"This is my second visit, the first was lovely and I gave four stars! This time just didn’t hit the mark. The tables were dirty and no one was cleaning them. That was my first impression, we found a table and ordered our food. It was freezing and draughty, one of our party closed the door. The bill was £57 for 4 bagels, 4 soft drinks and a portion of tater tots, this was discounted from last time with a voucher. I am not mean and will happily pay for quality to wasn’t too perturbed about this, thinking of my last visit. The tater tots were fine but that’s where it ended I’m afraid, my friends ate their bagels but said that they weren’t as impressed as last time. I actually thought mine was stale- it certainly didn’t appear as fresh as last time. I can’t comment on my friends’ food as they thought theirs acceptable! Mine however, was not. I chose one of the specials; Harissa chicken on a garlic bagel the chicken mixture was so cold it set my teeth on edge, I seemed like it had been frozen and defrosted it was so cold, I can’t confirm this, it may be that the fridge was on a very low setting? I couldn’t eat it though and left three quarters of it. I decided to order a hot chocolate to warm me up, I was actually shivering at this point! The hot chocolate was quite disgusting, Luke warm, I’m not convinced there was any chocolate in it, the taste was so insipid and bland. I did return this and was told that they could ‘maybe give me a refund on the hot chocolate’ I decided not to bother and just cut my losses and leave. I won’t be returning, there are so many good places to eat around this area that I don’t need to come back here. What a disappointment . I wondered if, in opening another branch, they have spread themselves too thin"

"This is a review of the new Gunpowder in the One Tower Bridge development that doesn't have it's own entry in Zomato yet. It's a handsome place but acoustics are lousy when it is crowded. The food is good but be warned that portion sizes are dainty relative to rather high prices. I love that they seem to focus on the lighter, brighter side of Indian cooking instead of the stodgy fatty things available in a typical curry house. We started with aloo chat which is a really fresh and bright dish I like. Boiled spiced potato and cauliflower, tart yoghurt, sweet tamarind sauce, fresh notes of raw coriander and raw red onion and micro herbs, garnished with a little deep fried lotus root. Well balanced and tasty. Peanut and flattened chickpea chaat was great too. Skin on peanuts, spring onion, coriander, cucumber and chickpeas that had indeed been pounded flat and roasted. Kashmiri grilled lamb chops were divine and came with a punchy coriander chutney. Very tender, served medium rare, with a flavourful spice rub. It came with some strands of pickled cabbage where the acidity was a nice foil for the fatty meat. Patara maach was fish steamed in banana leaf on the grill served with some spiced pickled cauliflower. Fish was tender and rubbed with a nice emongrassy paste. The only dish we ordered I didn't care for were the okra fries. I like bhindi when the okra's are halved lengthwise and dredged in chickpea flour before deep frying. However, these had been cut into very thin julienne slivers and then tossed in the chickpea flour. Though the frying technique was perfect (crisp, with no greasy texture) slicing the okraso finely resulted in a heavy dish. We attended the reduced price soft launch. At full price with a bottle house wine, dinner for two would have been £70 including service. Expensive for Indian, but worth it because it was refined and elevated."

"I don 't typically like to leave bad reviews as I understand the impact it can have on a business, but I feel so strongly about this situation that I feel it is necessary. I visited The William Foster in Lincoln and had the most awful experience. The manager in that pub is awful for trying to accommodate simple requests. The organisation within this company is atrocious, and I have still yet to hear back from them regarding my complaint. I had emailed the pub and asked for my complaint to be passed to higher management (since the person I had a bad experience with was the responsible manager at the time) and I had a reply from said person. Granted, he apologised, but the issues on the day were just not dealt with efficiently. In short, I had booked a table for our family (13 people) on a Saturday afternoon. I had messaged prior to ask for a baby high chair as we, of course, had a baby with us. When we arrived, we were told by the manager that we were going to be seated on high stools. I explained that I had requested a high chair for a baby and hence that would not be appropriate. He then said 'well that 's where you 're sat '. I spoke to him separately after he 'd accused us of not communicating that we needed a high chair, and so I proved that I had by showing him evidence. He still didn 't accommodate. We ended up sat in the sports area, with a leaking roof, not enough stools (which we did get in the end, just planted in the middle of the floor) and a mother having to stand up to feed her baby on her dad 's knee. They couldn 't even cook a medium-rare steak right and they were all overdone. Appalling. I will never, ever be returning, nor will I ever recommend to anyone."

"Saw the reviews and as the cafe was only a few minutes from where we were staying we decided to check it out for breakfast. It’s a small cafe but there is a real buzz. On our first visit they were super busy but quickly cleared a table for us that had the remains of a large party of builders breakfast on it, and while we were there lots of regulars came in which we took as a good sign. The large window table looked to be the local men’s meeting place on a Friday morning and there were some already tucking into their food who were soon joined by others who were greeted as old friends by the staff. Our order was quickly taken and individual needs accommodated with my friend asking for oat milk in her hot chocolate. Food was delicious with generous portions, I had scrambled egg on toast, and my friend the porridge which came with a dish of sliced bananas and extra warm milk if needed. Both were well cooked and presented I got to sample the porridge as my friend couldn’t eat it all). Lovely place to eat. We decided to stop again before our train home and while it was quieter on the Sunday morning it was still full, and again service was swift and friendly, they remembered my friend wanted oat milk without needing to be asked. Everyone who worked there took the time to speak to us and I would definitely visit again, if I lived in Edinburgh I’d be there every day! Prices are good and reflect the quality of the food as well as the excellent service. Treated like we were friends not just anonymous tourists. Thank you!"
