"This place is run by an old couple. The inside was ok. The food we ordered was pork broth(ainigang), adobo squid (which taste nice)and laing veg. The laing taste bitter and was not shredded properly(as far as I know how it should be cook and how I tasted it from Filipino gatherings). There was big leaves portion when I scooped it and it was bitter, I don 't understand why. That was not the taste I have expected. Also the old man serving when he took our orders, he didn 't say that every rice and dish ordered is good for two people to consume, so we ended up having huge bowls of broth, plate of squid, laing veg and rice that we wanted to finish as much as we can in order not to waste. The rice cake(bibingka) which I was hoping a home made one was not(I don 't know why I expected so much). It was like one of those rice cakes portioned and wrapped that are sold in Filipino stores and doesn 't taste biko bibibgka at all so with the maja blanca. It was like another cornstarch biko and brown. For three people with two desserts and two juices we paid £79 quid. We have to ask the old man to see the menu prices again bcoz he gave us a HAND WRITTEN RECEIPT stating just the total amount that we should pay. I think he was starting to get annoyed with us and offended coz he was handing us a card where we can visit their website and see how much they price their food. In my head, if they can produce a calling card for their website, how come they can 't provide an itemised receipt nowadays that you usually get in any restaurants. Overall, I feel like that was a rip off. Especially when he was saying, the business has been bad since covid bcoz they get some bookings and then get cancelled and they can only serve until 10pm."

"This was my first visit to The Fighting Cocks, although my wife and local ladies eat there regularly, also my friends. To begin with the decor and ambeience was excellent and l looked forward to my meal. The waitress recommeded an ale to me which was very good and we selected our meals from the menue. The starter was superb and as good as most restaurants around us, but this is where my experience ended, as the duck l ordrered was teribble and so tough. l tried cutting it to small pieces, but this was very difficult with a blunt knife and tough meat and eventually put a piece in my mouth and tried to chew it. After masticating it for some time l swallowed, but it stuck in my throat and would not go down despite drinking some beer. Being in some discomfort l was eventually forced to go to the gents and try to regurgititate it in order to remove or swallow it, all of which was an unpleasant experience. Eventually after several attempts it finally went down and l was able to return to our table, but no longer wanted to consume any more and we paid the bill and left. l have had problems with tough meet before and should probably not have ordered duck, which is often very chewable. l have to accept part of the blame as l am not a big meat eater and your staff and restaurant is very nice. This has obviously coulored my judgement somewhat, however it would not put me off revisiting The Fighting Cocks or recommending it to other sand my wife will continue to enjoy meals there. My wife and l eat out a great deal, mostly top class restaurants (Rules in London, The Coach House at Ruxley, Dua Mici Chistelhurst, Giacomo 's Weald, Bartella 's Meopham, Harrods and others so appreciate good food, so am happy to put this down to an unfortunate experience with duck, which has to be cooked well to be tender. Please accept this as fair critcicsm with no wish to cause you trouble. Regards. Brian Edwards."
