"We arrived and sat at our table for about minutes before someone bothered to come and ask us if we’d like something. A man turned up and asked what our order was and we told him we’d actually like some drinks before deciding what...to eat. He took our drinks order and left but nothing came for about another minutes. Eventually a young lady wandered over and we mentioned we’d not had our drinks. She checked and said the man we’d spoken to before was taking food orders not drinks and we had to order (drinks) again. Staff all seemed quite young and it didn’t seem like they were being lazy it seemed more like they just didn’t know what they were meant to be doing. Not the best of starts. The food was bad. Much of it was frozen and not fresh. The calamari starter was dreadful. It was frozen squid rings which had been badly overcooked. The texture was like rubber bands and the only discernible flavour was the cooking oil used to fry it. The surf and turf burger was ‘OK’ (the actual burger part) but nothing special. The king prawns that accompany the burger however, were (again) frozen not fresh and again were horribly overcooked. They had that sloppy, pasty and granular texture that many will be familiar with if you’ve ever eaten overcooked shellfish. This pub advertises itself as some sort of dining experience when the truth is its serving you cheap, second rate food (in this case frozen seafood) rather than sourcing quality ingredients. The whole thing had the feel of homogeneous pre-prepared airline food done on the cheap to maximise profit margins. I can’t recommend this place as somewhere to go and eat it was a big disappointment."

"when it comes to local curry houses, bollywood is my number 1 option. for me and my family it is just a 5-minute drive and we get to enjoy one of the best Indian restaurants in caterham. papadums are always a good starter option and their mango cutney goes a tasty. I like my curry medium with heavy power. the staff in bollywood suggested that I try out the chicken silsila, as it comes with thicker engraving and medium tip. the chicken was tasty, kartoffels were perfectly cooked and their pilaureis is a good combination with this meal. my dad, however, prefers his curry as super hot as he used it from a young age. he went for the lamb silsila and the staff in bollywood was happy to spice up to meet his needs. they have a special Wednesday banquet, where a 5 course set menu is just £11.95 this is a good option because they can choose dishes from their 5 different menus and they can be able to enjoy a starter, main course, next order and dessert. the atmosphere is beautiful and peaceful with melodious Indian music in the background. staff members are always on hand to give them the best experience, and they will be happy to suggest best dishes or combination to try out. overall it was a great experience for me and my family and we will return soon. I have just discovered the kerala crab bhuna on the menu and I am on a mission to try it at the next visit in bollywood. I imagine cracking the bowl could be a creepy job; therefore I want to hear their experience of crab bhuna. Feel free to fall a comment below me!"

"We decided to go for dinner at pizza express Oxted this evening but unsure of what time. I checked the website to see what time they closed and it said 22:30. I called the restaurant to check what was the latest time to place an order for food and they told me 22:15. They said there was no need to book a table as they weren’t busy. We arrived at 21:30 to be greeted by an empty restaurant and all staff staring at us like they’d seen a ghost! A male member of staff then asked “takeaway?” I said “no, I called 20 minutes ago to ask when last orders were and was told 22:15, it is only 21:30” the staff members then all looked at each other shocked and one said “but we’ve cleaned the kitchen!” They spoke amongst themselves for a short time while we stood waiting and then we were told it was fine and to take a seat and they’d get us some food. Obviously this is extremely unwelcoming. I called ahead of time to ensure there was space for us and that we were there in plenty of time to order food so we didn’t get there at the last minute and make everyone wait. We then placed our order quickly. Whilst we were eating our starter, a lady, who Ivan only assume was the manager as she was not wearing uniform, was leant on the counter staring at us while spinning her keys in her hands, she then started wandering around. It was the most unwelcoming experience I have ever had in a restaurant. Perhaps this would have been acceptable if we had arrived 1 minute before they had stopped serving food, however, we checked the time and arrived 45 minutes before they stopped taking orders. This was most unwelcoming, had I not been so tired I would have left and gone elsewhere, but I just wanted to eat dinner and go home. The food was delicious, no problems there. Just the unprofessional welcome of all staff members especially the manager who stood and stared at us while we ate our food which made us feel slightly uncomfortable."

"Disappointing that this pub has fallen so far in terms of general standards; I used to enjoy coming here. The food: The food was below average and when I asked if the burgers on the menu were homemade, the staff member didn't know. We opted for pizzas given how good they used to be from the authentic pizza oven on site, but the food was barely warm and lacking flavour. The ice cream sundae for dessert consisted of two very small scoops of ice cream and a small bit of cream that had been whipped to the point of becoming butter. When a jug of water arrived at the table for us, it had a couple of silverfish in it. The service: The service was pleasant enough on the whole in terms of attitude, but there was no actual service itself. I was told after our food had arrived that I could fetch my own cutlery from a table at the other end of the pub which had cutlery boxes on it; if a customer has to go and get their own cutlery, it would be useful to know this before the food arrives. Both food courses were painfully slow to arrive despite the pub being practically empty. Once i had been presented with our bill, i was completely ignored. I eventually went to find a member of staff so that I could pay, and there were several staff just chatting away amongst themselves. When I explained that I wanted to pay, no one seemed particularly bothered. At no point during our visit did we really feel we were being served and looked after as you would have expected. The pub was the quietest I have seen it could have been the time of year, could just be a sign of the poor standards there. Usually I would have a conversation with the venue about my negative experience before leaving a public review, but in response to other poor reviews, the management have claimed to have addressed some of the same issues that we then experienced, which suggests nothing more than lip service and that they just don't care and haven't fixed anything. It is glaringly obvious for all the wrong reasons that this pub recently changed hands/management and they have a lot of work to do."
