"Christmas Prefix Dinner is Terrible. We just left after having one of the worst meals I’ve ever had especially for the price. First off all, the portions are far too large for two people. Most prefix menus I’ve had at classy restaurants have multiple courses that are much smaller so you can enjoy a wide variety of carefully crafted dishes. To start, the beef tartar had clearly been sitting out because it was dry and stringy. The prawns were in a seaweed soup that made the whole table smell like the sea and tasted overly salty. Then the turkey was roasted to a crisp. So dry and flavorless. The stuffing and sausage tasted cheap and fatty. We also had the portobello and sweet potatoe Wellington. It wasn’t as bad but also nothing special. It all came with an overwhelming amount of carrots, Brussels sprouts (hard and undercooked) and other random veggies. My wife and I are two normal sized individuals so I don’t understand how the average person puts down this much food. Next there was a cheese board that we just skipped entirely to try and save room for the desert. They brought me the wrong desert (ordered the pudding, got the cheese cake) and so we just nibbled on the chocolate torte. Hard to mess that one up and it was decent. Skipped our pudding that was originally ordered because it was taking for ever. The only things we liked were the things we ordered on the side (a nice run mmm rhubarb cocktail and some fresh juice). Overall, I’d say it was a waste of 200 pounds and damped out Christmas Day experience. I wish they would’ve offered to discount the meal as they saw we didn’t enjoy multiple dishes and downright skipped others. Go to a local pub instead on Christmas Day or just skip the prefix menus all together."

"Disappointing visit. Went for breakfast on a rare girls day with my daughter. There was no one in the top area so we walked downstairs to the bar area as that 's where my daughter wished to sit. We were told we couldn 't sit there and to go back upstairs where someone would seat us. I advised there was no one upstairs and got short thrift about someone being on their way. Back upstairs and we were told we couldn 't sit in a booth as it was reserved but had no reserved sign on and none one used the booth for the 40 minutes I was there. We were also refused to sit at a table of 4 'just in case some more people came in ' and had no choice but to sit where we didn 't want to, under the air con and getting the draft from the main door which was open. The service was poor to start with but thawed after I ordered. I got the feeling they thought I was there for the kids eat free thing and decided to be nicer when I ordered two items of the usual menu. I used to love Bill 's in Reading and had been looking forward to going again so this experience was a big disappointment. This one definitely doesn 't have the same vibe as the Reading one. On the plus side, once thawed the staff seemed quite nice and attempted to be chatty but it was just a little too late by then sadly On a plus side, the food was very good. Pancakes looked great and my halloumi and poached eggs was super. I wouldn 't recommend this Bill 's though and wish we had gone somewhere else."
