"I took my son there for a steak. On arrival, we were asked if we had made a booking and this was checked up on their screen. As the majority of the tables were empty, I thought they would fill up. However, by the time we left, the majority of the tables were still empty; begging the question as to why reservations were such a big deal on arrival. My son ordered a 12oz fillet steak medium which was butterflied rather than grilled whole which we did not understand as it came from the tail end of the fillet rather than the butt or prime end. I ordered a 12 oz ribeye medium rare. Both steaks came cooked exactly to order. The fillet was reasonably tender but the ribeye had membrane that had not been removed and made it quite tough eating. In addition the ribeye had been marinaded in some form of sweet dark sauce which could be clearly tasted and which spoiled the overall taste of the ribeye steak. The accompanying pepper sauce was rather bland. The fries and sweet potatoes were reasonable, the grilled tomatoes over-cooked and the mushrooms were good. The English mustard requested was in front French and I heard an adjoining table have the same challenge. I do not believe that they had English mustard on that night, or perhaps at all. When the ribeye was pointed out to the waitress, the response was a quite blase Oh really, well I 'll be sure to tell the chef . Apart from that, the service was acceptable to good. The malbec ordered was a little rough but quite good. We ordered tap water which came in spring-top bottles; a rather nice touch. Would I go there again? Possibly for a burger but not if I want a good steak."

"this was booked a year ago by our family in the frame of a 50th high season jubilee gift, we overnight for Bed/Breakfast and dinner. we came a little early. 2.0pm, but we were told that our room was ready and we were booked immediately. from the moment when we went to the reception, the staff could not be more friendly and informative about our reservation and the facility that was available to us. the double room was large, clean and well prepared with everything we would need from a hotel this standards. after unpacking we decided to go to the cool drink in the bar again a very friendly smiling service from the barman. After we had a walk outside, the lands are well kept and the story about the origin of the anwesen were really interesting,We went to the restaurant for 7.0 pm and were courteously shown on our table, we ordered drinks and were shown the menu that had an extremely large selection, our waiter for the evening a young man named andrew, who had recently joined the staff in the restaurant excellent service. I can only describe the meal as excellent and well presented. the next morning we were shown on our table and offered drinks of our choice that were brought to us, the entire selection of food from the self-service breakfast was again excellent, we have no of the free time facilities available to us, i.e. pool, sauna etc. I can't comment on this. However, I am sure that we will return to the not distant future to offer us the friendly and very professional service of this hotel. many thanks to all employees for an unforgettable stay."

"First of all, my one positive thing to say about this restaurant is that the two waitresses were beyond lovely and very accommodating so this review does not fault their service. However, we came to the Dovedale hotel to celebrate my parents silver wedding anniversary as we have been before and the food has been to die for and the atmosphere has been great. Since we’ve been in the past, the restaurant has closed and reopened again, with none of its former chefs. This has meant the food went from being impeccable to being essentially frozen tasteless mush. The starters we ordered were boring, tasteless and obviously came from a cheap supermarket and were shoved onto a plate. The mackerel pate was just mackerel and mayonnaise in a pot and the “cheesy garlic bread” was 3 slices of frozen garlic bread with a slice of cheese on top, and this cost £5. Hoping our experience would improve, we ordered for our mains; scampi that was so dry and shrivelled up that it was pretty much just batter, overcooked peas (yes, even the peas weren’t cooked right), dry unseasoned chicken, overcooked salmon that resembled rubber, beef medallions that were not as described at all, they were 4 pieces of stewing steak in an ominous sauce, fish and chips that were obviously just frozen goujons, which was the biggest disappointment of the night because the location of the restaurant is home to some of the best fish in the UK. After this disaster of a meal we ended up sending 5/9 meals back and asked for the chef/manager, who was extremely rude and unhelpful, and when we listed our problems, he simply shrugged and said the “beef medallions” that were hard as rocks were actually beef fillet tails and offered no apology or solution to our other issues, and it was actually the waiting staff that were extremely apologetic and embarrassed and gave us some money back. We then waited for our desserts to see if this could redeem a diabolical meal, and were met with a tiny slice of frozen cheesecake that you may buy in Morrisons for about £2, and cake that was dry and cheap. Aside from the dismal food, the atmosphere was dead, nobody was in the restaurant as they probably got the memo, but unfortunately for us we didn’t. The decorations made the place look like an old junk shop with everything from Asian lanterns, African giraffe woodwork and sail boats cluttered around, with price tags hanging off everything, no doubt trying to squeeze a profit out of anything they could. Utterly disgusting and I suggest the management double the waitresses pay for what they have to deal with, will never be coming back and you’ve lost a loyal customer."

"Friday evening 19th October and we visited this restaurant for dinner. It is located in Mermaid Quay and overlooks Roald Dahl Plass and the Welsh Millennium Centre. We did not have a reservation, so luckily they were able to accommodate the seven of us. We were greeted at the door, warmly welcomed, and shown to our large circular table. We were presented with the menus, there was the a la carte menu as well as a set price two and three course menus and the drinks menu. This is an Italian, Spanish and Welsh flavour to the food served here. While we decided on what food to order we ordered some drinks from a friendly good humoured waiter. We finally decided on what to order which was a range of starters including garlic mushrooms, chicken liver pate and homemade soup. My starter, the soup, leek and potato was delicious. Home made Welsh faggots proved to be rather popular with a number of us ordering them. It was unfortunate that there were insufficient faggots for us all so a couple of us reselected the chicken breast. When our food was served it was delicious the chicken breast was succulent and tender and the faggots were very much appreciated. There is certainly a sense of the theatrical, dramatic and the zany about the decor here. From chandeliers, Greek statues, theatre curtains, unusual lights and other oddities, they all added to the atmosphere here. We really did enjoy our evening here, reasonably priced, quality delicious food, attentive and amusing staff and the over the top decor."
