"Had visited on Fri evening a few weeks ago and all was ok so have given 2 extra stars for this visit that deserved non. Monday lunch time and place was deserted but lady said they were serving food. 4 adults inc 2 with severe learning difficulties. Refused to take food order until we were served drinks ... 2 pots of tea and soft drinks. 1 small pot of tea half full and even smaller water jug.. total liquid barely filled the 2 small cups .. tea cups and pots were badly stained Steak and chicken sandwiches with fries ordered when we were eventually allowed to order. (Probably about 15mins into visit) Lady who took order sat behind bar eating crisps and chatting to a friend while we waited another 30 mins getting hypothermia as pub was freezing. I approached bar to ask where food was ...the crisp eating lady who served us said she was manageress .. at same time a gent appeared from kitchen playing with phone said it was thick chicken pieces and would take a while( even full chicken breasts would take less time) I felt like I had walked into a domestic arguement between Mr&Mrs and wasn't prepared to be lied to so offered to pay for the drinks we had and leave the food Blonde haired crisp eating supposed manager flew into a rage refused payment and screamed at us to leave and never come back following us to the door with more shouting. No wonder the place was empty if this is how they treat customers. As said stars above for previous visit where the food was OK and staff were excellent on a busy Friday evening."

"This place has a large restaurant area, nicely set up, and a smaller pub area to the side with sofas. The bar staff were pleasant and well organised and the ale was well kept. The menu has an Italian bias and I think that the manager is from that country. When I asked if the meat balls were made in house, he said Of course they are! These were served as a starter they were small and in a tasty, gently spicy tomato sauce. My main course was sea bass which was a very generous plate with two fillets very nicely cooked along with all the trimmings. Service was considerate and very good, and the price reasonable for the quality of food."

"Decided on a chippy lunch so had to be Frydays. We both had puddings which you could tell were fresh and not sat in the steamer for too long and we both had chips. I had a small portion and the other half had a...medium portion. Wow they were big portions so the mind boggles at how many you’d get in a large portion. Maybe next time we’ll get a large between us. Chips were thinner than you’d normally expect from a chippy but actually were lovely. I was tempted by the cakes that we were winking at me and opted for the chocolate brownie. Have to say it’s probably one of the best I’ve ever had."

"After a long Sunday walk we often go for a pub lunch. Today we visited the Royal and ordered Sunday beef roast. Service was quick (lot longer for dessert. I'm a fussy eater but this roast has to be the best we have ever had anywhere! Lots of beef and it was so tender. Tried to fit in chocolate tart ...it too was so yummy...and huge! Don't often go back to same place but will definitely revisit the Royal. Staff very pleasant too. If I had to give a negative it's that we booked a table..arrived on time but no table was reserved for us (though other tables had reserved). We were shown to table in back bar in far corner...very dark and miserable until we saw a better table had come free and asked for that. Next time hoping a table will be reserved for us!"
"We had a wonderful Mother's Day lunch at The Queen's. The food, ambiance, and service were all fantastic. The menu has been recently refreshed and the braised ox cheek and Bailey's creme brulee were particularly exceptional. Thank you for making our day memorable."

"One word sums up my first visit on Saturday evening awful . We was booked in for a small birthday dinner, when we arrived we was taken to the function room upstairs which was very cold with no heating on when we arrived, we asked for the heating to be turned on which took 45 mins for the room to warm up, I asked for a pint of pepsi when we arrived as I was designated driver for the evening this request was ignored and we had to ask again 20 mins later, the rest of the party had brought in drinks as the venue has no alcohol licence. The venue is run down and clearly some areas need some repairs which does not give a great impression. Food was served, I had garlic mushrooms for a starter and could not taste any garlic and then asked for a steak as I don 't eat very spicy food, I was told they don 't have steak, I then ordered a mushroom omelette and chips, the omelette was fine, chips where clearly frozen chips brought in bulk and tasteless, the food standard would be what I would expect from a typical cheap cafe in a town centre market not from a restaurant. When the meal ended the waiter accidentally dropoed some cutlery which landed on my white top (brought that day brand new for our evening out) The waiter then said it was my fault and that I was drunk, given I was driving and only had 2 glasses of Pepsi, I find that totally unacceptable and totally unprofessional, we didn 't even get a sorry from the waiter. My top is now stained and even after using vanish stain remover and washing there is still a faint stain. The service was poor, unprofessional, the food was not of a acceptable standard for a restaurant and the decor was tatty and in need of repairs. I didn 't say anything or complain on our visit as I felt it would of ended the evening badly and this was my friend 's birthday meal out so I didn 't want to cause a scene as the night was a celebration of her birthday and not about me. Very disappointed with this restaurant and will never return."

"I and my husband went for dinner .Restaurant section was empty . When I order my drink sprite waitress asked me pint or half and I realised that is not in the bottle so I wanted to change bottle of diet coke. After that strangely she was questioning that why I wanted bottle not the other option . Anyway then we ordered 2 starters , 2 mains and 1 puding. As a starter we both ordered the soup and it was ok. And the main course I had the fish which is disappointing. It was too tough , just boiled fish not even seasoned . It comes with raw onion ,some black olives, 1 bigh dried tomato and 1 egg. And again chef didn’t even put a pinch of salt in it. I finished the fish because I was so hungry and I didn’t want to waste it. Never come back again ."

"Went for a day out in the Peaks and stopped at this pub for some lunch. It was very busy because it was a weekend and the sun was shining I was happy to see Cruz Campo on tap, and my wife had a cider that she liked but I can't remember what it was! The fella behind the bar was really friendly and said he'd take our food order into the kitchen as soon as he could because he had a queue. It only took him a few minutes to get everyone served. I had a lovely spicy pannini with chips and homemade coleslaw and my wife had a massive jacket potato with chilli and cheese which she said was absolutely perfect. Not soggy and bland like you seem to get at most pubs and not tight with the butter and fillings The food came much quicker than expected with it being absolutely rammed in the pub. The lad who brought it out was also really friendly. Would definitely recommend, and the evening menu looks absolutely banging aswell. We'll come back next time we're out that way. The only little moan is that the gents toilets could do with a bit of improvement."

"If stars were given for effort, these folk would get 5. There are interesting vegan options on the menu, including a homemade cheese from cashews, I was told, and a seitan burger. The 'cheese ' was actually really nice, a bit like Ardennes pate. However, the stuff that came with everything was a bit basic. Fine, but basic. Also, it was really loud in there so we couldn 't hear what anyone was saying! Not sure I 'd go back but, equally, I wouldn 't suggest anyone avoid it."

"I bought two cakes which were on display and looked quite tempting. I bought them as locally baked items instead of buying supermarket cakes. One was a ginger parkin the other a lemon drizzle. Both were dreadful. The ginger Parkin had some trace of cinnamon but little more in the way of flavour. The lemon drizzle had a smear of inferior lemon curd on top of a substandard Madeira. No other indication of lemon. Both cakes gave the impression of being part their sell by date. I may have tasted poorer quality cakes. If so I don’t remember when."

"The first thing that disappointed me was the fact that they refuse to take bookings and you know what it’s like when you want to be sure that you have a table when you get to a pub.So, we held our breath and just hoped.Luckily we got a table.I’ve heard all the reasons before for this but it just does not make any financial sense at all.How many people decided to give it a miss I wonder.By 7.30 there were about ten tables free……when we wanted to book. The food is ok and that’s all I can say really, other than the pie of the day, which was great. The staff are very friendly and the landlord, who kept calling me boss, was very pleasant. Don’t get me wrong, you will not be disappointed unless you are happy to pay £20 for average fish and chips."
