"This is my first review since escaping from voluntary lock down and I couldn 't disagree more with the previous reviewer Arrived last Sunday for lunch and was hugely pleased with the meal. Excellent Leek and potato soup and particularly pleased with proper butter with the...bread, none of the nasty sweaty plastic packets that you seem to get everywhere Roast lamb fresh lean and tasty Bread and butter pudding. Not the best I have ever had but damned close! Would have been even better with clotted cream but that 's a small point. Chatted with the nice owners (Wendy and Roger) and discovered that fish was a bit of a speciality and fresh supplies were coming in Wednesday. Accordingly returned for a fish treat Plump mussels in a wine and shallots sauce to start nice followed by Grilled Halibut with asparagus and veg. This was a rare treat as Halibut is very hard to find in a pub, unless of course you are in Scotland where in any case it normally turns out to be farmed and to my amazement this wasn 't delicious Finally a creme brulee to finish which of course was also excellent. All rounded off by an excellent bottle of proper French Sauvignon Blanc and cognac and coffee in the bar, a proper civilised meal way above normal pub standards. So what about some criticism? Well I am not your usual customer I always have dog Lucy with me and I am a chain smoker so i 'm definitely in the minority. Firstly smoking is not allowed at the outside tables which is unusual and annoying. There is one table for smokers at the edge of the car park and I was up and down to that throughout the meal. Dog policy is fine though and Lucy was allowed pretty well everywhere. One final note and most people will think this peculiar. The service is too fast! I am very 'old school ' and like to take hours over a meal. Here your food seems to appear almost instantly and the moment you finish, your plate is whisked away and another one appears. Again this would probably suit most people down to the ground. As far as I am concerned it would be excellent if I was at Paddington and the Cornish Riviera was leaving in fifteen minutes but not when I am out for a leisurely meal. None of this is enough to vary my five star review which I give only rarely."

"This is a place that I have driven past thousands of times and I have never thought about going in. However, me and the family had to pinch ourselves over our experience and the Price. For starters Broccoli and Stilton soup with white bread and you could have cheese toasted if you wanted (cheese lovers). Salmon and Lobster fish cakes, for those who are adventurous, nice little kick to them. Pork Belly Wow! Not just joints of pork with 80% fat more like 70% meat 30% fat they were incredible. All plated like we were on master chief. Mains Duo of Lamb, for lamb lovers like myself it’s not very often you go out have lamb and feel you got your moneys worth. Here you do!!!! Tandoori chicken burgers, me and my brother both had these and was so nice you just wanted another, perfect size not stupid and dripping down your fingers. Not once did I have to ask for extra napkins and feel I had the cooking oil in my hands. Sides Mac and Cheese now I love pasta and macaroni, but I always felt that it can be so heavy it could ruin the meal. Not this mac and cheese, the lightest ever with the stringy cheese. Just amazing. Cheese garlic bread not your typical bookers frozen stuff, plenty of cheese and gold orange tone, like how mom would make cheese on toast as a kid. Dirty fries what a portion a meal in itself. Spring onions, cheese in curry sauce. Pudding Sticky toffee pudding light, warm, and delicious, with custard. Staff Friendly, welcoming and easy to talk to. Love the idea that it’s an independent business and clearly shows it with the heart and passion in the food and service. Overall The bill came to £99.95 that’s mad considering everything is homemade. Please visit if you get the chance, you won’t be disappointed"
