which was perfectly cooked and my son had a pizza, which wasn't on the evening menu (just the lunch menu) so it was really good of them to do that for him. The service was fast, attentive and the food came quite quickly. There were a couple of down points that knock down the rating a star. Firstly my Portobello mushroom was almost completely raw and totally inedible, must have just been flashed in a pan for seconds. Secondly, the drinks were very expensive at nearly a pint and over for a soft drink."

"I am continuously impressed by this restaurant. It has everything you could want in the morning: excellent flat white coffee, a relaxed atmosphere, and friendly staff. I tried the Korean hash and it completely exceeded my expectations. The perfect level of spice, delicious sauce, and tender beef that fell apart easily, all complemented by the onions. It was possibly the best breakfast I've ever had. My wife had the full English breakfast, with homemade hash browns that were crispy and light, flavorful farmyard sausage, sweet cherry tomatoes, and thick crispy bacon. I highly recommend this place, it's just what the doctor ordered!"

"We have been frequenting this charming cafe for the past year, and even relied on their takeout meals during the lockdown. We were thrilled when we found out they were open for lunch this Saturday, so we ordered our favorite 'Sunshine Schnitzels' with roast potatoes, which were as tasty as ever. Just as we were about to leave, it started raining, so we decided to stay for dessert. The brandy banana caramel waffle was outstanding, with a generous splash of brandy, and my partner enjoyed the honey pancakes. In a time where many restaurants are closing or require advanced reservations, it was refreshing to be warmly welcomed with no fuss. The menu offers plenty of choices at very reasonable prices, making it easy to indulge in dessert. We will definitely be visiting this hidden gem more often, as it truly deserves our patronage. Plus, we can't wait to try the homemade coffee cake next time!"

"I was here with a friend on Friday night for dinner. fatima and their employees gave excellent customer service, very attentive and friendly, spend time chatting with us and falling over themselves to ensure that we were comfortable and that we would be happy. with the food. my friend and I could not decide completely about appetizers so fatima made us a beautiful plate of a selection of appetizers, the miniature versions of one of the main courses (filo baked with cheese so delicious there were wee leaves filled with rice, sweetsamosas, bon mix and salat underneath. image included! the plate was beautifully presented and we didn't have to wait long until it arrives. I ordered an sage and mincetee that was served in a Moroccan style silver teekanne with a handle. the aesthetic in general, at fatima is rich and authentic, and the basement section feels especially as if in morrocco itself. long couches, many kisses, pictures of morrocco on the wall. it is a visual treatment and very comfortable. dogs are also allowed in the restaurant, which is beautiful. the place has a warm feeling, because of the welcome and receiving nature of fatima and their personal. for my main course I have the carrot and chickpea tagine (also pictured) that was delicious. it was suitable thick enough in consistency, and the aromen worked so well together. it was served in a ton bowl as you can see, add to total experience. we had puddings, but they were eaten before I had the chance to look at the photography! rose flavored cookies created a light, airy and fragrant experience that I had not experienced before and the baklava was a dream! after that I had a coffee that was presented as well as the rest of the meal. I cannot blame fatimas and their beautiful selection of authentic Moroccan foods. I was amazed at how fast she was in the position to cook the food we had and I am very pleased to visit again to try other parts of the menu! highly recommended if she dine after an authentic experience and really delicious and creatiw presented and are Pattiserie items!"

"Needs better ketchup! That and curry sauce are the two condiments essential to a good supper. Good choice of food. See menu The staff were nice although seems they were a bit bored and grumpy , served quickly and food arrived within 10 minutes. Fish was very good. Batter crispy and light. Bottom of fish a little soggy but was ok. The sausages are really bad quality. Looked like a Richmond sausge pale and tasted horrible. Again the batter was great just couldnt eat it. It's either two small battered pale nasty ones or a large which I havnt tried. Chips were nice but they could be better. Choice of cold drinks over £2 a can. Coffee is decent. Food is a reasonable price. Small space but we were very happy sitting inside. If it was busier I think it would be uncomfortable eith the main seating area having chairs back to back so close. I realise making the best of the space. They do usualy have outside seating. In a great spot by sea front opposite family entertainment. We have been here before and it was much better so I'm not sure what's changed. Shame but I'd return for the fish and id try the larger herby sausage."

"Disappointed. My usual Chinese is closed so we ordered from here as they take payment online. Chicken balls worst I’ve had. The chicken had funny smell (not off but cheap processed smell) and was tough to chew. The prawn crackers tasted days old. The chow mein and special rice were very nice. It was hot but I suspect the chicken balls may be reheated to be that tough. Ordered 2 portions of chicken balls between 3 of us and they mostly went in the bin. Service: Take out Meal type: Dinner Price per person: £20–30"

"It is a great place to stop, sit in the sun on your walk, and have a coffee or a cold drink. There is a limited array of pastries available, however, we chose a Brownie which was excellent t with our coffee."
