"Best food ever. Highly recommended!!! I came to this place on Saturday 8th October with my family and friends for the first time and the experience was so great that I thought I have to share it. The environment is cosy together with lights from the lamps an candles. Oh my God the sofa was amazing, it was so comfortable that you didn't want to move from there. I have never been in restaurant before where the sofa is so good. They have good variety of foods and dishes the vegan dishes are wow). I ordered a cocktail suggested by the manager Justyna and wow, I wanted something sweet and strong and she prepared for me and as she suggested was very very very good. We also tried some of the dishes which I cannot remember the name but the taste and originality. One of my favourite was a vegan one that contained mushrooms and sone tofu with. First time trying it, my family and friends thought so too. We also had some croquettes, cornbread, lamb meatballs, fish with potatoes salad, etc. The staff were very friendly, kind and helpful. We had a funny situation at the beginning where one of the staff members came to ask us if we didn't want to have anything to eat that we said no and she removed all the plates and cutlery from the table. And after that, one of the manager suggested some of the dishes and we decided to try it out and the girl have to put the plates back on the table again. I can't remember her name but So Sorry we had a good laugh together after that). I am from Glasgow and had my first experience in this place and I loved it. I need to come back. Thank you for everything guys!!!!"

"We arrived without a booking, hot from the North Norfolk coast, and of course dressed accordingly but not scruffy. We were earlyish and there was just a couple of tables occupied and a little fuss was made before deciding they had a table for two. The restaurant never got busy whilst we were there. We ordered a couple of drinks whilst looking at the menu and decided, having previously seen their status as a pub of the year finalist that we would have a full meal. We ordered scallops, and my wife a fetta plum tart as starters and some wine for our main course with pan fried duck and monkfish for wifee. The starters arrived and after having killed a wasp with a napkin we really enjoyed both starters and i asked the waitress to remove the dead wasp and thank the chef. I then killed wasp no 2 in another napkin. Our bottle of wine for my duck arrived ok. The mains arrived and my duck tasted and smellled as if it had been smoked heavily! My wifes monkfish seemed good despite it swimming in a large pool of risotto but the large prawns served with it were not cleaned and that finished my wifes excursion with her main! I asked the waitress whether the duck was smoked and she replied no, it is pan fried I then found a largish piece of bacon on the plate and of course that was what was over powering and killing any taste from the duck! I do not, ever, have smoked food, and therefore that was the end of my excursion with my main too! Having killed wasp no 3. I asked for the bill and gave what I believed was polite and constructive criticism to the waitress including about the wine glasses which were way too thick glass and like drinking from a mug. So we left both mains and asked for the bill. The waitresses feed back to the manageress was they didn 't like it so all of the distinct feedback I gave her was wasted and not passed on which was sad! No offer of a reduction on the bill was offered and I did not ask for any, although some sort of gesture for acting as a insect destroyer, and two mostly uneaten mains and thick glass mugs, the half bottle left of the wine might have helped from the £124 bill.. Never again although on a last positive note both waitresses were polite and friendly. Such a shame and I could still taste the thick smoked bacon on the way home, uugh!"

"We ate in on a weekday lunchtime, The food was tasty and the decor was nice but overall everything felt very disorganised. The table we were sat at was really sticky and wonky, couldn’t put any weight on it or or toppled to one side. There was a sign saying “please wait to be seated” but no one came so in the end we just asked if we could sit down. Menus were thrown at us without a single word as we sat down. Food was running low, tried to order something but were told after the fact they were out of mozzarella. Heard two other tables be told they were also out of chicken and another table pork. I ordered a tuna and sweetcorn sandwich but it was more like tuna mayo with sweetcorn thrown on top, not mixed in at all so the sweetcorn was falling out and difficult to eat. It was tasty though. The smoothie I had was also really nice. Food came out quickly which was a plus but the table service was pretty much non existent, the girls in the kitchen were all huddled around eachother making food and no one was really attending to the tables, just dashing back and forth as quickly as possible taking orders and bringing out food. I had to wait for a few minutes at the counter just to ask for an extra set of cutlery as no one noticed me for ages. I don’t think the place would be wheelchair accessible; it was narrow with a pushchair. No disabled toilet or baby change facilities. But another plus was the food was affordable and not too expensive! Didn’t have any cakes but they looked nice."

"I am part of French, so I was quite part of a real pancake in contrast to the American style, so I was thrilled to hear from this place right in the city center and had to try it out. the location is great and the decor is wonderfully unique and quirky. as with some independent sites in central york, it is small and we had to leave our children's car at the door to the opposite. not sure what would happen if another family showed up with a baby (maybe they did it, we sat up, so no way to know that they had a high chair. the vegan menu is separated and big I took a little time to decide what to have! my 5yo had strawberry and blueberry cake with a strawberry milkshake, the latter was massive and he could only drink about half (they do not do the size of a child). I tried to finish it, but it was overly sweet and artificially tasted the result of what seemed drowning erdbeersirup in it. I had the breakfast pancake and it was great. I was sad that I shared with my 8mo when he wanted to rip his share and more! I would definitely have eaten a whole second hearty pancake and had a sweet one for dessert, but the time did not allow as we were due elsewhere (and it would have been quite expensive). I had a lemon ice tea and on order thought £2,75 was a little expensive, but the glass was quite large and I couldn't finish it so well. the staff was nice, the waitress repeated clearly our order back to us, noticed which parts were vegan and said they brought the food, so I felt recognisable that they had taken seriously (the fakon is this is not speck, so it was a simple saying)."

"We recently moved to the area and while larger than the village we came from, the high street is still fairly small compared to other places; so I was so happy to find we have a lovely little independent coffee shop nearby. It is tastefully decorated with the rustic charm that I particularly like, a sort of modern and country fusion if I’m correct. Reminds me a bit of Whole Foods...The staff have always been very friendly and welcoming when we’ve been there and on one occasion where my son didn’t like the unexpected fizz in a fresh apple juice product, they kindly let him replace it for free which I thought was a lovely thing to do.We haven’t had any meals there yet but we’ve had a few outings of great coffees, drinks and cakes which we’ve enjoyed every time. It is small so space is limited especially when they don’t have the curb-side seating in warmer temperatures.Things which would greatly add to the cafe are some allergy specific products. My son in particular has egg, peanut and sesame allergies so there is never a large choice of tea time things he can have out, but we find that some basic butter shortbread or egg-free cookies are always a good compromise for food allergy sufferers, and some simple cartons of fresh unfizzy juice.Still, we love our new, local coffee shop and there will be more visits to come."
