"I was here on a Saturday evening around 8 o'clock. Perhaps not the best time to review a cafe/brasserie, however, it wasn't busy so there really wasn't any excuse to my mind as to the poor quality of the food. I had the cod filet, which as it turns out, wasn't a filet at all. My partner-in-crime had the lamb which I think was sufficiently satisfying. He didn't comment on the quality, so I'm guessing that it wasn't exceptional. My dish however was absolutely horrendous. To start the fish was floating in a layer of olive oil, something that I just don't find appealing. If the oil comes halfway up the fish, I'm not a happy camper. Then, the filet was not a filet. It was a full fish, with massive amounts of bones. I didn't expect bones, and they were everywhere. In the first bite, and I take small bites, I had three bones big enough that I had to remove them. To give some credit where credit is due, since I didn't eat the fish, just the grilled-to-mush vegetables that it came with (also schlumping around in oil) we didn't have to pay for the fish. But the waitress made such a big deal out of it that it was incredibly awkward. All-in-all? Poor service, poor food, and screaming babies on a Saturday. Lovely, enjoy."

"We arrived five minutes after their 9am opening time and were greeted with the comment ‘sorry, we don’t have any milk at the moment’. We agreed that we would,have coffee without milk as we were in s bit of a hurry. The breakfast was mediocre, brittle toast clearly from yesterday’s bread, one half rasher of bacon £1.50 as an extra with scrambled egg, eggs benedict with bright yellow glutinous hollandaise sauce and grey ham…They were clearly having a bad day, and so were we. Having been to this Cafs Rouge the day it opened, this was a huge let down."

My man and I visited at different meal times and I opted for coffee and a snack while he enjoyed the hearty boeuf bourguignon, which was filled with tender meat and fresh beans. While there may be better boeuf bourguignon in higher-end restaurants, the price and ambiance at Café Rouge on Low Petergate cannot be beaten. Despite being part of a chain, this location has a unique charm that is easy to forget. Additionally, there is a charming and cozy dining room in the back. "Visited with friends and asked about the cocktail offers at the bar , the young girl with fair hair in plaits replied can you wait for a minuite as I am stressed , I replied oh I’m sorry to hear that and she did not reply … she continued making a cocktail in a dirty jug and at that point I walked out with friends , I thought it was maybe a one off so returned again just a week later and again we were not greeted and got ignored at the bar while they all chatted , place was very dirty and again the cocktail jug and glasses were disgusting , there is no way I would return here , worse place in Durham … for the record if was a blonde girl and a dark headed guy and 2 young girls both very rude and clearly not trained as it was the same girl that told me she was stressed the week before ."

"Although the waiter was very good , we were not impressed with the time there . We were using a virgin experience a three course meal and drink. I gave the voucher to the waiter as soon as he seated us, but the manager I believe was very sharp with me over using the voucher and the fact that he couldn't find it, and that I hadn't booked it correctly, well they had our booking so if something went wrong it wasn't what we had done. The waiter asked what we wanted to drink whilst the manager tried to sort out what menu we should have, we were given our drinks a lemonade and lime and a glass of wine. We eventually were given a menu and ordered our food which was all fine we ordered some bread as an extra. When we come to ask for the bill for which we should only have had to pay for the wine, lemonade and bread which came to £9.65 in total but were presented with a bill for £18.53 and was told this was the balance owing . After being made to feel the way we did I wasn't in the mood to argue , this should not happen I accept we needed to pay for our extra drinks etc but the voucher should have covered our meal, we weren't given the normal menu it was a set one so maybe someone could tell me why we had to pay the extra. I would not recommend to anyone"

"The Cafe rouge in Dulwich village is very convenient for lunch after visiting the picture gallery, and very good value if you have a gourmet card, but I thought the mussels were a little dry (reheated? . Rose wine was nice."

"We visited the Wimbledon branch in May to celebrate my daughters birthday; it was a weekday and not very busy. Although we requested a cake they advised they could not organise anything so we brought our own. We were not welcomed at all from the moment we arrived and the waitress made us feel we were not wanted and rushed through the whole dinner; however despite the bad service, the food was good and it did not spoil the evening. Thinking it was an off night for the waitress, we went there again on Saturday. Unfortunately we had the same waitress again and much the same service I think she has her favourites as other people were not getting the same treatment! Food is good but best to go to another branch for service!!"

"Service okay. Short staffed , seemed inexperienced. Our waitress was good but she had to keep chasing the remainder. Food was awful ; shell in food ! One dish was defiantly not restaurant standard and looked like it was made up with left over ingredients. Fish undercooked ! Ran out of main meals and it was only 1900. Really bad experience ! Would not recommend"
