"Afternoon tea for us is a regular occurrence both at home and when travelling. I had not been to Danesfield house for many years and not wishing to travel into London and being completely put off Cliveden by their GBP 7 per head supplement for just using the driveway, Danesfield seemed like a good option. The full afternoon tea was an obvious choice and there is a nice variety of teas to choose, we went with Oolong. When we arrived and met together in the hall there were two young mums with their broods of noisy children, we hoped they would stay there but unfortunately no, they soon followed us into the Orangery. Such a shame to have the ambience of tea on a wet afternoon spoiled by someone else’s children. The sandwiches were a nice selection and the scones absolutely wonderful; light and fluffy, so if we had not been so hungry we could all have probably been happy with just a cream tea and they are happy to bring extra cream when asked. Battenberg cake was super, as was the chocolate choux pastry bun and I enjoyed the macarons, although my husband found them overly sweet. The little fruit tartlets were bland and soggy and could well have gone without and having seen my husband taken a bite and put it aside I didn’t even try the pink angel delight whatever it was. So, a lovely setting for tea, perhaps they should introduce a no children under 14 policy? tea selection is good and scones superb. If I return, I probably would not bother with a full tea and would stick with the cream tea. Service is good helpful and unobtrusive. GBP 30 is expensive for the selection and quality of tea cakes provided, the cream tea in comparison is absolutely excellent value. But I guess the costs reflects the current craze for tea being experienced by the UK."

"On arriving at Grovefield House the grounds are a welcome site and you do feel it is going to be a great experience. The Staff whp served us our welcome drink were pleasant but not very generous with measures and half a glass if that were poured into short wine glasses. The food was then ready to be delivered to the tables. The first course I had was the Leek and Potato soup which was pleasant but I have had better or the same out of a tin. Others around me had the Pate on Toast which was adequate but the toast that was served was so small it was not enough to use the Pate. The fish starter was so small it was nearly not visible so not recommended for the hearty eater. Then came the Main, I had chosen the vegetarian which was inadequately small, bland and not appetising at all. It arrived with pea sized potatoes around the outside and a sprig of rocket. The Chicken main was a little bigger as was the Salmon main but nobody was impressed and were all very disappointed. After the disaster of the first 2 courses we all waited for the Sweet. Unfortunately the majority had gone for the Brule it arrived in a very small ramekin with a sweet basket and 2 Yes 2 rasberries. The Brule was a total disaster, the topping was totally made up of Salt it was a very big disappointment and in fact unpalatable. Complaints were coming from all directions they did replace it with a sorbet but was not even enough to cover the bowl. The tart however was commented on to be pleasant. All in all I would not recommend as this was Overpriced, Unpleasant and a real disappointment. I would not recommend and to be honest you would find a much cheaper pleasant place to eat and party just down the road so Sorry Grovefield House you have lost my vote."
