"Sadly quite disappointing. We booked here for our work Christmas meal, only a small party and even pre-ordered hoping it would make it alot easier. There was confusion where we were sitting so we had to change tables but only after we saw our name tags on another table not by the staff. We waited 25 mins to be asked for drinks and an hour for the starters which were only for 2 of the party anyway. This meant for most of us we waited an hour and 20 mins before our main dinner arrived. We entertained ourselves as we after the first order of drinks came we never saw any member of staff til the starters. There were 2 larger tables, 1 not pre ordered, who received their whole meal before we had our deserts who seemed to have staff quite attentive to them which made us feel even worse. The food was delicious and I would give it 5/5 but for your whole party to feel starving and alittle deflated made our work evening out quite miserable. When we asked member of staff how long til our mains, we just replied with they're very busy and that was it. We felt like we were getting told off and felt uncomfortable to approach them again. Even when paying at the end we waited 15 minutes as they kept rushing in and out to clear just 2 tables that were left upstairs, no other customers, we just felt abandoned the entire time. I even got marched back into the restaurant after being told we had not paid enough. To clear we did, we just left a smaller tip then what was on our reciept but the embarrassment was humiliating."

"We usually love coming to Cafe Rouge in Henley, always a treat for us and we are always looking forward to it. However the most recent visit was awful and it’s been going downhill over our last coupes of visits. We booked a table for my father in laws birthday. Upon being seated, we were informed that 3 of the main course dishes were unavailable.. pretty much half of the ‘mains’ options. We don’t come to Cafe Rouge for Burgers or salad! We opted for 3 portions of Mussels as had them here before and they’re very good! Mother in law just had pate as there was nothing else she wanted. These were possibly the worst mussels we’ve ever had. You could tell they weren’t fresh (cooked from frozen for sure) and there was barely any sauce in the pot! Usually they are flavourful and abundant in sauce! No check back was performed by the manager on duty..it was a quiet Monday so wasn’t exactly run off his feet. So we couldn’t alert him. Even upon clearing we weren’t ask how our meal was! Just asked if we had finished. We decided to mention they were awful to which the manager told us he would inform the kitchen. When he came back to finish clearing, my partner asked if they were frozen or fresh mussels, to which the manager replied yes, they are frozen. Wasn’t expecting that but you could totally tell! They tasted like cardboard! We had a coffee and a pudding and to be fair to the manager he didn’t charge us for one portion of mussels and the coffees we ordered. The Bill was certainly not worth what we had. Didn’t leave a tip, which we never normally do, but the service was non existent. Manager was more interested in what was on his phone. Won’t be rushing back"

"This was a family trip with my 2 daughters 4 grandchildren, table for 12.30 with tickets for Windsor Castle time booked was important to us. We had 2 offers with us 40% outside the main or free children meal with every adult meal, it was dependent on whether my oldest grandchild had a child meal or a main as you used. We chose the free children meal with each main as he had a children meal. Everything went well until we waited to order desserts, I had to stand up and ask to order desserts, after two memories the desserts finally appeared after about 35 minutes, although we lacked an Eton measurement and a child ice cream. My Eton Mess, the first to arrive, was pretty 'runny soft' I could have complained, but I started losing the property. 2 of my grandchildren had not drunk the children, 1 had tap water, free and 1 had cola, sweet. The fun really started when I asked about the bill, as well as for 4 children's meals we were charged 4 additional fees, 2 children starters £2,50 each and 2 children ice creams £1,50 per, an additional £8,00 when I was scared it was told 'but you have taken off 3 x £6.95, that was the offer!!!! and the 4 children's meals were included in the bill. After a heated conversation the bill was returned to me, but still £ 4,00 too much, 1 child starter £2,50 1 child ice £ 1.50. Your employee Bertrand was quite Adamant, it was right, in this phase I asked for a calculator and we added the bill manually and guess who was right, ME!!! So I paid and we left. With the waiting for desserts and the confrontation over bill we finally left at 2.45 in my opinion probably an hour was wasted which we had spent in the castle, which was the main reason for our trip this day. What I really find angry is that many foreign visitors are like many other "RIPPED OFF"? We regularly eat in your Reading Henley restaurants and will continue to do this BUT WILL DEFINITELY NOT RETURNING TO WINDSOR. Pizza Next time."
