"I grew up in Watlington, having left very many years ago, for one reason and another we decided to return to the village to have our son baptised at the local church. Looking for somewhere to hold a lunch for over 30 of our closest friends and family from all over the country and overseas, I was a little hesitant to check out the Angel, but to have gone anywhere else would have been a terrible mistake! Having seen the great reviews and awards on the Angel website I made contact some months before the event. The whole thing was arranged remotely through contact with Emily, the owner she could not have made things easier, spelling out the options, making recommendations for a local company that could supply me a celebration cake and basically making my every request a reality without any issue at all. For event planning, she is one of the best I have worked with and gave me tremendous peace of mind. On the day everything was seamless and the food was excellent, 31 roast dinners, including vegetarian and vegan options came out within moments of each other, no one was waiting and we all sat down together to generous sized dinners, the same with drinks for a toast. The staff dealt with everything almost invisibly and all our guests bar none commented on how good their meals had been. We took over the middle room of the restaurant for the whole afternoon, and had time and space to socialise after dinner. It really was everything we could have hoped for our special day. Massive thanks to Emily and her team (I'm ashamed it's taken so long to get to writing this review, but I was determined to do it)!"

The food was lovely BUT we arrived for a 7 pm meal didn't even get the menus until nearly 8 o'clock! After complaining, we were seated in the dining room finally ordered our food. Lots of bread later we eventually received our food at 5 to 9! Not my idea of good service.

We had a family meal for 9 with ages ranging from 5-75! It was genuinely the best Sunday roast I have had in a restaurant. Warm welcome, great portions of top quality food. And did a complete gluten free Sunday roast including Yorkshire puddings and stuffing. Very friendly and relaxed service. Highly recommended. View menu

Food was fab. I had sirloin steak, wife had venison we shared Creme Brulee desert. All high quality ingredients(no chemical tasting food in here), good sized portions, beautifully cooked. Staff were great too and ambience seems better since refurbishment. Service can be slowish, waiting for the freshly cooked food, so don't be in a hurry or expect cheap prices. This is quality food service.

Expectation was more than met for our first visit. Warmly welcomed and shown to our table. Generously sized with comfortable dining chairs. Tables are well spaced out. Room is modern in decor and clearly recently renovated with a touch of flair. Food was lovely, nicely presented and cooked to perfection. Obvious talent in the kitchen. Menu has great choice. We ate mains and delicious puds. Loos were exemplary in fittings and hygiene. Easy parking to side and rear. Several dog guests besides ours accepted without fuss. Thank you. We shall return soon.

Well no surprise here, but another amazing night at the angel! 10 year wedding anniversary with Jeremy, child free, and a constant flow of pimms! We shared a charcuterie for starters, the meats absolutely beautiful! For mains I had the dressed crab, and the hubby had a fillet steak. Both extremely happy with our mains, his steak cooked to perfection, and my crab was just perfect! Shared a Bakewell tart for pud, then finished our night off watching the footy in the side bar area! As always, thank you to all the staff, everybody was so lovely and brilliant, the food was 10/10, we look forward to seeing you soon! View menu

The Angel have done it again! First meal after the refurb with the hubby and kids, and 5 stars from all of us! The pub looks absolutely amazing! From the new wallpaper to the baby changing facilities, you guys have smashed it! Now onto the food… anyone who knows me knows I am a sucker for the duck breast, but my oh my I thought I’d change it up a bit this time and go for the fillet of pork… so glad I did! I have quite possibly got a new favourite meal! Hubby had the lobster which he has been raving about all evening, and the kids had their chicken goujons. We shared a chocolate and praline parfait dessert and oh was that the perfect way to end the night! My personal favourite change, is the...

Visited THE Angel at Watlington today for Sunday lunch. Were not disappointed. From the moment we stepped through the door, we were greeted by very friendly staff. It has a lovely relaxed atmosphere was a lovely place to enjoy our lunch. We were looked after by Lauren she did a grand job. When we sat down at our table we noticed it had a slight wobble, before we could even mention it Lauren was there crawled under the table to sort it. Service above beyond. We all had the roast beef which was delicious served with lots of fresh veg which was nice to see, so often now the veg is extra which always annoys me. Lots of lovely gravy which came on the plate with the beef, Yorkshire roast potatoes....

"We had pre-booked a table for 6 people to have lunch at 2:15pm. We arrived on time and were shown to the table, which had only been set for 4 people which meant we had to pull a further 2 chairs up to the table, and had to request a wine list. We ordered a round of drinks for the table which took c. 15 minutes to arrive. We were waiting a considerable amount of time for a food menu. Eventually we called a waiter over to order some food and were told that the kitchen we no longer serving, despite having booked a table for lunch and not being warned of the kitchen closing time. The staff told us to be quick in ordering however took a further 10 minutes to come and take the order. The food eventually came and the waitress didn 't even put the food at the correct place, she merely put them on the table for us to distribute accordingly. When the bill eventually came, we politely requested the *optional service charge was removed from the bill as we did not feel that we had received adequate service to warrant a tip, to which the manager began shouting that it as shocking that we wanted to rightfully remove the tip. He went on to say that the kitchen staff had stayed over time to prepare our food. My question to the owner is this... if your chefs are unwilling to work over their hours, why are you offering a reservation close to closing time whilst your staff are incapable of processing the orders to the kitchens in the correct timescale and working hours. If we were told that the kitchen were closing soon, we would have cooperated with the staff to help them work to their time scales."
