"This was a fantastic short break, set in beautiful surroundings, a very good sized car park, lots of outside seating, a large area down near the car park, with plenty of bench seating/tables. A large area where children can play ball games(bring your own ball? i didn't ask if they had any). The hosts Sammy and Daz were truly welcoming and friendly, and managed all so well. I absolutely loved the food got slightly addicted to the chunky chips and fishcakes! delicious. All of the staff were kind pleasant and attentive without being overly intrusive. The accommodation was lovely, my room had a double bed and i could look out of the window whilst sitting comfortably in my bed with a cup of tea, which both the tea and coffee were of good quality, I'm sure the bed linen was Egyptian cotton, best nights sleep in ages! There was a lovely well thought out dressing table with a mirror , enough drawers and a cupboard to hang clothes. A lovely on suite bathroom with a good shower. All very clean and kept well by house keeping. On the dresser there was an information folder with wifi codes and local attractions. The pub is above the rooms but at no time did i notice any loud noises. the pub part has several rooms dining area cubby and bar area, again all clean lovely and inviting, the locals were also very friendly. there is a small town just down the road and a bit further a few bigger shops next and similar. I mostly went for rest relaxation and recuperation and this was achieved with ease,,, for me it was idyllic I mostly just"

"We came to Buxton to visit friends for the weekend. We had a piece of cake and tea with this establishment yesterday. They informed us at 3pm that the kitchen was closed and they were just serving cakes. We happily accepted this and placed our order. Cakes came but no tea. The waiter did correct this when he realised one of the main parts of our order was missing. We happily accept that mistakes happen. We then returned to this cafe again today as it is central and we just wanted a sandwich and tea. Unfortunately a mistake was made again with the order, one sandwich was not correct out of the 4 we ordered. By the time they had corrected my Mums simple cheese and tomato toastie, the other 3 in our party had finished our sandwiches and my Mum’s drink had gone cold. We did get an apology but this was all. I politely queried how they were going to compensate us for the long delay and mistake. My Mum had to wait an extra 15 minutes for her food and even when it came the actual tomatoes were not even warm. Another lady came to just apologise and made one of the most pathetic and utterly redicious claims I have ever heard in a food establishment. “I made a mistake but you have to understand in the current climate, we are very short staffed and it’s very hard for us all”. They had 4 staff and only 5 tables! I explained I was not satisfied and this was just unacceptable. The waitress then added “We won’t be giving you anything, she has her food now. Sorry but in the current climate it’s just how it is”. Utterly disgraceful service! Her manner was very rude and blaming covid for her inability to read an order and then her inability to talk to us in a reasonable manner when querying the mistake is quite frankly abysmal. When I paid the £35 bill for 2 pots of tea and 4 very mediocre sandwiches, one of which was brought 15 minutes later than the other 3, I simply said; “I was very disappointed by how you handled the situation earlier”. The waitress became very confrontational and rude. I re-itterated how rude she was being. “I’m not rude I’ve worked here for 10 years” was her response. Please don’t waste your time visiting here. This staff member needs customer service training urgently."

"Cod and Cake meets an elite standard by which you can judge all other cafe/restaurants in this area and beyond. This is a family run business. All the staff are always welcoming, very friendly, non intrusive, discreet and always ready to help. The customer service is so professional it looks easy. The move from the former establishment (Frydays) clearly took a huge amount of hard work and dedication and it shows. The premises are extremely clean. Sit downstairs and enjoy the hustle and bustle or upstairs for bigger parties. You can come alone with your book and sit comfortably. I have it on good authority that you can now have a glass of wine, beer cider etc with your meal. Great for special occasions as well, lots of tables upstairs. The atmosphere is lovely as is the ambience. I have been several times. The food is absolutely delicious and extremely varied. You can start the day with a fresh coffee and tea cake. At lunch time you can have a lovely freshly cooked plate of fish and chips (tartare sauce and lemon) or a freshly baked quiche and salad for example. There is something for all tastes and diets. Trained barista’s on hand to make coffee, and some of the cakes are freshly made by the owner, as are some of the pastries etc to finish your meal or have later on. I suppose every comprehensive review should invoke a drawback, so I will say the stairs leading to the upstairs restaurant are a little steep but there’s a hand rail and it is only a short flight. The is no restricted access to this lovely enterprise now since the bridge re opened and consequently the main road. I would advise all to visit and take in the lovely scenery in Whaley Bridge also."
