"If I had looked at the reviews more closely I probably would not have booked. Inconsistency seems to feature a lot. We had attended the launch of their Butler Gin a few weeks ago which was great evening and as we had not dined in the Granary for over 15 years following a poor meal, we decided to give it another go. I booked for a Saturday evening dinner to take Australian friends for a special meal. We were disappointed. Worryingly we were the only guests, but put that down to bestival being held in the park that weekend. This of course did not help the ambience and the place did feel a little tired. The staff were friendly and welcoming. We ordered some olives with our drinks which arrived with our starters, clearly out of a cash and carry jar with stripes of peppers and sweet onions in brine. Not what we expected of a high end restaurant. The starters sounded promising but were disappointing in taste. The mains were better, especially the sea bream with linguine which was excellent. The tuna on the other hand was over charred and over cooked. Desserts were ok, the millefeuille was sloppy and the 'artisan ' cheese biscuits were not artisan but out of the Waitrose essential range. The coffee was undrinkable and when I complained about this it was taken off the bill. The waitress said she knew it was not good as they were having difficulty with a new coffee machine! Well don 't serve it then! The wine was good. Overall a very disappointing experience and as much as I would like to support this local restaurant to us we won 't be back. Sorry The Granary but you need to get the basics right."

"Absolutely terrible service, a girl asked me to wait in the restaurant area to be seated, she then approached me and even though the restaurant was empty explained I would need to wait at least 30 minutes for a table as it wasn 't fair that someone who had booked a table had just been seated, there was 4 staff standing doing nothing in the second bar while 1 staff member had approx 8 people at the first bar, the lady who told me she was the manager Bex spoke very loudly and her attitude stunk!! I I asked her if all the empty tables was booked and she said no, but it wasn 't fair for me to be given a seat as someone who had booked a table had jut been seated, The pub is actually very dirty and tbh I 'm glad she asked me to leave when she did there was all flies in the first bar swarming the beer trays!! I had asked for a menu and one of the young ladies was going to give me one but then again Bex came to the rescue and explained we was not allowed to view the menu even though there was several tables available!! I then asked to speak to the manager and a chef was sent out to speak to me, upon seeing the chef I am glad I did not eat from this establishment, he said he was the owner and was also very argumentative and said I had swore at Bex , when I had not, I had just told her I could speak louder than she could, if there was an option to give a 0 rating then I would of done just that!! I don 't understand the reasoning behind them having tables and chairs which cannot be used!! Went here when I was younger and it 's gone very downhill, I wonder when the last time it had a hygiene inspection was?"
