"If you like a good Sunday Lunch with friendly service and a nice atmosphere then the Greenman Pub is the place for you. We last visited in march just a week before you know what happened so we've had to wait a while before we could return. That day we enjoyed a great sunday roast which is exactly what we were treated to once again today. This visit was a little bit different to the last time as the dining area we was in before as had to be turned into a table service bar area. We received a friendly welcome from all the staff on arrival before filling out our details in the book. We were then escorted to our table on the opposite side of the pub from last time into what used to be used for when there very busy or functions. The menu has a nice selection of starters , roasts , fish , vegetarian and of course desserts. We started with the Mussels in a white wine cream shallot sauce and the Avocado Prawns in a seafood sauce with salad. Now it was time for our roasts which I have to say are a hearty size. We chose the Turkey and the Lamb that came with vegetables , yorkshires , roast potatoes , pigs in blankets and stuffing. For desserts we chose the Banana Fritters with cream ice cream and a delicious Sticky Toffee Pudding with hot Devon custard. We finished with a coffee to end a fabulous Sunday lunch. The food is good and a hearty size. All the staff are very friendly which creates a lovely atmosphere. I would highly recommend a visit and I personally will look forward to many more visits in the future. #SupportHospitality"

"While the food was tasty and steak was cooked to perfection, the horrible service and very long delays in getting served results in a rare 2 star review. Having read gushing positive reviews about this place, my girlfriend and I.. Tourists from out of town decided to stop by. We called and booked a table for 2 at 630pm. We arrived at 620pm and we're promptly seated. The evening is looking great. Then things started to go downhill. It took us 15 mins to get our orders taken..with 2 tables who arrived after us being served first by the pony tailed sole waitresses there. I waved her down and politely informed her we were ready to order, but was told in a somewhat mocking demeanor that she would be right with me. It took her another 10mins to get back to us. The 2 items we wanted to order.. Ribs and and the risotto were not available. No one told us in advance. Big letdown. To add salt to the wound, the one low alcohol beer on the menu also wasn't available. Food took even longer to arrive. We waited 40 mins before both our burger and steak arrived. Though the taste was good and portions were generous, the accompanying sauce was way too little for a steak of that size. Although my cutlery was swapped out to include a serrated knife, my partner wasn't even given a steak knife. She relied on a bread knife to cut her burger. We asked for water and I made it clear we wanted hot water. We were served a water jug with cold water. End of the night, we can't help feeling very frustrated at the quality of service and long food wait times. We weren't the only ones. We noticed other tables too incurred at least 30 min wait times for food. Perhaps we are an Asian couple.. Was this the reason our table was skipped not once but twice in getting orders taken? One can't help but to draw conclusions. Given the chance, we won't be back again. There are many other establishments in the area worth exploring. With hopefully better table service. If you decide to come here, come very early and hopefully you're of the right skin color to receive proper table service that deserves your hard earned money. And be prepared for long wait times for your food. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: £20–30 Food: 4 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 2"

"SOGGY BOTTOM! I had a craving for pie! After surgery the previous week, I needed comfort food as any form of distraction from my pain. After a long time searching on Google for lunchtime venues to eat what I wanted, I decided the Bolton Arms would be great for lunch. My husband and I had not been there for a number of years where we previously had a fabulous dinner so it was time to visit again. Also, I didn’t want a corporate chain run group of pubs/restaurants bulk buying produce to ‘turbo’ in giant ovens. No, I wanted homemade real food. Reading the present menu homemade pie was advertised so I rang the Bolton Arms to confirm this item would be available and it was. We went for lunch. Drinks were ordered at the bar which we took to our table, then after a little longer than would have liked our food order was taken. Our food arrived after quite a long time. My pie steaming hot … but where’s the meat? I was presented with a solid hard topped pastry shell with just a minimal of ham hock meat (I was advised it was ham hock) which was drowning in an indescribable grey/white sauce and accompanied by soft carrots with an odd perfume aftertaste. The cabbage resembled a food stuff my grandmother would have boiled for two weeks! Cutting into this, the pastry base disintegrated leaving a pale soggy pie bottom. Nothing was seasoned. I guess the Chef had the day off! Please see two photos of pies I would expect and the pie I received. I think anyone reading this will distinguish the difference. A couple arrived after us and also ordered the pie. Watching over my husbands’ shoulder, each fork was heaped full of meat with a plate of steaming fresh vegetables. I have been short changed! Being hungry distorts immediate reactions and therefore a complaint at the time was not made. My husband just had a sausage sandwich which was nice – thank you. But for someone who never comments, did tell me he thought my food was pretty dreadful. The Bolton Arms is a traditional pub and listed building. The interior is dark and in desperate need of a little more comfort that would benefit modernising even simple fabrics and décor, but please put the heating on. I know it was lunchtime and only 4 tables were sat but to put my coat back on to keep warm is unacceptable. This pub felt cold, dusty and totally uninviting. Would we return. NO. But in a few years to see if changes have been taken on board. Yes. Good luck for your future The Bolton Arms."
