Montreux, nestled on Lake Geneva's shores, offers stunning landscapes and a rich music scene, with local meals featuring fondue and fresh lake fish specialties like perch fillets.

"We had a terrible experience yesterday. The place was not kept in a good condition. Light was out. The place was dimmed and not in a good way. We ordered hotpot and had to wait for 40 minutes. Finally, the soup and the frozen meat came out. All low quality. The chicken was cooked sever (instead of freshly cooked in hot pot). The smell was terrible. I am confident that the chicken is just going bad, so they cooked it to cover the bad condition. At the end we went away and paid 100 euros for what they brought out without eating. We just wanted to leave and didn't spend a minute longer. 100 Euro was for 2 small bottles of beer 1 large bottle of water (water glasses are wet) 3 plates frozen meat and the chicken 2 plates vegetables I saw another Chinese family returned a meal and also went with dissatisfaction. I should have left when I saw that. That was our mistake. The lady said they only have 1 person in the kitchen. I think the whole place was by man (coking), woman (on orders)"

"La Terrace du Petit Palais is one of our regular lunch spots if we have a family gathering in or near Montreux. The service is always professional and usually pleasant. The food is always competent and sometimes wonderful. The wine list is decent, they always have our reserved table ready in our preferred spot, and of course the setting under the canopy at lakes edge is lovely. So it is an easy place to return to.Prices are what you would expect for a decent restaurant attached to a major hotel (the Fairmont Montreux Palace) in Switzerland. Clientele varies, as is the case everywhere in multi-cultural Montreux, so ask if someone is having a large children's birthday party before confirming a quiet lunch à deux. In general weekend lunches are a mix of the very young and the rather older. But weekday lunches are usually a more tranquil affair. And the restaurant is wonderfully placed to reward a healthily paced walk to the Château de Chillon and back.Recommended. (Side note: when it was too warm to sit outside on the Petit Palais terrace we used to sit in the lovely air-conditioned cafe within the main building of the Hotel. But since they have rebranded that the Montreux Jazz Cafe and darkened the decor we have found that less appealing.)"

"The food was excellent as was the table, however the service......The wait between the starters, 3 cold soups and a cold salmon was very long until the main course arrived which was 2 steak Tartars, one salade Nicoise, a plate of pasta and a fish dish.Service was poor at best despite having 4 people in service in a restaurant far from busy. I did complain to the senior person available, who replied he thought we would be difficult about the service and was waiting. I wonder why it was beyond him to do something about it before i had to complain ? It is a great pity they cannot get the service right in this restaurant, food has always been good, the view fabulous, but the service has always been pot luck, last year it was good, this year, must be different trainees on the job ! They should really consider employing a proper head of restaurant who knows how to serve and run a large restaurant. The restaurant was empty, maybe 7 or 8 tables occupied at maximum....i wonder why as it really does have one of the best views in Montreux and the food is good, well worth the money."

"For my opinion it is the best Club in Montroeux. Very easy to find and reach by bus. Decorated with a style. Very warm welcome. Menager Regis is very helpful and ready to assist in every situation. He fulfilled all our needs to accommodate our company no matter how crowdy was the club. Live music is a plus. Waitress Annie is very kind. Beer always served cold as it deserves. Very clean toilettes. In other words do not miss it."

"decided to try this for our first night in montreux and our first fondue. the tubes look amazing esp at night, we were a bit early, so had a cocktail in the hotel first and then came back for 8.30 clock, we sat immediately. beautiful heart in the tube so that there was not cold beautiful experience there was a large table of approx. 14 or more and we sat right next to him, so it was quite loud, but that didn't really upset us. because it was our first fondue, we did not know what we expected we enjoyed eating, but in other restaurants since then the fondue in the tube is very basic. the bark fondue uses a broth instead of a cheese and the cheese fondue, while very tasty, is served with pieces of really ordinary brot and that is not dried meat, baby potatoes or cornichons, which are served with other fondue in the opposite. all in all there was a good experience because of the situation, but food wise there are really much better experiences to try."

"This place, located close to the station, only has a handful of tables since it caters mostly for the take away trade. The owner told me it's only been open for six months. Their sushi menu is extensive and expensive, but that's Switzerland! Of the...30 ish varieties, I tried eel nigiri (fish a bit dry), sea urchin gukan and flying fish caviare gukan (both perfect). I also had excellent salmon sashimi, the fish had just the right amount of rich, creamy fat and was perfectly cut. Unfortunately I found a hair in the grated daikon, but only after I'd finished everything else. Accidents happen. Seaweed salad was tart and aromatic, and the miso soup a bit bland but refreshing. With complimentary green tea the meal came to CHF42. The owner kept asking me how I'd found the sushi, and was very friendly in a dignified way. They also make various chicken and teriyaki dishes, with some lunch specials around CHF15 20. And they sell china, pot noodles, loose tea, and soft drinks. My average rating may be a little harsh as they might fare better compared strictly to similar Swiss establishments, they certainly try hard for variety."

"$10 enters fee, but you get it back in drinks. the casino is comparable to perryville hollywood casino in havre de grace maryland with not many people who play table games or slots. beautiful restaurants and the back of the casino are the lookout and the way to the lake. do not go for the action for the experience."

"We had a fabulous meal in the old town of Montreux. It was a bit of a hike up the hill but the exercise was well worth it. The staff and patrons made us feel very welcome. The restaurant was also the local drinking hole...for the residents of the old town which made the evening very entertaining. The cheese fondue was exceptional. Thanks to the staff and patrons at cafe Grutli for a memorable evening."

"Back in Montreux and we headed straight for this authentic, excellent value restaurant. We have an apartment here - it is an expensive town. In fact, it rather prides itself on being expensive. So this place is a find!Get over the fact that it is also a betting shop - and that the other customers tend to be a little bit old and definitely local. The lady behind the bar is great - and the food is tasty - almost rustic. I think the owner tries to trick foreign tourists into buying a salad as a starter. For the second time, having agreed to a main course coming with a salad, we were both served salads as starters that we hadn't ordered. Of course, this could be a simple misunderstanding - but I rather like the idea that this is her little trick. The salads are very good and, at 6 Swiss francs for two, must be the cheapest "con" ever! This is the only place where anyone can afford to drink pints in Montreux. We have tried every restaurant in Montreux - this is the only one I look forward to coming back to.I know that many of our friends would not be seen dead here. It just isn't ritzy enough. But please try it just once. It is a very old café and is the sort of place that is being pushed out by big chains. Montreux will be a poorer place when this venerable institution finally closes."

"The main reason to visit restaurant Chez Gaston is the beautiful terrace with view on the lake. Of course we couldn 't resist the opportunity to have lunch in such gorgeous surroundings. The waitress brought our menu very quickly. My boyfriend and I both wanted to...order the plat du jour , some freshly caught fish, which was mentioned on a separate menu card. Sadly the waitress informed us that the plat du jour had already sold out. At a quarter before one o ' clock! I could hardly believe it! When asked if the fish would be substituted by another dish, she said no. Why advertise this plat du jour if it is already sold out? We felt mislead. Alter this disappointment I ordered a simple risotto and my boyfriend a pasta dish. I have to be honest: both dishes were mediocre at best. My risotto was very bland tasting. Sure the terrace and the view are lovely, but the food is really not worth the money you pay for it."

"It's a bit of a surprise to find a Bulgarian restaurant in Montreux, especially given its French-sounding name, but that's what you get here. A bit rough and ready but the service is friendly (Bulgarian waitresses) and the menu is good enough, although not particularly special. There's nothing especially delicate or subtle about the cooking, but it is Bulgarian after all!Starters include warm goat's cheese salad, soup, Shopska salad and sirene (Bulgarian white cheese), and the mains include a wide range of pizza, pasta, steaks and the signature "Sach", a sort of large mixed grill (meat or vegetarian) on a sizzling plate. There is some local wine, but in addition a selected range of Bulgarian wines too, although none rivals a good Burgundy! Given the pricing (about 40 CHF a bottle), I did expect something better. The whole meal cost us 128 CHF, about twice what I would expect to pay in France for a meal twice as good, but this is Switzerland after all. I just haven't got used to Swiss prices yet...."

"San Luca is a very new restaurant in the premises previously occupied by La Locanda. It’s tucked away up the Ruella de Trait, just off the Avenue de Casino and just before the Casino bus stop if you’re travelling in the direction of Villeneuve. It may not be easy to find (although it’s no more than a five minute walk from the Place du Marché), but it really is a ‘find’!Marco and his friendly staff go out of their way to please you as soon as you enter the door (there are also a few tables for eating outside). On our first visit, we shared the recommended and excellent pasta (filled with scallops) and a fish salad, which was generously supplied with smoked salmon and perch (a speciality on Lake Geneva) and other seafood. We loved the restaurant so much that we returned for a second and third visit during our short stay in Montreux. On the second visit we shared a pizza and a mixed salad; La Locanda had a reputation for serving the best pizzas in town and San Luca fully deserves to inherit the title. The restaurant serves wine by the glass, with some in 50cl bottles and others in the usual 75cl bottles. We tried both the Mavum red and white wines from the Venice area and they were excellent. Above all, eating and drinking at the San Luca is much better value for money than dining by the lake. If you visit Montreux, have your first meal at San Luca; if you do, you may not want to eat anywhere else."
