"Having visited Dunsley Hall on several previous occasions for Afternoon Tea and being very pleased with the standard of the teas provided, this was my first time as a coeliac requiring the a Gluten Free Afternoon Tea option which is offered by the Hotel. It was VERY disappointing. Bread on the sandwiches was not great. The cakes were all shop bought i.e 1 shortbread biscuit, 1 Mrs Crimbles Chocolate coated macaroon, 1 petit frozen chocolate eclair and 1 frozen mini chocolate coated ring doughnut, The plain scone possibly the only homemade item of the sweet items) was tasteless rubbery in texture and the cream Jam accompaniments made little improvement. In short, the gluten free tea was very disappointing and poor value for money. I would like to say that my companions had better luck with their regular teas but unfortunately neither were they to the usual standard. The Panacotta was VERY firm and not pleasant to eat and very much doubt it had been made that day, and again, their scones were not to the usual standard. Perhaps the fact that we visited on a Monday afternoon only one other table of customers who were leaving as we arrived) rather than on a weekend may have had some bearing on the quality, but this wasn 't an impromptu visit, it had been pre-booked a couple of weeks earlier as a birthday celebration, so really no excuse for being served below par food. The serving staff were very pleasant but were also being required to attend to a large private event in the Conservatory and thus were not as readily attentive as on previous visits. The hotel itself is a lovely place with beautiful gardens but will we go for Afternoon Tea again?Probably not."

"If I had looked at the reviews more closely I probably would not have booked. Inconsistency seems to feature a lot. We had attended the launch of their Butler Gin a few weeks ago which was great evening and as we had not dined in the Granary for over 15 years following a poor meal, we decided to give it another go. I booked for a Saturday evening dinner to take Australian friends for a special meal. We were disappointed. Worryingly we were the only guests, but put that down to bestival being held in the park that weekend. This of course did not help the ambience and the place did feel a little tired. The staff were friendly and welcoming. We ordered some olives with our drinks which arrived with our starters, clearly out of a cash and carry jar with stripes of peppers and sweet onions in brine. Not what we expected of a high end restaurant. The starters sounded promising but were disappointing in taste. The mains were better, especially the sea bream with linguine which was excellent. The tuna on the other hand was over charred and over cooked. Desserts were ok, the millefeuille was sloppy and the 'artisan ' cheese biscuits were not artisan but out of the Waitrose essential range. The coffee was undrinkable and when I complained about this it was taken off the bill. The waitress said she knew it was not good as they were having difficulty with a new coffee machine! Well don 't serve it then! The wine was good. Overall a very disappointing experience and as much as I would like to support this local restaurant to us we won 't be back. Sorry The Granary but you need to get the basics right."

"Really looked forward to attending for the first time for a nice meal before the footy game. We had booked week before, and called to amend our booking. The first call, filled me with little confidence my booking had been amended. As I had not had an email confirmation, I tried to make contact on various numbers and even left voicemails and contacted on socials. Still no reply! We arrived, knowing we would have to chance our amendment. Walked to the bar, to be stood waiting while others were served after pulling up after me. To start with, you could not hear yourself think never mind being able to sit down and have a meal. We had reserved a table for a meal, paying for the reservation may I add to be told to sit where ever, although there was not an adequate place to sit and enjoy a meal. There were 4 members of staff behind the bar, all dealing with the same issue around the 1 till. We decide to venture out the back to be able to hear, not where you would want to sit to eat a meal (personally). The only table available to be able to eat at was wet and sticky, I asked for a cloth to clean this myself to be told no I couldn't have one. We had a drink while we had waited for our other guests, we drank this so quick and told our guests to not bother attending and we would go somewhere else. We drank our drink so quick and left without getting our remaining deposit. It may have just been an off chance as other reviews suggest otherwise. After my first impression had been damaged, I will not entertain in trying again!"
