"We have been going to the Bears Head for a couple of years for special occasions. They must have a new Chef because the Sunday Roast Beef was red and 2 people at the table didn't enjoy it. I couldn't eat mine and swapped with someone else. The latest trend to serve red meat isn't to everyone's taste. The parsnip was so al dente that I couldn't cut it with my knife!! I thought I was just being picky, so didn't complain."

"I occasionally visit this restaurant for good, straightforward food in a cozy atmosphere. The views overlooking the South Downs are beautiful, so I recommend requesting a table near the window for the best experience. I was disappointed when I arrived and my reservation made through OpenTable was not acknowledged, but thankfully I arrived early at 12pm and was able to choose a table. I have since learned to make reservations directly with the restaurant, and had a great experience doing so. Overall, this is a good restaurant with attentive staff."

"After booking online at 8:30am, the morning of the lunch (2:30pm) I received a booking confirmation of which I organised the family and met them at the pub. We arrived and there was no record of our booking and they were fully booked. We had a four year old and a month old baby as part of our party and waited over 20min in the bar area whilst the staff rather negatively/aggressively discussed if I was lying about the booking or not. Eventually they provided a table of six (a table had sat empty the whole time) and mentioned they had moved a few things round. Their excuse was the online booking system wasnt checked as they had been too busy to phone to say pub was full. I had travelled down from Sheffield for a special occasion and was happy nobody had told us. Lunch I can say was great but service wasn’t. Waited 15min to order our drinks and gave up after asking for he dessert menus after 20min of nobody attending our table. Ended up going to the local shop for dessert!"

We were shown a table, then waited half an hour before anyone came to take a drink or food order, no reason given for delay or an apology. "Come here on occasions, good honest food. Cozy atmosphere. Lovely views looking over the South Downs, try to ask for a table near the window for that. Was not happy booking on-line with Opentable as when I arrived there was no indication of my reservation. Fortunately, I arrived early before 12 and was able to choose. Do telephone direct for a reservation preferably, I did get just what I wanted on another occasion. Good restaurant, staff obliging."

"What a fantastic place! There are plenty of parking spaces, but it was still quite busy even on a Wednesday night. The food was excellent, and we polished off every last bite on our plates. Our server was absolutely delightful—she was knowledgeable, enthusiastic about the different dishes on the menu, and really funny. I believe her name was Sue; she had long blonde/white hair. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble for her. I highly recommend making a reservation, as it was very busy, and tables were being filled nearly as soon as they became available."

"We chose Heanton Court as we have been before and had a good experience. We arrived and ordered drinks and had a bit of banter with the bartender. We were shown to the table, we were given a good amount of time to choose our food. The waitress was very nice. We ordered one Salmon and three Steak pie, we waited approximately 30 minutes when she returned and advised us that the order hadn’t gone through mean time they only had two pies. We reordered and received our food. After the main we ordered one sweet and coffees, the sweet arrived within minutes, we waited another 15 minutes but no coffee, when I asked she had forgotten about them. She did apologise and didn’t charge for the sweet and one of the mains. Although she was very polite and apologetic it marred our evening which was partly for Mother’s Day, but mainly our son was returning to Chicago. We like Heanton and enjoyed previous visits, I would just like the waitress to be a bit more attentive. Sorry for the rant. Thank you."

"We didn't enjoy our experience at Bugle Horn. Don't book through OpenTable; they had no record of our reservation under either their booking number or our name. Even though I received a confirmation email and reminder, it didn't matter because they had no record of it. As a result, we were seated in the bar area, where we felt isolated. The reception was quite unfriendly and they couldn't accommodate us in the main restaurant. We understand that it was a busy evening, but they certainly didn’t seem overwhelmed. This definitely dampened the overall experience for us."
