"First time we have visited this restaurant (surprisingly, as it is on our doorstep) and were impressed with the overall standard. We tried to book for the same evening as it was for both a birthday and anniversary meal (mentioned, in passing, to the lady.. more of this later), but were unlucky as they were fully booked for that night and the following one. Eventually booked for the Saturday night. On arrival we were welcomed by the same lady, who obviously remembered us, showed us to our table and then went through the menu options (in very good English) for us. We did not have a starter and there was a bit of delay before our meals arrived but we had aperitifs and side dishes to entertain us. Considering that the food had to be cooked from scratch, we did not think that a delay was unreasonable. The main courses, a steak dish and a pork knuckle were very well cooked, presented beautifully and very tasty. Choice of wines to accompany the meal was extensive and not overly expensive for a restaurant of this type. The dessert, as served, was an experience of it’s own and an unexpected surprise! We both had a chocolate half sphere filled with kamok flavoured mousse, together with a serving of exotic fruit sorbet accompanied by slices of fresh strawberry and mandarin segments. The “icing on the cake” (see paragraph two) was that the reasons for the meal had not been forgotten and each sorbet serving came complete with a lighted candle and was served on plates decorated with “Joyeux Anniversaire”. An unexpected and much appreciated touch! All in all, the setting, reasonable pricing, together with the excellent and professional service from all the friendly staff made this an evening not to be forgotten."
