"We have been to cotes many times 9 out of 10 times it has been excellent. This was a 19:30 Sunday evening birthday booking to be fair, a glass of kir royal was given to me on arrival. We ordered our food which on the whole was excellent.....The Ribeye steak was perfectly medium rare....The Breton Chicken was delicious and, once again being served as a spatchcocked half chicken, after a brief spell of getting two legs for half a chicken!! A couple of things spoilt the almost perfect evening; The opening page of the Cotes website is a crab...guess what? No crab maison! When asked if we needed any condiments for our meal........ No vinegar.!...How can you have a restaurant without vinegar?, You can't serve chips without vinegar...... Especially when there is a Co-op supermarket 100 yards away!! The other thing I would point out was that i didn't think that gratin dauphinois potatoes, which accompanied the chicken was french for slices of undercooked potatoes in milk! because that's how it came! For some reason the atmosphere, especially from the staff was fairly cold. As though something had happen earlier. On past occasions the staff have always been talkative friendly. I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but it felt as if something was wrong. There was a very large party in there, so it might have been the pressure of that. We like going to Cotes, and despite these small doubts will continue to visit. My advice to the restaurant?......iron out these small faults quickly, because the big guns....ie Wagamama, Mama Loves Spaghetti, Giggling Squid etc. are moving in!! also.......get some vinegar!! "Bury St Edmunds is bustling. Couldn't get a table anywhere. Got one at Carluccios. Now I saw why. I used to love this restaurant back in the day. But since the takeover it's got worse and worse. Tonight was a combination of the most lacklustre of services and average food. The menu has been reduced dramatically but even then, one of the starters wasn't available. My wife asked for her favourite the Penne Giardiniere but the spinach balls weren't available. She was offered chicken instead despite it being a vegetarian dish. The waitress/manager never asked if we had any allergies either! Throughout the meal, our empty cans and glasses stood and we're never cleared. We weren't even asked if we wanted more drinks! Considering they need to sell as much as possible, this was crazy. We would have ordered more but apart from asking once as to how our meal was, there was no interest in our table. The Cannoli dessert was squidgy instead of crispy and comped. Worst of all, the manager had accidentally charged us for an entire bottle of Prosecco for £35.00 instead of the single glass £7.50. This was taken off with a brief apology but she did not seem to really care about such a spectacular mistake. It could have easily been overlooked in a bill for 5 people. It was almost a mistake too difficult to make by accident. The decor has been neglected. Most of the light bulbs are dead or hanging out of the sockets. The restaurant was near empty when we left at 21:30pm. The staff were cleaning and tidying up most of the time. In fact, they did this with more intent than checking on the customers. It will be interesting to see what restaurant moves in next."
