"We visited for a late lunch and found that there were no hot sandwiches available on the weekend, so we opted for a combination of a fry-up and fish and chips, which were both about £15 each. The food was tasty, and the service was prompt. However, we felt it was a bit unfair that they charged us £2.20 each for extra pots of tea when we simply asked for hot water refills. It was relatively quiet when we arrived in the mid-afternoon, but it got quite busy by late afternoon. They offer craft ales from their own brewery, but we haven't tried them yet!"

"In the end, we opted for breakfast since we were starving, but later that day, we found it impossible to secure a place for Christmas dinner. Consequently, we had to settle for room service at our hotel around the corner, which was incredibly disappointing. Moreover, while we were there, the staff at 11 Cadogan Gardens appeared overwhelmed with preparations for the Christmas meal. We had to ask for basic items, such as a fork; it took five minutes after our breakfast was delivered for someone to check on us. I ordered a mimosa and was served a flute of orange juice that tasted like it had no champagne in it. To my surprise, ten minutes later, I received a separate flute of champagne! Apparently, I was supposed to mix them myself, but no one communicated that to me. While breakfast was acceptable, it definitely wasn’t worth the equivalent of around $75 USD."

"Our dinner experience at this restaurant was supposed to be a highlight of our week away during Christmas, but unfortunately, it did not meet our expectations. The main issue was that upon being seated, we were informed that many menu options were no longer available. In my 40 years of dining out, I have never encountered a list of unavailable options as extensive as this. The excuse given for the limited food availability being because it was Christmas was wholly inappropriate. Despite this disappointment, the rest of the evening was satisfactory, with the food and service being decent. Overall, it was a letdown. I would recommend that the management improve their menu planning and food ordering process for the future."

"gows is part of the extensive balls brothers group, whose website boasts that our legendary gows oyster restaurant and bar has been serving the best meal times in the city for years, suggesting that gows began today in the old broad street in my experience, but was terribly disappointing. Opening times are shown as for the oyster bar and in the evening for the restaurant. as an early booker on the square I chose the oyster bar, but when I tried to order food, it was said that the kitchen was not opened before, so I had to wait until then to order. "dylans surpassed my expectations this time. the staff was beautiful and gave us a great seat with a view in the new bar-school style area. we had an amazing pizza and were able to change toppings that was a bonus. fish tacos were a new thing to try bland but ok. excellent selection of puddings and specials! overall fast service, great food and we will definitely be back for another meal!"

"We had friends over and wanted them to experience a traditional British Afternoon Tea. We found the offer for Hilton's Afternoon Tea, while we past the hotel the day before. The booking of the table was simple. We arrived 15 minutes prior our scheduled time but we were seated immediately. Our friends eat Halal which we forgot to book, in advance. However, the chef came to our table, introduced himself and asked for their wishes as an alternative. The extraordinarily friendly waitress brought our teas straight away; the Afternoon Tea snacks came a couple of minutes afterwards. The food was amazing!!! Especially tasty were the scones. They were served warm with the clotted cream and jam (just like in the traditional Afternoon Tea). The price, which is already quite cheap, included the traditional Afternoon Tea and two servings of tea per person. Overall, we were very pleased and totally recommend going to the Hilton Hotel in Cambridge for a traditional, affordable Afternoon Tea with Halal alternatives and a great service!!"

"Had a family gathering at this pub to celebrate my daughter’s recent birthday. We all ate and had drinks there. Service, politeness and helpfulness of staff was good. Being a party over a certain number we had to pre book our starters and main course which wasn’t a problem, but I found this establishments food and drinks way over priced, both food and drink. Large white wine £9.90, firstly ferret pint £5.90. You can view the price of the meals on their website. I just had a burger which came with chips. It was quite nice but quite average. Before I started eating it the bottom half of the bun was soaked in burger grease and was mush. The chips I wouldn’t be surprised if they were McCain’s straight frozen or possibly some other brand, but not fresh made. Holding the burger together was a wooden skewer and placed on top of the burger was two slightly cooked onion rings which I would say also come out of the freezer. I have eaten better burgers from McDonald’s or Burger King for half the price. My wife had Dover Sole and said the fish was nice, but over priced. For a sweet four of us had baklava. It’s was a fair portion of baklava, but rated about a 6.5 to 7 10. As we left the pub I only counted 4 people in the pub, perhaps there were more that I couldn’t see, this was at approx 18:30 on a Saturday evening. The inside of the pub is nice, shame about the prices. My wife asked me would I come here again, I replied I wouldn’t choose to come here, and she agreed. It wasn’t my choice to go there for this visit. The quality of the food doesn’t warrant such high prices."

"Firstly, I am somewhat amazed at the reviews theis venue has based on our visit on Saturday evening. We arrived 45 minutes early for our table for 4 persons at 7.30pm as I had called ahead at lunchtime asking if they had a bar area that we could sit and select from the menu in advance of being seated in the restaurant. I was given the impression that they had a lavish area for this purpose. However, this was not the case and we were shown to our table on arrival which was probably the worst location in the restaurant that was sparse of diners at that time. I will elaborate on our table location as it made for a negative night. It was a circular table placed in a “gap” between the original restaurant area and what appeared to be an extension to the restaurant. This gap did have curtains that could have been closed which would have curtailed guests and staff squeezing between the wall and one of our chairs but when asked the Owner said he would not close them……. In fairness, “Theo” the Owner did offer the choice another two alternative tables but both were in no better location! We sat and ordered drinks and were provided with menus. The drinks arrived in a timely fashion and were made fine. I also ordered some wine which was decanted and allowed time to breath before being served. The wine was an Amorone but the year did not warrant the price he was charging but nonetheless was quite good. We placed our food order and in doing so I asked if chef would add a simple fried egg to top the steak I had ordered. I was told by Theo that he was down a number of staff on the evening shift and could not provide the egg. How many people would we have needed to fry an egg???? To be honest the whole experience was not worth almost £500.00 even though the food fine. We also found it disturbing the way Theo tried to control the waiting staff this may have been because they were young or new to the role but we felt that the staff did a good job and didn’t need micro managing! I am always curious when a front of house individual, who gives the impression he is in total control, loses the plot mid service. I did tell Theo I would give a poor review and he pretty much dismissed me so I dug a little deeper and it would appear the restaurant has suffered financial issues in the very recent past…….. this information is in the public domaine through Google. All in all we were so disappointed with a venue that appears to have a wealth of happy diners from their reviews……. It’s NOT that good Guys!!!"

"Went for my sister’s bday. Had a great time. Only few things is that they don’t give tap water and charge a lot for a small bottle of water. They don’t accept card payment. It must be cash for now because they haven’t installed the card payment machine, there is an atm right outside the lounge. The food was too tasty and will be back again to have it again. The Mocktails are so good and generally it was a nice vibe and great ambience. The staff were really attentive and made my sisters day really lovely."

"During the last year I have visited The Minories couple of times, each time happier than before, and each time, my expectations continued to be exceeded. On the last visit, we ordered a sharing platter, it was absolutely flavorful, well presented and more than enough for two. Apart from the tasty food, the ambience was fantastic, even though my team lost the final match that night, I never felt gloomy. Last but not least, I would love to mention the leadership team, the friendly effective good-looking manager was looking after all the individuals that evening and making sure everything run smoothly, and everyone is pleased. "We had the pork belly for starter and wow it melted in your mouth. It was coated in a beautiful sweet sauce and the crackling the lovely and crispy also the apple slaw that came with it was the perfect balance. For main we had the 10z black Angus on the steak stone and I’ve never tasted anything like it it was delicious, as soon as the steak hit my tongue it melted away. It was seasoned beautifully and wasn’t chewy at all every bite was so easy. It was so soft and buttery that you could’ve cut it with a spoon. I highly recommend! We also had some sides, chips, cauliflower cheese, onion rings amd creamed chorizo cabbage and leek, and all of these were delicious the creamed chorizo cabbage and leek was amazing and highly recommend along with the onion rings they was crispy and sweet! Finally we had dessert, my partner had the chocolate mousse garden pot and he thoroughly enjoyed it and I had the stick toffee pudding that I asked to have with custard and even though it wasn’t on the menu the waiter went out of his way to get it for me for my dessert, also it was our birthdays and the waiter and waiters came out with our dessert with candles in them and light up tambourines singing happy birthday to us! Highly recommend this restaurant environment was perfect food was beyond compare! The staff were so lovely and paid so much attention and care for their guests."

"Heard that this was one of the better places in Edinburgh to visit if you wanted a good cocktail. So this is were we headed. On approach it looks very posh (well it is in George Street) and inside the decor is rather grand if a little open and cold. No doubt this works well on weekends with large groups. We ordered some bar nibbles roast nut mix and the marinated olives. Good sized bowls and rather tasty with the cocktails. I was pleasantly surprised with the cocktails, they are a decent size with a good whack of alcohol. For approx £8 a cocktail you would hope so, but I've paid more for a lot less. We started of with two Brambles and then slowly worked our way through the menu. The Bramble cocktail is gin, lemon juice and Creme du Mure served over crushed ice with a slice of lemon and a hint of blackberries. It was lovely! We managed to get a nice seat in the corner by the window and spent the night listening to the DJ, sipping cocktails and talking nonsense. A fabulous way to spend a Friday evening."

"Return visit again for another excellent dinner at the Clissold. Cannot fault it. We were greeted warmly greeted like old friends to celebrate my wifes birthday party of 12. We ordered the sharing meze which was tasty and clearly freshly prepared. The items like dips, calamari, haloumi, salads etc arrived first followed by delicious tender kebabs, cutlets and moussaka. Pudding was a homemade apple pie with caramelised icing sugar and vanilla ice cream which was a real treat. Wines including famous Greek red, white and Mastiha afterwards. Everything tasted really fresh. The restaurant is comfortable, we arrived at 6pm and left at 12, the staff charming, helpful and friendly and checking all the time if we have enough and would we like more of anything. I can happily say it is great venue and you will be looked after really well."

"Nothing special or spectacular. Service was decent staff were friendly and attentive enough. Food was average but have had better. Chicken wings were small. Breads could do with tapenade or balsamic for dipping in rather than butter (which was in the little packs; wasn’t even presented nicely). Steak was fatty. Burger was nice but dry/overdone. The actual restaurant itself is quite cool, with the bar in the middle and gives a very modern feel. What ruined it was the choice of seats we were given at the kitchen door with staff running in and out or the front door with customers loitering around waiting to be seated I understand restaurants want to squeeze people in to make more money but I’m not sure either of those spots are the place to have a table."
