"Before writing I checked my notes with my wife. She reminded me that our dinner at the Wirtshaus was the best meal we had in Germany during our lazy meander from Baden Baden to Lubeck. Why? Our hotel heartily recommended Wirthaus and when we followed their advice we were not disappointed. Start with the setting. It was a lovely balmy summer evening; we were able to sit outside. When we arrived the restaurant was packed with locals. Some had already tucked into dinner, others were having beers and wine, laughing and talking. We had to wait inside until a table was freed and that gave us a chance to talk with Simon the owner. The restaurant site is old but he is the new owner with a new crew and new concepts. He has created a rich selection of Bavarian-Schleswig Holstein cuisine. Using fresh local ingredients, his young kitchen crew turns out remarkable fare. I chose a schweiner ruckensteak with extraordinary crisp fries. My wife chose weiner schnitzel with speck back kartoffelen and gurken salat. We could not believe the delicious giant size portions. As Simon the owner later explained, his clients like to eat. We protested; we also cleaned our plates. His open wine list is attractive and since I know little about German wines he invited me to taste before ordering. We started with a blaufrankish St. Laurent Trocken, followed by an excellent grauburgunder. Service was exceptional: present but discreet, we had time to savour and enjoy. Before we left we asked Simon where he wanted to take his restaurant and how he wants to be seen in the community. A big man with an easy smile, he is committed to exceptional quality and service. When the kitchen closes down for the night he makes sure that quality left overs go to a municipal service that feeds the less fortunate. He nodded, "We must help each other." Some day we will return to Lubeck with our family and our grandchildren and we will have dinner at Simon's and introduce them to an exceptional man so we can enjoy a remarkable meal. Wirthaus is also huge value for money. Please note this review does not do Simon's restaurant justice. They are better, much better, than what I have tried to share. Whitebeard83"

Flambierte Chorizo in Tomatensauce, gegrillter Manchego in Orangensauce etc.

"Again, I would like to introduce a restaurant from Lübeck, which is more likely to be arranged in the direction of a snack than a restaurant, but I was able to enjoy it again. The name is of course a program for the potato store located directly on the upper cross with a view of the old salt store. Originally offered primarily in Turkish locals as “Kumpir”, those with different components and sauces have already set foot in Germany for a long time. Since November 2016, the “potato store” has been adapting this food with various tasteful combinations. L-shaped rows around the treses where the selectable ingredients can be seen and the potatoes are also prepared, about a dozen tables in the interior of the brick. Outside areas are also available. If you don't find any space, you can also comfortably take the dishes packed in a box and enjoy a quiet place at the Obertrave. In the restaurant itself, however, service takes place at the table. Since my first visit in October 2017, I have visited the “potato store” several times, and I have often noticed the out-of-home offer, as the kiln potatoes hold up to their own 4 walls and then simply have to be brought to operating temperature again in their own oven. The consistently young staff acts sympathetic and, after the repeated visits, there is often a nice conversation during the preparation period. However, in the case of a pungent restaurant, the stress can sometimes become a bit more rare and the communication can become a bit more rare, which reduces the choice of stars a little bit. But now finally to the poodle core: the kiln potatoes. The tubers in the oven are softly cooked with a bowl (the absolutely edible bowl remains with it for my personal pleasure too, because I find it also delicious: The soft “potato crumb” is then mixed with butter or margarine as well as cheese, which makes it very creamy and preserves it from a fast drying out. Then the torment of the election begins at the “cover”. Both omnivores and vegetarians are absolutely fertile here. 12 fixed standard combinations of different taste orientations include the attached menu, which is still up to date (only the prices have increased by about €1-1.4, but of course you can always combine your potato crown yourself from the numerous ingredients and sauces.
