"Not a great experience. Courtyard dining was nice given the weather and the food was reasonably priced if a little underwhelming. Service was a major let down. There were a handful of guests and the service team were slow to acknowledge us both upon arrival in the hotel and beyond. We were charged when placing the order, which is perfectly fine until we realised we were the only ones that had been charged upfront. Not sure of the rationale and probably wouldn't have been bothered until we were asked to pay again when leaving. For clarity, this was a business lunch and both of us were suited, not exactly looking the part to run off. Would have been happy for them to have approached and simply ask of we had paid rather than have someone ask from across the courtyard. Drinks arrived late, but to be fair food was served on time. Fortunately the company and conversation made up for a poor showing from the restaurant."

"We arrived five minutes after their 9am opening time and were greeted with the comment âsorry, we donât have any milk at the momentâ. We agreed that we would, have coffee without milk as we were in s bit of a hurry. The breakfast was mediocre, brittle toast clearly from yesterdayâs bread, one half rasher of bacon ÂŁ1.50 as an extra with scrambled egg, eggs benedict with bright yellow glutinous hollandaise sauce and grey hamâŚThey were clearly having a bad day, and so were we. Having been to this Cafs Rouge the day it opened, this was a huge let down."

"We recently visited Maxwell's as a group of five, and the experience was fantastic from start to finish. The atmosphere was lively, the food was delicious, and the service was impeccable. The chicken wings and frickles were especially amazingâcrispy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The menu had something for everyone, and everything we ordered was served hot and full of flavor. What really stood out to us was how accommodating the staff were, especially with our friends who brought their baby. They went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable, providing high chairs and helping us settle in with ease. Their attentiveness and friendliness made the whole experience even more enjoyable, and we felt well taken care of the entire time. Thank you, Maxwell's, for a lovely evening! We canât wait to return."

"Room was overwarm, ran out of onion rings on Easter Sunday so no shops open to get more! Felt it was expensive for what it was no better quality than say a Beefeater at what felt like high prices. Service was friendly and fairly quick but were not many guests think they may have struggled if full. May go back again to a more local restaurant but only if a special occasion due to prices. Suggest they use another platform than OpenTable for booking though as I unsubscribed previously due to getting spammed with emails all the time."

"Comfortable though rather informal arrangement of easy chairs and coffee tables in the Lounge Bar. Booked afternoon tea and received excellent service and a great selection of teas. Loved the little egg timers for correct brewing. As I am are allergic to fish I had contacted the hotel previously and was glad to find that the message had got through to the staff in the lounge. They made me a lovely alternative to the in-house smoked salmon of roasted peppers and cream cheese. Scones were amazing though the patisserie selection was a little avant garde for my taste. Well worth ÂŁ30, not only for the quality and quantity of the food but for the atmosphere and service which made it a special occasion."

"The food was excellent, but the service left much to be desired. The staff were quite pushy about taking our order, which didn't allow us much time to peruse the menu. This may have been influenced by the current restrictions, but it felt a bit overwhelming. Additionally, they served all the food at once. While the quality of the food was impressive, the staff could have been more friendly and personable instead of coming across as robotic."

"I love the relaxed feel of this place â like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. I definitely would return to try more dishes. The potato-leek soup was amazing and the Bibb lettuce salad was refreshing. The table was split on the monkfish â one person thought it was great, but another felt that the tastes didn't quite mesh. Everyone loved the flat iron steak. Service was well-timed and friendly, wines were affordable."

"CafĂŠ Rouge at 52 Low Petergate not only offers delicious food but also boasts a beautiful street-front facade that shines brightly at night through its large windows. My man and I visited at different meal times and I opted for coffee and a snack while he enjoyed the hearty boeuf bourguignon, which was filled with tender meat and fresh beans. While there may be better boeuf bourguignon in higher-end restaurants, the price and ambiance at CafĂŠ Rouge on Low Petergate cannot be beaten. Despite being part of a chain, this location has a unique charm that is easy to forget. Additionally, there is a charming and cozy dining room in the back. CafĂŠ Rouge can be found at 52 Low Petergate, York, YO1 7HZ, and can be reached at 44 1904 673293."

"I occasionally visit this restaurant for good, straightforward food in a cozy atmosphere. The views overlooking the South Downs are beautiful, so I recommend requesting a table near the window for the best experience. I was disappointed when I arrived and my reservation made through OpenTable was not acknowledged, but thankfully I arrived early at 12pm and was able to choose a table. I have since learned to make reservations directly with the restaurant, and had a great experience doing so. Overall, this is a good restaurant with attentive staff."
"After booking online at 8:30am, the morning of the lunch (2:30pm) I received a booking confirmation of which I organised the family and met them at the pub. We arrived and there was no record of our booking and they were fully booked. We had a four year old and a month old baby as part of our party and waited over 20min in the bar area whilst the staff rather negatively/aggressively discussed if I was lying about the booking or not. Eventually they provided a table of six (a table had sat empty the whole time) and mentioned they had moved a few things round. Their excuse was the online booking system wasnt checked as they had been too busy to phone to say pub was full. I had travelled down from Sheffield for a special occasion and was happy nobody had told us. Lunch I can say was great but service wasnât. Waited 15min to order our drinks and gave up after asking for he dessert menus after 20min of nobody attending our table. Ended up going to the local shop for dessert!"

"I love pizza, who doesn't? It's a delicious circle of tomato-covered happiness. Italian history aside, the invention of pizza definitely made things better. Imagine if famous figures like Caesar and Napoleon had access to pizza, they might have been happier. Did you know that not all pizzas are round and that there are variations in toppings by region? At Made In Italy, you can enjoy a meter-long pizza with up to four toppings that is truly divine. The dough, tomatoes, and cheese are top-notch, creating a heavenly combination. Even if you usually prefer more elaborate pizzas, the simplicity of the margherita pizza at Made In Italy is so well-balanced that you won't feel like you're missing anything. Gather some friends and head to Made In Italy for a pizza night you won't forget."

"Charming and quaint setting, discreetly tucked away behind Bond st. Food was delicious. Burrata was probaby the freshest I have tasted. I wanted the Avocado and eggs from the brunch menu but they had run out of avocado. The Halloumi fries were very nice. The truffle chips were delish as well. On the downside, they do not have a No Smoking policy outside, so you are forced to inhale second hand smoke, if you want to sit outside. Very unpleasant."

"absolutely amazing. we sat down on a busy Saturday night, which is expected to be booked, the beautiful lady who welcomed us aimfully made a table for us so that we could feed. drinks were ordered and arrived very quickly from a very happy helpful waitress. the food ordered next door and since it was busy, we didn't expect wrong again. the beginnings came in good time and were pilted hot, the calamari was boiled to perfection and nave muscles were perfect. the best middleton grill is an absolute must, it was the best steak I ever had. the chicken was moist and very tasty and the ribs from this world. I can't eat middletons to all the staff friendly and amazing that even better. an absolute gem in watford. x"

"another wonderful evening here with family. that never disappoints. the filet steak boiled medium rare is a firm favorite of me. the rest of my family loved their chicken burgers and mixed grills. the appetizers were again amazing, I had the chicken warm wings and the rest of my family had the baked camembert, broth board, calamari and tomaten and mozzarella salat. the staff above all the woman who greeted us and the lady who took my call when we held in traffic and delayed, were especially beautiful, understanding and friendly. we also had a really nice waitress who served us from the main course. we would definitely come back here and recommend it."

"On this occasion, a mixed experience. Met friends at 5pm for drinks. Table already booked for 8pm to dine. Bar busy, tables full of dirty glasses. We were invited to share a long table with another party. I made two trips to the bar with about sixteen empty glasses to make space for new drinks. Great to see the place so busy as it's our only local. My husband and his mates are regulars every Friday night, often on other days too. Unfortunately on this particular visit there was no draught beer or cold white wine. The reason for no hand-pulled beer was âThe manager is cleaning the linesâ. Yes really!!! Tea-time on December 29th whilst the pub and restaurant were heaving⌠It gets better!!! âThe manager was still cleaning the lines over one hour laterâ. My husband and his friends drank Guinness, not their drink of choice but they are forgiving chaps. Apparently Howard who had arrived before us ordered a pint of cask beer and when he expressed his dismay at the timing of the line-cleaning was told, âif you donât like it you can go somewhere elseâ. When I found my Chardonnay to be quite warm, I went to the bar and asked the barman if there was any âcoldâ white wine, he mauled my glass and said âitâs been in the fridgeâ, I replied âbut itâs not coldâ, he offered to put some ice in it. I didnât want ice in my wine, itâs supposed to be served nicely chilled without the need for ice to water it down. To my surprise the barman offered to sell me a whole bottle of wine (presumably with a bucket of ice). I opted for ice and a dash of soda in my warm wine. Thinking ahead I asked if there were any other bottles of Chardonnay in the fridge so that I might have a glass of my favourite wine with a meal later on. The barman could offer no assurance, to be fair he seemed a little out of his depth, some further training will resolve this in the future. I attempted to discuss my experience with Johnny the restaurant manager when he came to our table later in the evening, he was uninterested, unapologetic and simply said, âWeâve been busyâ. The food was ok, not fine dining but enjoyable and served to a good standard as weâve come to expect from the Broughton Inn. I still feel disappointed by the shoddy attitude of certain staff members that evening. In the absence of an alternative within walking distance from our homes we will continue to spend our money there but with less enthusiasm than before. My current opinion of the management remains low."

"We visited this restaurant for the first time today and had a wonderful experience. The lady who welcomed us was extremely friendly (I wish I had remembered her name). We have a couple of allergies, and she was very helpful in accommodating them. My husband and children enjoyed the carvery, while my mother and I opted for curry with naan and rice. The carvery was very good, with the server being clear and thorough in addressing our allergies and very friendly with my daughter. The curries were amazing. I had the butter milk chicken, which I believe was one of the best curries I have had in a long time. The naan was fresh and clearly homemade. We will definitely be returning to try more of their curries. Thank you so much for a great experience!"

"I went here with my husband for a Saturday lunch on a 5pm big deal. I can't fault the place, it was delicious and I was a bit greedy and went for a third course. I had a prawn starter still in the shells), sea bass for main and a lovely apple and blackberry crumble with custard for dessert. Sometimes I think when you are on a deal you don't get the same service as other customers but this was definitely not the case here. The service was great as was the standard and choice of food. It was not a special menu for the deal but was one that you can get just walking in with no booking, great choice. The deal included a classic cocktail, again good choice and was pleased with the quality of the cocktail. The restaurant was quite quiet but still had a good atmosphere, wouldn't put me off going back at the same time. We went in to the bar after lunch for another drink. I will definitely be back for food and would even just drop in for a drink. Some restaurants advertise as restaurant and bar , the bar being a few stools at at the bar or a couple of tables stuck in the corner. They actually have a separate bar which is very nice, high glass ceiling. If I was being picky I would say that we waited quite a while for our dessert plates to be cleared as the waitress appeared to be on a break and the bar staff covered. Not a big deal for me. The overall experience feels like something special , a bit of a treat without being stuffy, I look forward to returning."

"Very friendly, attentive and helpful staff. The starters were all interesting and not disappointing. For the mains, the steak was excellent and cooked to perfection. The sides were also excellent. Unfortunately the lobster was disappointing. The meat was removed and cooked with the mac cheese and then the whole mixture was replaced in the empty lobster shell. This totally subdued the taste of lobster and the cheesy taste was too dominant. Difficult to tell if the lobster was pre-cooked or cooked live. The shell was small and hopefully it was not re-cycled as the head and claws were missing from the presentation. Apart from that, enjoyed the steak and everything else. Will definitely eat there again only for the steaks and avoid the lobster."

"Amalfi is the friendliest, most authentic Italian restaurant youâll experience outside of Italy. Weâve been going here for a few years and the food is always amazing and the staff couldnât be any nicer. Thanks to all the staff for all your hard work. I couldnât recommend Amalfi any more highly."
