"My husband booked this idyllic cottage for our Valentine 's meal. We were made immediately welcome and offered drinks in the cosy bar. I met the resident dog and although I don 't usually 'do ' dogs he was absolutely adorable. The menu was a little limited with four mains, one meat, one chicken, one fish and one vegetarian option, however all sounded equally as tempting.Service was exceptional, we were served quickly and efficiently by the owners, who were very attentive and yet not overly obtrusive. We were seated in the restaurant, by a window which overlooked the floodlit gardens. Our table was decorated with red flowers and candlelit which I thought was nice. We were the only people in the restaurant, which made it feel like my husband had booked the whole place especially for me. However, it was hard to understand why this was so, given the quality of the venue and the food.Starters were excellent, the main was very good, with the best carrots I have every tasted (apparently simply glazed in butter). Only minor gripe would be that the desserts were not quite up to the same standard as the other two courses, but this in no way detracted from what was a very special meal.Prices were about what you would expect for a special occasion, but not something you would perhaps choose to pay everyday. All in all I would thoroughly recommend the restaurant and would quite happily return. The owners were keen to let us know that they serve Pimms on the lawn in the summer and this sounds very tempting. My advice is to give this a go, make an evening of it and enjoy both the hospitality of the owners, the overall excellent cuisine and the intimate atmosphere. Enjoy!"

"After a long and rather sweaty walk around the hills in the blistering heat, we made a stop at St Ann 's Well. I had researched it beforehand, with their own words on their website stating: We are 100% Vegetarian and offer a range of Vegan options . Emphasis on 'range '. We looked at the board, which had scribbly writing on it and things messily crossed out... The only vegan savoury option was an onion bhaji, of all things?! I asked if they offered sandwiches, baguettes, jacket potatoes or anything like that, and the miserable woman serving just said there 's the menu . Talk about service... The coffee was served in horrible disposable cups (the ones that go to landfil). There were vats of tomato ketchup and mayo sitting on a plastic table cloth. There were sheets of A4 stuck all over the walls with various things the owner had obviously made and printed, including something about comparing face masks with IQ. Know your audience for such a wonderful location, they haven 't used the space very well, they 're not offering much and it just left us feeling depressed. We went to sit down and realised they had no sun shade brollies, so quickly ate and left. What a misery. My suggestions if the sun is shining and it 's a weekend, you should know to expect more visitors, so have more food options. If you are going to claim you have a range of vegan options , make sure you actually do. Serve tea and coffee in pots and cups with saucers most vegetarians and vegans care for the environment so don 't like your throw away cups. Try to create a memorable experience for your guests, not one that leaves them feeling deflated."
